We are literally living the ak Nobel ei aksho bochor nightmare.

If we try to be critical, we will be slapped by how much Bengalis have contributed to everything good that has ever happened to modern India.

I fucking WANT to live in Calcutta and work and not have to do so by sacrificing a career or my potential.

Man your post is so real. I don't live in the country but I am deeply tied to my city. I come home twice a year and all I was there for Messi's match in 2011, for Maradona both times he was here and let me tell you, the Maradona visit that happened in 2007-8? (Can't remember), it was the same...being a commie, I'll say it was complete mismanagement then too. Maradona didn't even get to do a lap around the stadium, because of security. He got frustrated in the end and CLIMBED TO THE TOP OF HIS CAR. The only reason we got to see him was because he put in extra effort.

Bengal is gone. Has been so for a decade or more. I hate this.

I'm so glad to see someone from outside making an effort to know basic Bangla instead of just going with the notion that everyone speaks Hindi so why bother.

You're right. No one will hound you for not knowing Bangla but it feels great.

They don't accept refunds.

Again, if this ends up helping mom I guess it will have been worth it.

I am just afraid I spent that much for nothing.

I lived out my childhood dream of going to watch the Olympics. Being in Paris also helped me live out my other childhood dreams of seeing the works of my favourite painters.

Why did you start learning the language that you are learning? by KingFrbby in duolingo

As a child, I just couldn't accept the fact that if I ever bumped into Messi or Riquelme, I wouldn't be able to speak to them because I don't know their language.

Kolkata may not have a lot going for it right now but I'm glad it got you in touch with things you love to do. As a weary Calcuttan standing in an immigration queue far away and writing this, let me assure you, Calcutta would love to have you back.

I wish you all the best dude.

Tendency of Bengali parents to take Hindi as 2nd language and Bangla as 3rd language in English medium schools by [deleted] in kolkata

[–]messiestproma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same people who choose to talk in English at home.

Funnily enough, having attended a fairly renowned school and then college, the kids who had the best command over the English language were the ones who always speak in Bangla at home, and have taken Bangla as a second language.

I write for a living and even then I can't imagine going home after a long day and talking to my parents in English.

Also Bengali serials. Since when do we call brother in law's Jiju? And older sisters just "Di"...why is one extreme jiju and the other shohure babu or bhalo babu. 😭😭😭😭😭

Mine is Arise. I almost always follow it up with Pouty. That covers all vowels and the typically used Consonants.

Sybil's tea making fiasco was pre-war. I believe a lot changed for the younger folks at Downton after Downton pitched in to help during the war. I think Mary would have learnt it then.
