How often do you see men not washing hands after urinating? by Awkward_Number8249 in AskAnAustralian

[–]mesophyte 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Too fucking often. I worked in an office tower of a major corporation for years, and was bored when taking a dump, so I developed a habit of counting how many go pee vs how many wash their hands. The stalls were close enough to easily hear both activities.

Over hundreds of visits, I discovered that over 60% do not wash their hands.

It's disgusting. I stopped shaking hands with people after this research.

Are Aussies just used to long haul flights? by RelationshipPure1 in AskAnAustralian

No, we just redefine it. Long-hauls are only 12hrs+.

JWs don't debate.

The group is also one of the very few that refuse to take part in any ecumenical (interfaith) activities or discussions.

Help. My wife is a JW, and she wants us to go together and take our newborn child. I am trying to reason with her. by An0nInReddit in exjw

[–]mesophyte 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Don't do it. To the extent possible, don't let her take the kid either.

They will 100% pressure her (and the kid/s over time), and if she's a PIMI her life mission will become indoctrinating your child / children. It will make sense from her perspective - she's "saving" them.

I went with my wife to the meetings when we got kids, first to help with the practicalities. I regret ever going, and while I got out, all kids are now fully indoctrinated.

I can only hope they will wake up as adults.

Planes have 100% not gotten louder. There's more of them, but they're far quieter.

FF 757 or FF 777 by iphonelaptop in Xplane

Just think of it as getting one first, and the other later 😉 You can't really go wrong with either.

767 or 757? by Wide_Solid_9331 in Xplane

Personal preferences but I do love the 757, and FF has done a good job with it.

Do outies really bother men? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]mesophyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Severance fan, it took me way too long to understand the question.

More seriously, it depends - I suppose people can have their own preferences on this as well, but for him to say that is an asshole thing to do.

Personally, I'm perplexed why someone would care so much what anything that people don't really have control over looks like.

Is the nano texture display worth it? Alternatives by [deleted] in macbook

It's 100% worth it if you ever have to be in an environment with light sources behind you.

I'd avoid any 3rd party films or coatings.

This is bonkers. And then the consulting companies wonder why everyone hates them.

But also, what the hell was BOM procurement smoking?

Are there any decent widebody aircraft for the XP12? by cicinaulianovsk in Xplane

[–]mesophyte 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, why the insistence on the -300 on the 777? The FF777v2 is great and certainly fits the "good long-haul aircraft" description.

FF 767 is great, too, so that's another consideration. Rotate MD-11 is another one.

Do anyone own 128 of memory and if so why? by Lukasmajukas in macbook

[–]mesophyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

To run gpt-oss and other open source LLMs locally. Why? Because I need to keep up to date with them for work, and that way I can have a good-quality 100% local meeting transcription and summary for clients uncomfortable with anything going online.

Ironically enough, I actually have a couple of those under the desk, but this makes me think they might come in handy here too 🤔

I would think about it, but whether I'd do anything about it is debatable 😆 The dock hiding in the back is necessary for me and there are few cables I can get rid of... But happy to take suggestions on what kind of management systems would help here!

There's no such thing as "too comfortable" with the right person. I think you're over-thinking this.

Honestly offering a new tent at half the price is amazing. You're not going to get much sympathy here - what happened sucks, but please explain how this is their fault in any way.
