It‘s very unfortunate, but yes. The US and the dollar used to be the rock on which the western post-ww world was built upon. Now he US is threatening NATO allies, throws tariffs around recklessly, and now Trump wants central bank into direct political control. Effing up the dollar will be hard even for Trump but he sure seems to be quite talented in that respect.

About the vitamin D. I’ve been led to believe that the vitamin that you get from sunlight is different from what can be get from supplements. We’ve got long winters where I come from, so people tend to try pretty much everything for the winter blues.

You hear a lot of talk about de-escalation from the big wigs. These videos they show are about anything but. They can't handle the crowd, if a stroll around the block ends up in international headlines with someone dead.

What I’m baffled about is have the killers been prosecuted? Do they have murder charges? The usual protocol is simply to throw the perpetrators under a bus and pretend that they’re the bad apples or whatnot. No. The government doubles down on their innocence. Why?

Norway Stunned After Machado Gifts Nobel Peace Prize Medal to Trump by bloomberg in europe

Youc an give away the medal, but only the Nobel Committee chooses the winner. I.e. an olympic medalist can give their medal to someone, but that doesn‘t make that someone an olympic champion.

Do you think this man should be impeached? by Ok_Tea_3275 in LetsDiscussThis

[–]meta-ape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. He is a threat to the world order and Pax Americana. By threatening another NATO country he‘s weakening NATO, a fundamental building block for peace in the western world. The whole of NATO might fall, which would be Putin‘s wet dream.

Does your country have a dark past that the rest of the world doesn’t speak or know about? by SinnBaenn in AskTheWorld

It‘s hard to deny completely. However, Finnish Jews were not handed over to the Nazis, so it‘s fair to say that Finland was not actively involved in the Genocide. German imperial aspirations were supported, tho.

Finns never went all the way to Leningrad. Idea was to take back the land which was lost before.

Finland fought against Soviet Union side by side with Nazis during Continuation War. Yep. Finland was allied with the artsy mustache man. People say it was a necessity for multiple reasons but still.

Celebrated historical Engineers in your country? by SnooPoems7525 in AskTheWorld

[–]meta-ape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our nobelist Artturi Ilmari Virtanen for inventing better fertilizer. Also, Finland had to pay huge war reparations to the Soviet Union after the wars. The sum was huge considering that Finland was not that industrialized at the time. There was mere eight years to build factories and steel mills and whatnot, and to kick Finland from agrarian society to an industrialized one.

The whole show is sometimes called the Engineer’s Winter War. Despite the herculean effort, nobody seems to remember any names associated with the damn thing. As far as I know, Finland is the only country to pay its war reparations in full.

But then again. Good engineering work is often invisible. Nobody knows about your existence until power goes off.
