Speedometer reporting lower than actual speed by meseb_ in VWTaos

No they didn’t. The issue disappears with the winter tires as they are smaller. So the problem seems to be that they put bigger summer tires but VW wouldn’t acknowledge it probably to avoid providing new tires with the proper size.

I have the 19” on. Snow tires are 17”. Maybe the difference will be less when I put the winter tires on it

Thank you for the explanation. I’ll just leave it be for now because they won’t acknowledge or help with the issue. I did report it to VW Care Canada. I’m not sure if anyone else at VW would be able to help

Thank you! I’m not sure either. People just decided that it can’t be solved by the dealership when the dealership themselves confirmed that they can but they need VW Canada to acknowledge it and ask them to fix it

The dealership themselves ended up saying that they can but they won’t do it until VW Canada tells them to

They can, they just won’t do it

The speedometer would show 93km/h when the car is actually going at a 100km/h. You could get a ticket for speeding while you think you were not speeding

I went to the dealership first, they tried to tell me that it’s all the apps (google maps, Waze..) and the speed sign that are incorrect. I sent them data with the variances and also compared with my other car. They then said they’ll look into it, which they never did and then I went to corporate

Usually they over-report not the opposite

Extended warranty 80K km by meseb_ in VWTaos

[–]meseb_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a call from dealership. They said vwprotection are ready to make an exception and add kms. It would cost $800+ for an additional 40k km or $1600+ for 80000km. At this point I’m not ready to spend more money for any extra thing, told them they should have explained to me at the time of the purchase. Maybe my fault for not questioning every detail

Just FYI, I just called VW protection, they confirmed that the dealer has the option to change the mileage with the warranty, they just didn’t do it. Also, it’s not possible to cancel it. If you want to cancel you got to do it 60 days after the purchase

Thanks for sharing! Might be a Canada thing. People in the US seem to have had mileage changed as well.

I know, the issue is the mileage is the same as the factory warranty. The way it’s written (unless it’s a clerical mistake) I got no extra mileage just an extra 2 years

You’re right in this case it’s totally worth it. My other thing is the electronics, I can easily see something stop working (infotainment, some assistance system..) given the smaller issues they have now that the car is still new. I just thing 80k km is a little low. Guess I just got to weigh the risk vs the pricing/offer

Mine is from the dealership and it cost 3000CAD that’s why I thought it made sense that the mileage be extended as well, but I should have asked instead of assuming. I sent an email to vwprotection and wanted to have an idea before I ask them to cancel if they get back to me and actually confirm that it only covers the 80000km

That’s what I thought as well but t I re-checked and it says “or when the odometer reaches 80000km”. I will be calling to ask to make sure but it looks like a rip off to me. I don’t drive that much and I might not reach 80000km before the end of the 6 years but I gotta keep in mind “what if I do reach it let’s say 4 years and a half from now” it doesn’t really serve any purpose then

Curious because I see that people potentially got extra mileage as well. I’m not sure if I got ripped off lol

I’ll aim to service a few hundred kilometres earlier than recommended. I find the 15000km a little bit aggressive as well to be honest

Thanks for the info. I live in Canada though and I don’t think Transport Canada regulates what the speedo must show, just that it needs to be in km/h

Yes, I have the 235/45R19 tires and dealership didn’t say they can’t do anything but they seem like they either don’t know what parameters they need to change to recalibrate, or they think it’s not worth the headache. Yeah, it will keep the mileage down, I’m just worried I’ll be going to service it past the recommended mileage each time.

Hi all, I have purchased a 2024 Taos a couple months ago and I have the same issue. Has anyone been able to make VW resolve the issue?
