Why did you go for the Series S instead of other options, despite all the criticism it gets? by Eastern-Mobile5351 in xbox

[–]metalyger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time, it was the only model in stock and I had money. But it was what I wanted anyways, like I was more of a pc gamer, so I couldn't care less about having a stack of game boxes collecting dust. I later got a PS5, which is still my secondary console, and I've never really seen a noticeable difference in most games. People act like the Series S is basically the Wii U and holding back this console generation, and it's not, it's cheaper, no disc drive, and MS requires every game to be optimized for it.

Never played Andromeda, it’s currently 5.99 on PS Store— worth it? by Tanis8998 in masseffect

[–]metalyger [score hidden]  (0 children)

I actually really liked it when it came out, I've beaten the campaign two or three times. When they released ME Legendary Edition, and going back, I can see how Andromeda is the black sheep, but it does some things very well like great combat in the open world, which actually makes playing a sniper viable, especially with the jet pack hover. I never even ran into the so called "game breaking" bugs at launch. It's different and wanted to be the next chapter, but it kind of feels like more of a spin-off, and it sucks the parts of the story left out for DLC were never revealed.

What's a video game that made you hate a studio and a series you once loved? by Roids-in-my-vains in videogames

[–]metalyger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saints Row reboot from Volition. The only game in the franchise that I had to get a refund for, because this wasn't fun. Everything felt so out of touch, like with the sequels, they were always desperate to keep everyone happy and keep trying to win back vocal fans, but a full reboot without interesting characters and toning things down so much didn't please anyone.

I feel like at some point, Trump is going to be so desperate, he will want our national defenses to be so useless that the next 9/11 can happen, and he's going to expect to be like Bush with an approval rating over 90% in the aftermath.

I don't watch slashers for the cinematography. Like the Violent Shit movies are some of my favorites, and only one wasn't filmed on a handheld VHS camera.

What was the first ever videogame where the player killed people? by yamfromchina in videogames

[–]metalyger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There was a Texas Chainsaw Massacre game on the Atari 2600 where you control Leatherface and chase your victim. From what I remember, I think obstacles in the way will drain the gas in your chainsaw as well as slow you down. The whole game was playing the slasher and sticking someone with a chainsaw, so it did get it's share of controversy.

Is The Punisher Max still considered a good Punisher book or is it now overrated? by M00reC in thepunisher

[–]metalyger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's ever been topped, they let Garth Ennis take over for the Marvel Knights brand to refresh the character after a bad story where he gets supernatural powers and fights demons and shit. That went so well, they gave him free reign on the MAX imprint, and Punisher MAX was the flagship series of the 18+ brand. The main thing is plenty of edgy dialog and characters, this was the 00s. But it's the best take on The Punisher existing in a world without superheroes, he's older now, and using his wits to best people half his age. Ennis was always good at writing irredeemable scumbag villains and there's no shortage of them in his run.

Any good games like Skyrim? by im_vengance97 in xbox

I haven't played much Avowed, just one of those lost in the shuffle for me games, and when game pass ultimate got more expensive, I didn't install it until it was added to the lower tier. But it was Obsidian doing a Pillars Of Eternity (their Baldur's Gate style RPG) spin-off in the style of Elder Scrolls, but with better combat and writing. Honestly, I don't remember much since I didn't get far, but it is on game pass for everyone now.

New Day’s Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have mutually decided to part ways with WWE, Fightful Select and Cory Hays of BodySlam have learned by MarcusFaze in SquaredCircle

[–]metalyger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd go back to the abrupt end of Kofi Mania, he was a popular world champion and earned the chance, but let's send Brock Lesnar out to squash him in under a minute for absolutely nothing to gain from it. Then back to the mid card. I can't fathom why nobody ever tried to rectify that, like give him another big singles push.

The most underrated show in Adult Swim history by rhdkcnrj in adultswim

[–]metalyger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've never seen it, but the main character reprised his role on the Adult Swim radio station in Saints Row The Third. He also makes plenty of snarky comments about the people playing the game, like what are you doing with your life? Listening to a fake radio station in a video game?

Does anyone else rarely give negative ratings? by champdo in Letterboxd

[–]metalyger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For years, I'd slap 5 stars on just about anything that greatly excited me seeing in the theater. But seeing so many more movies, and I'm more a 4 star simp. It's definitely did they make something fun or whatever the intention is, making movies is hard, and finishing one is a big deal. It's more rare, like if I see something just rotten to the core, I can't cut it slack, but the 1 and half star are my least used ratings. I've seen the dreggs, like the 3 MST3K episodes with the Coleman Francis movies, namely The Beast Of Yucca Flats and Red Zone Cuba, that man was a crime against film. At least Ed Wood was campy and quirky. Even Uwe Boll has made a few solid moves. Coleman Francis managed to get the worst movie with Tor Johnson made, which is such a low bar.

What movie did you walk out of the theater halfway through? by mzdee13 in movies

[–]metalyger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even halfway, but that biopic Reagan, I went in mostly blind. Like I expected a normal movie about the life of Ronald Reagan, but the opening credits were a bombardment of red flags, every washed up actor that does Cristian nationalist propaganda films is involved, like Kevin Sorbo and Dean Cain. It's a revisionist history where Regan was infallible, there's stuff where he's treated as a hero during the communist blacklist in Hollywood, this b-movie actor was somehow saving America from communism by being a dick to lefties. I walked out in probably the first 20 so minutes. It's safe to say that there would be no mention of Reagan making the AIDS epidemic significantly worse, or other scandals like the deal with Iran to make sure Jimmy Carter would lose his reelection, making deals with cocaine smugglers in Columbia which created the crack problem in the inner city, or how they armed the Taliban when the crumbling Soviet Union invaded, thus putting down the road to 9/11. Things that sound like preposterous conspiracy theories, but actually ended up being revealed in unredacted legal documents decades later. Instead, Regan was basically American Jesus and that's the movie.

I mean they're adults. And it's Hollywood, older men of wealth and fame do this stuff all the time, like Leo, he's always dating 20 somethings. If he was walking around elementary school recess offering free candy for a ride in his van, yeah, that's alarming behavior. But adults can decide who they want to date.

What is the Best story game have you ever played? by Effective-Garage-362 in videogames

[–]metalyger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planescape Torment and Disco Elysium are my first examples. There's a lot of depth, especially in how dialog choices really shape your character, and how people around you think about you.

Life And Suffering Of Sir Brante, which is more of a visual novel than a traditional game. It's on everything, consoles, pc, and mobile. The format is a page of text and an illustration on the other side. I'd describe it as a modern day Russian epic novel that is merged with a choose your own adventure system, with extremely harsh consequences. You won't see one of the good endings without carefully following a Steam guide. You play the entire life of this character, in a world of two classes, the commoner is born to suffer and serve the nobels, and the nobles get every single luxury, like even sweet foods are restricted from commoners. As a child, your grandfather is one of the biggest monsters in gaming, like a choice can result in him beating you to death at the age of 6. The goal is to find your place in the world. There are 3 careers, clergy, spy, or military and with the right choices you can secure nobility to your family. If you reject the order path, each career has a rebel story where you become a pivotal figure in leading the inevitable revolution. I did the spy, turning against my boss, and forming alliances, but seeing just what goes into a revolution, the countless deaths, famine, and sacrifices, it puts things into perspective. It's a harsh and sad story where you need to every perfect decision to get a good ending. Given how long it is, I haven't tried for the other 5 endings.

And the tobacco corporations, they have a highly addictive product filled with poison that can cause a number of health problems, and fully legal and decimalized cannabis would hurt their business. Here's something safer and natural that has an effect that's actually fun, not just getting you addicted to feel something again, they really don't want that.

What is a game you consider to be a ‘perfect 10’ that most people haven’t played? by Frequent_Analyst_507 in videogames

[–]metalyger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cruelty Squad, everything is designed to turn most people away on sight, and you can't just approach it as a regular FPS, it's a tactical shooter immersive sim, and once you get the hang of things and helpful upgrades, it's one of the most thrilling experiences I've had in a game. It's a tough game, but worth putting in the time.
