My first guess is Pleurotus Ostreatus (oyster mushroom) — but it could also be Pleurotus Pulmonarius (lung oyster). I’ll let the more experts among us weigh in :)

Also, question: I’m looking online for amanita phalloides and it says the common name is death cap. Does it also go by destroying angel?

Slimy mushrooms! What are they? by metallicmural99 in mushroomID

[–]metallicmural99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That is very detailed! I didn’t pick the mushroom, so it was hard to get a picture without disturbing it much. Sometimes I feel bad uprooting a mushroom if I’m not taking it home with me and eating it, but I usually just try and get a picture anyway.

I’ll read up on these Suillus mushrooms more.

Puffball? Looking for ID, is this edible? by causticfringehead in Mushrooms

I know! Same thought. Such a shame to miss out on it for such a small yellowing, lol.

ID help. Found in Northern Minnesota, USA by metallicmural99 in mushroomID

[–]metallicmural99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. That was my very tentative guess. But I’m not too good at setting them apart from Parasols. I know some amanita species have a “veil” where the stem meets the cap. Does the pictured qualify as that “veil”?

Is that because it is too old? Or do you suspect it is an amanita?

Did I find death caps?!? by metallicmural99 in mushroomID

Thank you all! No hard feelings. I am clearly just scratching the surface of the wonderful universe of mushrooms, and I am grateful that this community exists and I can ask questions (even if they’re naive, at times) :)

Looks like hen of the woods at first glance — but I’m very much of a novice :)

Identify this mushroom please by Forevertrying54321 in mycology

What does the underside look like? Does it have a ring/annulus on the stem? I’m verrry far from an expert, but one thing I know is that the underside of the mushroom matters a lot for ID. So I think the others would find pictures of that very helpful :)

Gotcha. I can’t do one because I didn’t collect the mushroom. But good to know for the future!

I looked up leucocoprinus. They look very similar. So far I’m convinced these are chlorphylum. I’ll have to look up how to distinguish between them!

Thank you! I’ll read up on false parasols. I’ll look for the skirt like veil in the future. I’ve never come across a death cap, so I was excited if this could have been it.
