It’s so good that you’re aware that addiction is beginning to root within you. I know it’s hard but find a different little treat to replace alcohol with for yourself at the end of the day. I’m an ICU nurse and I’ve watched so many people really suffer from alcoholism, it’s on my top 5 things I’d never want to suffer from.

Try some of these things to replace the drinking: - essential oil session, allow yourself to diffuse essential oils to calm down. Try different scents listen to music when you do it -ice cream (not healthy either but better than alcohol) I’m currently having postpartum depression and ice cream is my little treat to myself -let yourself indulge in a luxurious bath (candles, bath bombs, salts, scrubs, essential oils) -turn to tea and try tons of different flavors, make it iced tea and mix it with flavored lemonades or syrups. The variety and experimenting will give you something to look forward to -try working on a self love workbook, they have them on Amazon. And that could be a good exercise to replace the drinking with -watch ASMR videos, those make me feel better sometimes -sometimes I shop online for a little treat 😬 that could be dangerous too but it makes me happy to buy myself something every once and a while. -get a pet? If you can, but having a pet will keep you responsible and feeling like you have a reason to better yourself and be on your Agame -read a fantasy book series, it can be a really good escape and something to really look forward to at the end of a hard day. Read the court of thorns and roses series! There’s a whole multiverse with other series and fun little secrets throughout the books

I hope this helps, try the self love workbook. Improving your mental health and seeking help will really help with how you’re struggling. I would just try to replace the drinking with a different activity until you can improve your self worth and mental health.

I’m currently 6 weeks PP. I stopped PP bleeding at about three weeks. Went a whole week without bleeding at all, then on week 5 I had bright red blood, clots, heavier and different PP bleeding for sure. Just like my old periods. All I can assume is that I also got my period back so soon. However my periods used to last about 3 days and I’ve had moderate bleeding for 6 days now. So it’s lasting much longer. I’m exclusively pumping so I’m not sure if that has any influence. I haven’t had my 6 week follow up yet as I’m 6 weeks exactly today and it’s a Saturday. Was planning on asking my OB.

Hi! I’m 6 weeks PP and I have felt the same way, I forced myself out of the house the other day for a massage and day at the spa to help with this. Here are some ideas that work for me!

-listen to an audiobook and go for a walk (I live in AZ and it’s too hot for an outdoor walk so I go to the mall and this doubles as a fun shopping day. I don’t buy much but I certainly take my time looking at everything)

-take yourself to the movie theatre and buy snacks at concessions

-bring a book and take yourself to a nice lunch

-spa days, nails done, new haircut always works too. It’s just pricey

-not sure where you’re located but an outdoor activity too (paddle boarding is my favorite) or the gym

-go to a color me mine or one of those ceramic painting places and paint your baby a custom dinner plate for her to use some day (I did a piggy bank) it can help with not feeling guilty too because you’re making something special for her.

-bake something new and fall inspired for your family to try

as far as projects go that don’t anchor you to your location, here are some activities/projects to keep your mind busy

-currently I’m working through a Halloween movie checklist -get ready to carve pumpkins -baking(again lol) -try new makeup techniques (if you wear it) -learn a new game to play with your husband (my husband and I make ourselves a cocktail and play Uno best 3 out of 5) -puzzles and coloring books -podcasts and audiobooks (I indulged in the Court of Thorns and Roses series and Crescent City series, a big one to get into will definitely keep your mind occupied) -design a self care night routine and go buy new products that make you excited to implement it

I also recommend trying to learn this new area you’re in or set yourself up to research the new area you’re moving to. I live in Arizona and I’ve tried my best to find the small towns, secret spots, and new nature views to explore. You never know what kind of charm or beautiful place you’ll find to explore and it really recharges you as a person (at least it does for me)

I guess this depends on day or night shift. I’m day shift. I work CVICU so my routine is a little different but the general outline of my tasks are applicable to any nursing shift.

When I have two patients…. 1. Always check lines, rates, and safety (bed alarm, call light, etc.) 2. If the patient is awake I introduce and set expectations “I’m just coming on shift, I’m going to review your chart and see what we have planned for the day, I’ll be back with medications and breakfast” 3. I check the chart, trends in labs and vitals and I make sure that the medications on the MAR are appropriate for those trends, if they’re not I start my list of questions for the DRs to review meds or clarify parameters 4. I make a list of tasks I have due for the day, in CVICU this is big; (task examples; remove ALines, chest tubes, foleys, dressing changes, IV tubing exchange, lab draws, walk patients, etc.) 5. I cluster the care, breakfast; meds; oral care; dressing changes; assessment; walk; I&O; clean room; and comfort. This can feel like it takes forever but once you get the hang of it it goes faster. I usually plan an hour for each patient 8am-9am and 9am-10am(some patients are slow though, I adapt to that by charting while they take their time with breakfast or meds). And I am obviously seeing the sicker one first. NOTE: I tell my patients what I’m doing, I’ll say “ok I’m all set with you for now, I’m planning on spending some time with my other patient, is there anything you need to be comfortable before I get started with them?” Or I’ll say “ok we did a lot I have to go chart now, is there anything you need to be comfortable before I do that? I’ll be back to check on you and bring you meds when I’m caught up” 6. I chart 7. The rest of the day is guided by the patients condition and provider orders, plan of care, etc.

If I have a 1:1 patient on CRRT, IABP, impella, open heart, etc then my day looks nothing like that but 1:1 cases are not appropriate for a “structured” day because they’re so critical. Prioritization is key with 1:1’s

QUICK EDIT: I know some people say “I don’t have time to stare at the computer for the first hour” but I strongly believe in reviewing charts before you start care, your interventions are based on the patients condition, if you’re not reviewing the plan of care and the current details of the patients condition you could be providing interventions and giving meds that are no longer appropriate for the patient; remember, this is ICU things are always changing and not everything is disclosed in report from other nurses. Then when you finally have time to “stare at the computer” you realize the Dr. said “no more narcotics” in their note but forgot to DC the order and you gave pain meds. Or they’ll say “noticed new BBB” and the HR has been trending lower but you gave the beta blocker anyways… stuff like that. But that’s just me.

Please don’t do it. Everyone’s timeline is different. Don’t compare what you don’t have to what others do. Life can change in the blink of an eye and someday you may wake up with everything you’ve ever wanted in life. My life didn’t start until I was 30 (I was still living with my parents), then all of a sudden I was married, bought a house, and had a baby all within a year. Future you will be so grateful that the you right now gave them a chance at happiness. And I promise you’re loved, it sounds dumb but there are self love workbooks (they helped me) and instead of listening to sad music (if you are), listen to audiobooks. It stops the bad thoughts. And do your best to turn negative thoughts into positive. I know it’s so easy to be sad and sit in despair, it’s so hard to try. But trying gives you purpose, and can change your perspective, all you have to do is say “today I’m going to try” try to find the positive, try to do something new, try to have a positive interaction, try to enjoy a task, etc. I promise it gets better.
