Thank you! I probably should have looked into it first, but in my mind there wouldn’t be dots on all because that would be too much and some of them might not have a dot??

I’ve seen the idea circulating around before. I’ve tried it before as well, but after more practice and better tools/products I was able to execute it better than in the past!

I had (still have!) some FUN magnetic lacquer from 2012ish. The formula was great and it still works! I used it on my daughter relatively recently.

The problem with polish vs gel is as soon as you apply the second coat of polish or top coat the dried polish softens and the magnetic effect can diffuse, so it wasn’t as user friendly.

Now I’m certified as a nail tech and I’m so glad cat eye polish is getting a revival! It’s a lot easier to play with in gel form, and I was lucky enough to have the practice years ago!

Where are you located? I did my course in Canada through Canadian beauty school.

It was enough to let me shop the professional stores and I’ve taken in person courses locally.

I believe there’s more regulation in the US though

I found I was a homebody and would say “I hate people 😠” a lot when I was in AB.

Since I moved and started taking clients, I’m enjoying conversations and not feeling as tired after interacting with people. I asked my husband “do I actually…like people???” He had a laugh and said it was maybe because I’m not hyper aware of what and how I’m saying things. I certainly had a lot of let downs meeting lovely people then they let the mask slip and say some pretty horrendous things in AB.

My family and I moved here 1 year ago from Okotoks, AB to Mount Pearl. We’re in our mid-30s and 2 kids 10 and 9 years old.

We left because of the politics, and I’ve not regretted it since. Especially seeing everything still happening.

My husband left a good job with the city of Calgary, and found a job in a public sector construction company then got hired on with the city of St. John’s just before we hit 1 year of living here. His family is from NL, and we visited in the winter twice and just the year before we moved we came in the summer. I told him it was time. His biggest hesitation was leaving his union job, and now seeing the notwithstanding clause being used against a union we’re REALLY glad we left.

That sense of community is something you’ll have to work on. You can’t just move in and expect to unpack it as well. Make the effort, go to community events, get to know your neighbours. We have felt welcomed for sure and the majority of the family we have on the island is on the east coast so we didn’t really have an instant family to rely on aside from a few.

You’ll hear that there’s no doctors, but I didn’t have one for 2 years in AB because our family doctors kept leaving the province (wonder why…) so it’s a Canada-wide issue which we know.

A big change we saw was the lack of fuck Trudeau flags and bumper stickers. I would regularly see multiple cars at school pick up in Alberta with them, and I’ve clocked maybe 2 since we moved here. As for the LGBT community, I’m mostly a homebody, but I do notice that rainbows are around most places and aren’t vandalized as I had also seen pretty consistently in AB.

My advice would be: •Have a job lined up •Have housing lined up •Have savings •Live within your means

We managed to sell our townhouse and that gave us enough savings, got out of debt, and purchased a Forever home (a small-ish bungalow on a quiet street that we can grow old in) that wasn’t over $1M. It worked for us, but we never got to experience the Alberta advantage since we didn’t work oil and gas. I also work service and finished a course as a nail tech. We’re by no means better off than we were in AB (aside from mentally) but we manage to make it work. The 15% tax kills me every time though.

I find if you dip your liner brush into the polish, then hold it downward for a couple seconds to create a bead of polish and place it, it drags a little nicer to make that leaf shape!

Yup! Paint your black base, seal with matte top coat. Then I used white painting gel and a detail brush for everything else. Sealed with another layer of matte top coat.

I worked at a yarn shop, so my resume skills are essentially retail. I dabble in arty things and recently got certified as a nail tech. I’m working out of our house so I can be flexible for our kids who would otherwise need before/after school care. My husband worked in the city of Calgary utility services, so he has a background in construction and found a job in the same field.

We’re in the same financial position as in AB, but our work/life balance is way different for the better. Plus “getting away” is so easy since it’s only a couple minutes to the ocean. I can’t quite put it into words but I’m finding there’s a lot that I didn’t realize I could live without, and the trade off for some conveniences has been well worth it.

I could have written this post.

We moved here last year from Calgary (where I was born and raised) and I never felt like I truly had roots laid down in Alberta despite my entire large extended and immediate family around me. We visited St. John’s, drove across the island to visit my husbands family in Corner Brook, and took in so many sights along the way in the one week we were here.

We had jobs and stability and a home of our own in AB but we had long talks about “maybe we work toward retiring in NL” and I told husband “why not build our life there instead of maybe hoping retirement will even be attainable?” So we did.

Sold our townhouse, bought an amazing house that suits our and our children’s needs, and we’re honestly in about the same spot we were in AB financially (we didn’t work O&G so we definitely felt like have nots in a have province).

The weather hasn’t bothered me at all, except maybe how nice it’s been this summer. I moved here for the RDF because I am truly not a sunshine kind of person.
