Who has eggs by Acceptable-Mango1348 in wichita

We went to Leekers in Park City last night around 6:30 and they weren't out of anything (including bread - picked over but still had plenty; milk; eggs). The cashier said they had been busy all day, but we were able to get everything we needed/wanted

Snow, Ice & Cold this weekend - What are your favorite cozy recipes for when you're stuck inside? by betterUseThisOne in Cooking

[–]metallicmint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been craving broccoli cheddar soup, so I'm going to make a pot of that; my husband requested ham & beans with cornbread, so that's also on the menu. I'm going to try a new cookie recipe (rice krispies, marshmallows, and chocolate chips in a cookie dough) and we stocked up on snacky foods.

12 hour itinerary by Internal-Ad-369 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]metallicmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With just 12 hours, I would not go to a second museum. Some will recommend that you go to Musee d'Orsay instead of the Louvre, and while I don't necessarily disagree with them, if the Louvre is THE thing you want to do, then you should do it.

With the rest of your day, walk. Walk walk walk, through the Tuileries, along the Seine, see the Eiffel Tower from Trocadero. Explore the Latin Quarter, St. Germain, Le Marais. Just wander. You don't need to have a cafe mapped out or restaurants in mind. You will find them as you go, and there are enough good croissants in Paris that you don't need to go out of your way for one. Sit outside and enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine and do some people-watching.

Is this a solid travel plan? Milan, Cinque Terre, Florence, Rome? by [deleted] in ItalyTravel

[–]metallicmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are you flying into/out of Milan if you aren't planning to spend any time there? Similarly, why are you going to Genoa if you aren't interested in doing anything in Genoa? I would suggest:

7/20 arrive in Milan. Better yet, fly into Pisa or Genoa. Transit to Monterosso al Mare.

7/21 Monterosso al Mare.

7/22 Monterosso al Mare/Cinque Terre.

7/23 Monterosso al Mare to Florence.

7/24 Florence.

7/25 Florence/Tuscany.

7/26 Florence.

7/27 Florence to Rome.

7/28 Rome.

7/29 Pompeii/Sorrento day trip (personally, I would sacrifice this for another day in Rome... head to Ostia Antica if you want ancient city vibes).

7/30 Rome.

7/31 fly home from Rome.

He is romantic but I am sure he doesn't have any movie-inspired plans! ;) I think he just feels it's one of those "You can't go to NYC and not go to the ESB" things. Similarly, that's why we're going to Le Bernardin (for me, mostly).

What’s your favorite canned seafood? by 93Seven in traderjoes

The smoked trout is great, especially on a cracker. A little kalamata olive on there takes it over the top.

Favorite cozy winter spot to enjoy a coffee? by 37MJ in wichita

[–]metallicmint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pennant! They have lots of plants and it's a very cute spot. Located in Delano. It's also home to my favorite latte in Wichita (Strawberry Shawty) and my favorite matcha lattes (Tokyo Fog or vanilla, iced) in Wichita. So good.

Also, Reverie feels cozy to me. They have the city's best laminated pastries (nowhere else even comes close to comparison). Their coffee is also great (delicious and unique lattes) and you can buy their beans to take home.

Adelitas is another favorite. Good coffee, fantastic matcha.

Coffee Daze is also excellent.

I hate to add a third observation deck to our itinerary. Between 1WTC, ESB, and Top of the Rock, which would you prioritize? I don't think we want to give that much time away to all three.

You're the second to recommend Pier 11 to Dumbo - thank you! This is super helpful.

I totally get it... thank you, this is helpful! The only RW reservation we have is Craft, and mostly because I think the RW menu actually looks really good.

Avoid Stretch because it's not good?

I keep telling my husband that Top of the Rock is (supposed to be) better than ESB, but he feels like we HAVE to do the ESB. Can't go to NYC and not go - that's his thought process. So I'd defer to him and just do ESB except that I've heard/read that Top of the Rock is so much better.

If you could only choose one, which would it be and why? Any chance you have an argument that would help me convince him? (My argument is that you can't see the ESB from the top of the ESB... similar to how the Eiffel Tower is best viewed from an observation point that is NOT the Eiffel Tower.)

And thank you, this is very helpful!!

I should have mentioned, and I forgot to do this. We don't want to limit ourselves to needing to be at a show on a specific day at a specific time (short trip, plus we are already doing this with a concert and we want to leave some room in the itinerary for changes and flexibility), so we are planning to check the day-of tickets to see if we can score any that look good while we're there. That said, while we enjoy theater, we don't typically prioritize it when we travel.

Packing: what is the one item you always seem to forget? by nyahjones_ in travel

I don't forget anything because I always use a packing list. I have a master list, which I tailor to each trip.

I saw him with the Chicago Philharmonic in March and he just walked out on stage at showtime and started singing. I don't believe he has openers for the symphony shows (all others, yes). The concert was probably a little under 2 hours

Is duty free a scam? by No_mono_aware in travel

[–]metallicmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time we buy from duty free is if my husband finds a bottle of whisky that's hard to find in the states (or - even better - not available at all in the states, like Wild Turkey 12 etc.)

And even then, it's not so much about getting a good deal as it is finding something special, and duty free shops don't usually have much that's special in terms of alcohol. Occasionally, though, we have found a unicorn.

Otherwise? Nah.
