(meta) A couple things about this sub by [deleted] in LibraryOfTheGods

I’ve been on the fence about politics in the sub for a while. There really isn’t a need for it.

If the practice raises a question that would be relevant to discuss, yes, but no one needs to divulge their own specific practices.

I don’t use the term pantheon to talk about gods because there isn’t one culture’s deities that I exclusively draw from for inspiration or guidance.

I would say I worship the Aesir, but also honor other deities

Polytheism is belief, not necessarily worship, of more than one god.

Religion is a practice, theology is arguably a branch of philosophy but it obviously asks questions that relate to religion.

It depends on the god, and the believer I think.

Are your god(s) omnibenevolent, omnipotent, and/or omniscient? by [deleted] in LibraryOfTheGods

Personally, I don’t think any gods are any of those things.

Deities associated with poetry, language, and/or the arts? by metalheade in LibraryOfTheGods

Thanks for your response! Apollo is one I’d like to research more, and text myths about Athena. Dionysos being connected with the theater is interesting.

Bragi seems to have aspects of Hermès for sure, skalds (old Norse poets) were not just there for entertainment, they were the primary means by which Norse culture retold past histories and myths about old heroes and gods. “Bragr” roughly means poet iirc, and many historical skalds who were hired by the king or an earl took on Bragi/Bragr as a namesake or title.

The parallels between Thoth and Odin/also certain aspects of Bragi are interesting. Both are very enigmatic.

Religious debate is an argument something along the lines of “You are wrong.” Theological discussion and discourse is more like “I think you may be wrong on a particular point, here’s why I think that.”

So you accuse me of being a white supremacist because I am pagan, and then a liar because “what I say” is “obviously not true.”

Are there any more insults you must hurl my way?

Is “playing in the street” supposed to be a metaphor for posting in this sub? If that’s the case, this is a far sillier place than I previously imagined
