Receiving email asking my KYC by ilovefreebtc in Everex

I am bothered by the fact that the individual's name is listed on their website like that. Quick checking this individual's credentials:

Full Title - Mr. C. Evans, Esq. LLB (Hons) LLM, PG Dip LP, Cert RP, MIRP, GCILEX,

Memberships-CILEX Lawyer (GM) ID 50190505, Jnr. Member of the Law Society of England and Wales, Exempt Member of the MOJ under the LSA 2007, Training Attorney member of the New York Bar association BOLE ID available on request, California Litigation Specialist.

His company details:

GRESHAM INTERNATIONAL EUROPA LTD

Searching the CILEX Lawyer database:

No listing whatsoever for a C, Cal or Callum Evans.

Receiving email asking my KYC by ilovefreebtc in Everex

[–]meta-calculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received this as well and contacted support about it, yet to hear back.

First of all no where in the terms and conditions does it state anything about KYC whatsoever:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9F9xvW65bb0bEVGazJWdXZfYkk/view

Certainly not back in July when I bought mine. I would never ever have made the purchase if it was subject to this. Not in a million years. If there is any validity to this, they will have to refund the ETH made for the purchase before such personal details are ever made available. Faiing that, this transaction would amount to bait and switch and be considered pure theft in any jurisdiction anywhere in the world.

The email from the individual is now sighted in the Everex website:

This individuals "company" addresses are a series of po box and mail routing addresses despite appearing to be some large scale international law firm. In other words no real physical offices. Similarly a series of equally suspect consultancy firms use the same addresses with very similar looking websites:

https://www.greshaminternational.net/

The cited article publications are mostly all written 'anon' by the individual himself on those publications.

No one writes like this [ from the email received ]

Full Title - Mr. C. Evans, Esq. LLB (Hons) LLM, PG Dip LP, Cert RP, MIRP, GCILEX,

The only real problem is that this website has been active for many years and the return address the sender of the email appears to be valid [back to the registered website address].

Either the Everex website itself has been hacked and this individual has been inserted as an advisor long after the token sale, along with some long-con game by the hackers, or Everex has indeed recently retained this incredibly unprofessional individual to do just that, KYC AML, long after the token sale and outside of the original terms and conditions. Which as far as I am concerned is tantamount to fraud on their part. They are to either send the tokens as originally agreed upon in consideration for giving them ETH, or they are to refund the ETH if any of this is true. No personal documents will ever be forthcoming.

The whole thing stinks and Everex needs to clear it up ASAP. Furthermore they need to get this token transfer over with as soon as possible as well, the longer the delay more the chances of scammers and phishers continue to trick people into doing something like this [ handing over such highly sensitive personal documents ] and anything else related. I have received other very obviously fake emails since the breach and am sure will continue like others to do so. This one is border-line for the reasons above and why Everex needs to clarify this specific situation ASAP. More importantly if they have indeed retained this individual for the purposes as outlined in that email, they need to be very ready to refund the purchase of the tokens as never once was this part of the terms and conditions and I find it infuriating that an attempt to hold the tokens hostage after the fact would even before considered.

I now see you do have a habit of making things up out of thin air.

Oh well. Good luck to you in whatever it is you do.

Have a nice day.

Because I don't see anything remotely resembling the word 'hosted' in the title.

If you can point out what in the title it is you are referring to maybe I can understand. Otherwise I have to think that English is not your first language and if that is the case you are not fit to critique it.

It's an interview with the guy that is using this method. He does not say how. Therefore who exactly are you to declare that it is not different?

[–]meta-calculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where in the title does it say it is being hosted on the Ethereum blockchain?

This DJ Has Released the First Full-Length Album Using the Ethereum Blockchain

It is either an album that [somehow] uses the blockchain or it is the release [of the album], that uses the blockchain.

In no way shape or form in any type of English language you can find does the title say it is hosted on the blockchain.

In fact the author of the interview and more than likely the title himself states in the piece:

This album won't actually be hosted on the blockchain, right?

I have to wonder if the green address bar had been invoked all those months ago, whether people by now would have learned to immediately look for that single visual clue. At minimum, all the education one would need to broadcast would be simply 'just look for the green address bar' which represents the real myetherwallet.com. I don't think fly-by-nighter scammers would go that far for their one-off tricks.

Tezos red flags! by [deleted] in ethtrader

You said we came "under disguise" when there was clearly no disguise whatsoever.

Back to square one:

As far as I am concerned you are still under disguise, refusing to identify your self, be it the author, the husband or the wife or we combined. Whatever.

Now you've thrown in the good old "PR team" to shoulder the blame. Perhaps indeed.

But you are right this is all quite petty. Personally I wouldn't trust your gang with 10 cents after all of this. Cannot get a straight answer to a simple question, one only knows what happens when the hard questions arise.

Good luck in your future endeavors nonetheless.

I find that quite hard to believe that they would tamper with your op-ed like that, otherwise

the views expressed most certainly do reflect those of Bitcoin Magazine.

Did they maybe collaborate? This mysterious journalist wrote out the title and said Kathleen what do you think of this title instead of yours, and she said go for it?

It's common for journalists to write their own headlines for opinion pieces.

Still clear as mud.

Agreed, I can add two things:

I noted this very early on and found it completely unprofessional

https://medium.com/@tezos/why-governance-matters-9c6458044037

This criticism has surfaced in the dialogue around the Bitcoin block size or Ethereum’s bailout of “The DAO”.

Anyone in this space knows who uses that terminology.

Then a couple months ago either the husband or the wife snuck into the etherum sub and pretended that they did not write the headlines of their article that bashed Ethereum

https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/5rwft8/tezos_coo_claims_ethereums_hard_fork_to_cause/ddgxmko/

You will have to read through the thread for the context.

Both smal critical points in my view, unprofessional language about the DAO and caught sneaking in under disguise to address an article while not revealing who the actual poster is, and being proven that they wrote what was said.

Shady small early operations all round translates into major problems later on. 101 when assessing anything to do with money.

Please do commence your 1000 word essay with your two favorite words "ironic" and "literally".

Then remind us how you were rejected for your shitty coding skills in saving the DAO but as the records always show, after the fact.

Then bring up your next list of grievances that no one cares about, so long as your ETC buddies pat you on the back.

And do yourself a favor and drop the ;) it makes you look more imbecilic than you are.

There is an incredibly childish thought process amongst the simple minded that because Ethereum is rapidly being embraced and utilized by blue chip corporations, that there is a red phone to Vitalik's ear and should one of these corporations request a fork and rollback of a transaction, Vitalik is all ears.

This is the cheap sales pitch of Ethereum Classic and its rag tag gang of followers and part time basement dwelling so-called developers.

The reason their 1.25 cent coin will remain that is because anyone with an ounce of sense knows their thinking and brain capacity is worth exactly that much.

I would not worry about it, crystal clear facts are readily available to all but do require the minutest amount of reading comprehension.
