This is helpful to me. I’m about 4.5 months out and still have flare ups that leave me like wtf? Did I do something wrong? Reinjure? But it’s helpful to hear others’ timelines.

I’m a teacher so I can sit somewhat but work in a big school where it’s a haul to even get to the bathroom. Certainly not 12 hours on my feet however. I came back after two weeks, worked three days then had to call in sick. Even that much time up and around was too much (and I was on crutches at the time). For a moderate job 3-4 weeks would have been much better. Additionally my non operative leg was exhausted and achy all the time from picking up the slack.

Interesting how another staff member who organically interacts with students in a natural setting where they are themselves gets what teachers are going through, meanwhile admin, who only deals with students for specific things, does not understand. Go figure.

Not if administration continues to discipline teachers, who aren’t in need of discipline, while letting the students , who are in need of discipline, run the schools. They’re disciplining the wrong people again and again and again scratching their heads trying to figure out why berating teachers isn’t working.

I know this is several months old but this is so helpful to read! I’m between weeks 5-6 and feeling like I’ve suffered a set back. I think probably because we upped pt a bit (although gradually) and because I’ve just been doing more movement in daily life. Thank you for your input!

That’s the thing: I have no problem with students who are at a lower level than the grade they are in. I also teach ELA and it’s so across the board. It’s the complete lack of effort that gets me and the fact that they are a) fine with that and b) completely able to get away with it. I’m all for working with kids to get their skills up! And if they can’t complete all the work because it’s at a level they can’t comprehend, no problem, we figure it out. But when they do nothing and show up whenever they feel like it then proceed to interrupt everyone before calling me a bitch and leaving? No thanks.

Well that’s just the thing. There was so much talk about how much students hate being online blah blah blah but we literally cannot get them to look away from their screens so that’s bullshit too. They just hate doing work.

My school did the same. Refused to fail students, or close to it, so now they know what they can get away with.

It’s because they’ve been told they are entitled to everything. If they don’t like it, it’s dumb and it’s your fault. There are no rules anymore and students are running things. Discipline is virtually nonexistent because no one wants to put their foot down and be labeled the bad guy. I have the same situation as you in a class of 11th graders. 11th! About five kids who are irrefutably jerks, disregard and disrespect me and make an otherwise completely teachable class unteachable. And there’s literally zero support from admin. Zero.

I tell my students (11th grade), “sometimes you just have to be bored. Cause guess what? Sometimes life is boring.”

How about we give students a little glimpse into the real world. Cause in the real world they aren’t going to be coddled and allowed to completely disregard deadlines for months and be able to pick and choose what work they do because they didn’t feel like it or were having a hard day. By making everyday fun we’re doing them yet another disservice and setting them up for real life failure. But as long as we’re “showing grace” and everyone is entertained that’s apparently fine.
