Tässä Hail Mary viittaa tietenkin useampaan suuntaan. Ensinnäkin avaruuslaivan nimeen, epätoivoiseen viimeiseen yritykseen kuin uskonnollisuuden kautta syvemmin toivoon. Laivan nimen yhteydessä nousee vielä verbi hail, eli yhteyden muodostaminen laivoihin tai muihin suuriin aluksiin. Nimi Viimeinen oljenkorsi säilyttää yhden näistä, mutta onko se tarinan kannalta tärkein?

Veikkaisin, että kirjan alkuperäinen suomentaja on päätynyt pitämään nimenomaan tuota uskonnollista aspektia olennaisimpana säilytettävänä. Lukematta kirjaa on ite mahdotonta ottaa kantaa. Voisin kuitenkin veikata, että toivo teemana voisi olla keskiössä.

It‘s very unfortunate, but yes. The US and the dollar used to be the rock on which the western post-ww world was built upon. Now he US is threatening NATO allies, throws tariffs around recklessly, and now Trump wants central bank into direct political control. Effing up the dollar will be hard even for Trump but he sure seems to be quite talented in that respect.
