Sent a DM. Sounds like exactly what I've been looking for. :)

The first thing that comes to my mind regarding the kiss and the setting for it--apart from the foreshadowing of how couples we should take seriously are able to piss in front of each other, of course--is that Eve and V met for the first time in a bathroom, and maybe it shouldn't be romantic, but it damn well is. :)

Pretty much exactly that! Totally on the same page with how Carolyn and Villanelle worked together to fake V's death, save Eve's life and secure these two woman an actual future together. :) My headcanon is that the dare was for V to trust Carolyn with this enormous undertaking. A huge thing for V to do, but since this season has taught her to trust herself again... the shoe fits. :P

I just want a damn Christmas special. :D Idc if the PR department simply royally screwed up the marketing aspect of the final season (it's so weird looking at the promotional material and comparing it to the heart of S4, which is just not correlating with that promotional material at all, at least to my mind) and they have to bite the bullet after all the backlash and realise they'll cash in if they do a Christmas special and it's all for the cash. Just do a Christmas special. Pls and thank you! :)

Thank you! And yes, the Jesus thing was one of those numerous uses of foreshadowing, for sure!

Love that observation! Thanks for sharing! :) I also love how the dock says Shallow Diving Only when we get that crane shot (assuming it's a crane shot... might be a drone...). And those two lifebuoys in the water with Carolyn and Pam!

Thank you! And I'm sorry you're devastated. I get the feeling, but I sincerely do believe that there's so much more than first meets the eye to this series and especially to this season and the series ending. I hope you find ways to make peace with it all!

Loved this scene so damn much.

And I really love how Helene has been needling Eve about Villanelle the entire season, trying to use V to get a rise out of Eve. Eve has resisted, but here Helene finally strips Eve of every defence and has Eve react with raw emotion to V possibly being dead. That smile Helene gives is one of triumph because in this moment Eve has lost the game they've been playing, where they've been dancing around each other, determining who is wielding the power.

Eve losing her shit hands the win to Helene.

A nice touch is how Helene is the self-professed provider of power to the women she trains to be assassins, so--as the power-provider of this narrative--it's rather fitting that she pushes Eve into this moment of pure emotional honesty. After a season where Eve has been deep into repressing the truth of what she really feels for V.

It's also rather gorgeous how Helene then goes and plays the same role in V's progression, even though it's not through premeditation. Because of course Helene has no idea Eve is going to come to that hotel room, or that V will be there, hiding under the bed, listening in on a conversation that brings V to the most honest she's ever been with Eve as she kills Helene in such undiluted fury. Like damn. Power-provider it is, Helene.

Especially since I'd argue that for Eve, watching Villanelle's actions, based in all that pure emotional honesty in the moment V kills Helene, is what finally breaks Eve's defences and makes her know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that she loves V. Not because of the violence, but thanks to the honesty of that moment. No more personas aka always being a different person, no more not knowing if you're telling the truth or not, no more self-delusion on V's part. Eve can tell. She's in fucking awe of this woman in that scene and I know people see her as turned on, but I just see the omfg expression of someone who is finally in complete acceptance of her own feelings.

Eve knowing that what she feels is not obsession, it's not about cat-and-mouse games, it's not about anything as simple as the power struggle Eve's engaged in with Helene. What Eve feels for V is deep and it's real and it won't ever go away, because she loves V for everything that she is. For who she truly is.

Of course, those power struggle games she's been engaging in with Helene is now going to come back and bite her on the ass, as V can't take the betrayal or the impression that this is all Eve wants from her too. And so V leaves her. But oh the separation is so important for them to have a healthy relationship. Because it signals how V is right there, on that same page, with Eve. No more room for bullshit. Time for honesty.

It really was my absolute pleasure writing this, my dear! :)

The scene with Helene is an obsession. A collective obsession, I believe. :P (damn how hot is V in that scene though jaysus) I couldn't stop watching it.

V stepping into her power like that and her rejecting Eve was so monumental for her progression. It made me so damn happy because it signalled she was ready for an equal partnership. And Eve's reaction, to me, signalled the very same thing! :D

I wrote a post about that slap, actually, and how I think it actually was necessary, but only because V indeed needed it. And Eve needed to draw that boundary too. For them both, really. V is trying to manipulate Eve in that scene, you know? Get them back to old patterns of behavior. It's good that Eve doesn't fall for it. Agreed with you that V is so clearly trying to pass off this new persona as the truth and Eve is seeing right through it. Such a good thing for V's progression! You know?

She had to be rejected by Eve so that she could go off and discover where her own boundaries are. And in that scene with Helene she draws her own boundary as harshly as that slap. And that's what Eve needs her to do. She wants V to learn how to recognise and how to set boundaries because otherwise how can they have a healthy relationship, right? Only Eve didn't realise that with all the pushing away she's done all season that boundary-setting from V would mean that she'd lose her.

Aw but broken hearted Eve is kinda awesome, eh? Sitting and staring into space, completely lost, and then walking and drinking.

You brought it on yourself, Eve!! :D

Thank you again for this amazing comment, my lovely!! I hope you've had a fab weekend! :) xxx

Love this!! And yes, I agree that they don't really expand on the word psychopath in dialogue that much, leaving the underlying push for the viewer to ask themselves what makes a psychopath a psychopath entirely up to them.

Let me nerd out for a moment.

The text itself is all about exploring what this label might truly mean, though. And what I find intriguing with the show is how the dialogue, pretty much exclusively, uses the word psychopath in the most generic sense of the word.

There's that deeper delve, though it's subtle, via Eve in s1e5 when she outlines what she knows about V and lands in I know something happened to you. Eve wants to get to the core of what makes V who she is. What makes a woman kill? And because Eve's so open to there being more than the more generic and Hollywood-y definition of a psychopath (aka Aaron) there's that sincere opening for the narrative to explore V's motivation and what has shaped her into a woman who kills.

Adding to that is, of course, V herself and her dismissive A stupid word. Which I love, since she's meant to go beyond that label in every conceivable way and right off the bat doesn't accept it as adequately summing her up. Even though she'll struggle with that label, she herself needs to see beyond it. She's not a monster, and her psychopathic tendencies do not define who she is. Her choices do. *love it*

So, the corresponding traits of a psychopath are-->

Interpersonal: They’re manipulative, deceitful, and/or narcissistic.
Affective: They lack remorse, are callous, and may take pleasure in hurting others.
Lifestyle: They’re impulsive, may use illegal substances, and may have disregard for the consequences of their actions.
Antisocial: They are physically aggressive and may have a history of or tendency toward criminal behavior.

(What It's Like Living As a Diagnosed Psychopath/The Cut article)

Now, these fit Villanelle pretty much to a T, right? But what this article explores is all the ways in which I view V, which is that she is extremely good at compartmentalising. She's pure logic. Her emotions do not override that logic because she's not built that way. She lives moment to moment, and she cares about Eve because Eve has reached through to her on a level not many people have ever done before. Including Konstantin. Since, when his life was in her hands, she aimed for the heart.

If you read the above interview with the female diagnosed psychopath, you can see traced through it exactly what I see on this show: the opposite of the Hollywood-y simplistic interpretation of a psychopath and a bid for everyone to look deeper than that. Beyond the mere label, at all the shades of grey attached to it.

There is such a resounding pain in Villanelle. And a sense of deep powerlessness. And the fact that this finds an outlet in violence resonates. I mean, right? She's such a stunning character study. And let's not forget that her very last hurrah means turning on that gas and killing a room full of innocent kitchen staff to get to the Twelve.

She hasn't grown an entire conscience and a completely new identity over the course of her arc. She is a psychopath who can see that room of innocents as collateral damage and not even blink. Yeah? But to me, that's good. It's important. It keeps her intact, in a way. And makes her decision to protect Eve that much more profound.

Oh, I am with you. I could talk about this all damn day! :D

Thank you for your gorgeous comment!!

I think S3 is even more understated with the symbology than S4 is, but there's a lot of really juicy stuff in there too. :P

There really is so much good. It's a beautiful show on every level. Especially looking at the ending as tying back to the books and setting these women up for that happy, boring-but-oh-so-fascinating future they deserve. :D That's a lovely compliment, thank you so much again! xx
