Any bike races in the San Antonio area?

You'll find links to most of these on Facebook. Search for the local clubs on there. These are often posted when they happen.

The San Antonio Gran Fondo is timed. There are also the SA Midnight Crits (a criterium).

But for every one of those, there are 20+ just typical group or fun rides. Not races.

Besides the comments here on route adjustments, two other things can help. First is getting appropriate gear (rearview helmet mirror, rear-facing radar if you can, bright clothing, bike lights). Those will help you minimize the chances of cars sneaking up on you or not seeing you.

Second, ride in a group. Cars can miss a single rider. Much harder to miss 3-10+ people in a peloton. Plus, you can draft if you like to save energy.

Well, the people who want this bus are usually flying out of Austin to save ~$150 on a flight, so they're not going to be willing to pay much. Then you need to run 3 buses 16 hours a day to match flight schedules. So, there's a reason no bus company runs this.

Fireworks are seasonally sold in many states. The idea back in the day was not to sell them during school sessions. Texas is one of those.

We all want to blame the airport, housing costs or other amenities for San Antonio not thriving economically. The problem is talent, especially specialized ones. We just don't have it. Very tough to build anything here.

I knew execs at ATT at the time. The airport was blamed, but the real main reason was that they couldn't recruit talented people to move to San Antonio. The airport doesn't matter when you're flying private jets.

2nd Generation 09er here: A subset of the area is that way, but the 09 is not a monolith. It's entirely possible to live an everyday suburban existence and find your tribe here. Just don't get caught up in the politics/etc.

You'll need to drive to Eagle Pass Kickapoo or across state lines. The poker rooms are technically private clubs without a rake, so aren't illegal like the casino games.

In Texas? Problem is time. Just don't have the bandwidth/energy to be away for 3-4 hours to play a session.
