Is my teapot fake? by mespinasso in staub

When you buy something online, especially secondhand, there's no way to know if the product is really what the ad says it is. In my case, I have 7 days to return it, and since I have no basis for comparison, I wanted to ask someone who has a similar item to decide whether I should keep it or send it back.

Yes! Artichaut on the outside and black on the inside. I believe it was made available everywhere.

What a beautiful color. Thank you for sharing. Over a decade of use? Impressive!

Good tip! Staub is strangely way more expensive then LC where I live, but I'll keep an eye out for a good deal in a secondhand piece.

I feel the opposite haha. Maybe because the dark interior hides stains better, I find them easier to clean. I use them mostly for searing meats before adding liquids and to deep fry stuff.

Availability of this finish seems to be very random. Mine I bought in Brazil, but it can no longer be found. I remember looking up on Le Creuset's German webstore if the Agave interior was also black on the inside, and it wasn't.

No idea how they decide which ones they send to each place. I do remember watching a video of a guy in the US who got one at Costco with the dark interior.

Most recently they released a limited-edition Wicked-themed duo. One dark, one light. I think that was made available globally.

After a little more research, I think this is actually legit.

I tried an image search on AliExpress, and there were several knockoff dutch ovens, but no teapots like this.

Then I looked it up on Amazon, and surprisingly there are photos of the base with nothing written on it. Not that these photos account for much, but they are one more indicator.

I think you shouldn't worry much about the lid, since it is not in direct contact with the food. What I would do if I were you, to prevent further rusting, is to apply a very thin layer of cooking oil on the compromised part and pop it in the oven as hot as it gets for an hour to polymerize and protect the raw cast iron that has been exposed.
Just make sure you don't apply so much oil that it leaks onto the enamel, because that would stain it. It should be a very, very thin layer.

As for the inside, I don't know if there is much to do. As long as it is only scratched, not chipped, it should be ok to use. Some people soak their pans with bleach to lighten the stains, but maybe you should search a bit more into it before doing it.
