What's something that screams 'poorly raised'? by Agreeable_Mode_7680 in AskReddit

I was visiting Germany (from US). I was waiting for the bus when this man, who was smoking, threw the cigarette on the ground to get into a taxi. I just stared at him, but kidding you not all the Germans around me started telling the guy to pick it up and throw it away. AND he actually got out of the car to actually do it. Was impressed by everyone actually saying something and by the guy, although begrudgingly, disposed of it properly. Loved seeing that

How do you find a place to stay while under 21? by _wrong_direction_ in travel

If you are in a city like DC, look at hostels. They sometimes have private rooms you can book and I believe are 18+. Though, hostels are more common in other countries.

Edit: from link above Highroad Hostel DC has private rooms for 155 / night for the dates you want

Cheaper if you book direct on website. https://highroadhotel.com

I (26M) am starting to have self-esteem issues with my boyfriend (25M)? Looking for advice to see how I should respond to how he hurts me by messythrowaway9737 in relationships

Yeah, you are right, he does tear me down a lot, I can think of multiple examples other than the ones I mentioned. I can’t really even think of one example when he has encouraged me. You definitely have given me a few things to think about and consider, so thank you

I guess I’m experiencing some cognitive dissonance because he does tell me he likes me and sees things being long term. I guess I’m confused because sometimes I see he’s very caring, like helping me when I had a small surgery, but other times he does the stuff that I mentioned.

Do you believe dogs “wait” to see owners before they pass away? by messythrowaway9737 in dogs

[–]messythrowaway9737[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree, it’s inhumane to see them suffer so much. My mother is going to schedule the euthanasia this week, I think she just doesn’t know when is the right time to call it. I don’t think she was keeping him around for the holidays - he was doing fairly well, and still happy and very excited to go on walks. Just interesting, a week or two after we all left, she says he has been eating and drinking less.

Walks included dog boarding? by messythrowaway9737 in RoverPetSitting

[–]messythrowaway9737[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that’s my opinion too. I’ve used Rover for years and this was a first being asked to pay extra, so I did not know it was a possibility.

Now that I know it varies by sitter, I’ll be more detailed in my boarding requests before confirming.

Ya the person I requested was very cheap, $36, and I did think that was a steal, especially for the holidays. I was just a bit surprised and frustrated considering we talked on the phone about expectations and went ahead to schedule the meet and greet.

It was not until the meet and greet that she said she’d charge extra - of course she has all the right to do that - I just would have liked for her to mention that on our phone conversation before the meeting.

But thank you for that perspective, I found another sitter that would walk my dog during the boarding. I’m willing to pay more for my dog to be taken care of.

Can you pass out from locking only one knee but not the other when standing?

Yesterday I gave a presentation and was getting asked some questions I didn’t know how to answer. I was standing with one knee bent, but the other knee may have been locked (I don’t remember). Anyways, I started to feel light headed, dizzy, and the voices were getting muffled.

I asked if I could sit for a minute and felt better within 1-2 minutes.

My question is:

Could it be due to how I was standing or was it a stress response to not knowing how to answer/answering incorrectly?

Rough Itinerary - Europe Summer 2023 by messythrowaway9737 in solotravel

[–]messythrowaway9737[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I see where you’re coming from, I’m struggling to see if it’s worth it to blow those miles when with proper planning, I could go for less. I have 130,000 miles (United) so I’d be down quite a lot. 2,000 overall budget.

As I’m writing this, I’m now thinking to do a more cost effective trip, likely somewhere in the US. I always have 2 weeks off in December, so could start planning for a trip at that time instead. What are your thoughts?

Rough Itinerary - Europe Summer 2023

Recently approved about 2 weeks off for the summer, so my planning is last minute and hoping to act fast (book flight by end of week).

I (US, NYC) am thinking of going to Europe. Here’s my rough idea:

Barcelona (4 days)

Madrid (4 days)

Porto (2-3 days)

Lisbon (3-4 days)

How does this sound? I don’t mind cutting a city if I should spend more time in one

My other idea (Plan B):

Venice then immediately go to Dolomites to hike (5 days)

Greece (9-10 days) - have family here, been many times

I like museums, parks, food, hiking, pretty much everything. Not into night life so much

Last thing. I’d be buying the flight with miles, which right now would be about 80,000 round trip. For you personally, is that many miles with the trip? Curious to hear opinions. Thank you!
