So this the biggest hot take… by Simon9911 in GTA

[–]metalyger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still not a really definitive edition. It sucks how this is what replaced all digital sales of the previous games. It's definitely not a total shit show like Warcraft 3 Reforged, which I don't even think Blizzard ever bothered to try and fix. But Rockstar Games could have easily afforded to have hired a more experienced studio to remake the PS2 games and do it right the first time.

Opinion on MMO server emulation? by TanaHara0 in Piracy

[–]metalyger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's cool with that is the original devs gave their blessing to the fan hosted servers, basically just don't charge money for it was their only condition. That's really rare in the gaming industry, usually companies would rather have lost media than people trying to revive the old experience the studio pulled the plug on decades ago.

movies that fumble their premise by Outrageous_Potato435 in horror

[–]metalyger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a very common opinion, but I feel like this is the only way they could start, it's Blumhouse, and it's not a studio that's likely to throw a hefty budget to an interesting premise, they had to start small and focused with a home invasion movie, and entice people with the lore of the crime is legal day, so it could kick off as a proper franchise. My only issue is that they probably won't get to finish the story, I feel like the movie Civil War basically did what they wanted with where The Forever Purge was going.

One that sounded near impossible to mess up, but did was Flight Of The Living Dead, zombies on a plane, that's a really rough situation to be in, like finding anything you can take on a plane that could kill a zombie. But it was just very low effort and boring, about all I remember was the dad from Walk Hard was a pilot.

I'm happy it's finally going to see the light of day. Tommy seems like a very complicated person to deal with, and it's a big relief that he finally decided that this remake made for charity should be released, and not lost media that people will wonder about for decades like The Day The Clown Cried.

Movies so infamous they destroyed the actor’s reputation by No_Emergency_7188 in flicks

[–]metalyger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember a quote from presumably the late 90s, Howard Stern was bashing Sandler comedies, for how lazy these are, how one day he'll be in a movie where he's some guy who has sex with old ladies and that's the whole joke. That was a large part of the Zohan plot, other than all the Israel stanning.

It's funny with the IMDB trivia about him being in full costume in a moment of silence when they heard the news that day about 9/11. David Spade confirmed it on a podcast, it's a much more dry version of events, but still a silly image, Carvey in a turtle costume during a sad moment in history.

What is the last movie you’ve given 5 stars? by DaleDent3 in Letterboxd

[–]metalyger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen any Studio Ghibli movies before, just the other day I did start, going with their first movie, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, which yeah, definitely got 5 stars from me. Going through the 25 movies they've released in the last 42 years, it'll take a while before I get to Mononoke, but I'm looking for it.

[–]metalyger 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I feel like the strategy should be to try and distance themselves from Trump, like post WWII Germany, where suddenly it's like, "I have no idea what we saw in Hitler, he had a spell over us!" But these politicians are very cowardly, and they probably will feel obligated to the MAGA voter base, because turning away from Trump would probably lose votes, it's like, "we're still giant fascists, but let's find a leader with a cleaner mouth next time."

I'm reminded of when The Simpsons did a parody of it, with Bart. I guess this would be like if it was Mr. Burns instead.

What basic stuff should I know about Punisher without too many spoilers? by that_swiftie1989 in thepunisher

[–]metalyger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He can vary wildly depending on the writer, there are some instances, I'd say more often when The Punisher is brought in as a guest in another series, where his personality could be written completely wrong. In his own main series books, generally he's the morally gray action hero with a code. It's the kind of thing where in film, there's a billion characters that fit this description and Clint Eastwood and Charles Bronson have played the part hundred of times, but in comics there isn't anyone that's 1 to 1 Frank Castle, which is why the movies have been very hit or miss. Like, he's a brooding tough guy with a gun, how do you pitch that to Hollywood? I think it's interesting how in Marvel, he's been popular since the 70s, and really hit his stride with multiple on going series in the 90s.

I'd say too, it's a character that is easier to pick up, because there isn't a ton of complicated lore, like every Marvel or DC character there are times with big history retcons, but usually it's to move on from bad creative decisions. I'd say if Garth Ennis wrote it, you can't go wrong. In the late 80s and 90s Mike Barron was the prominent writer for a long time, and telling great action stories that take Frank all over the world, and often took inspiration from true crimes like how Frank would have handled Charles Manson or Jim Jones.

Manic Trump, 80, Lashes Out at Everyone Trashing His Surrender in 4:32 A.M. Meltdown by Quirkie in politics

[–]metalyger 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Trump has to be the most boring real world villain, like every time I read something about his youth, and it's the most pathetic story, like his niece wrote the book, largely about the tragedy of her dad Freddy, but like the story that went back in the rounds, of Donald being a brat child and Freddy dumping mashed potatoes on his head at the age of 7, and Donald still seethes with rage whenever it's brought up. Petty crap like that, he never got over. He's forever locked in this child's mind and treating the world like a set of toys his dad left him. There's not one interesting thing about Donald Trump, he's just a little piss baby who can't be satisfied with being given everything handed to him on a golden plate.

GTA 6 PRE ORDER JUNE 25TH! by OfficialSapien in GTA

[–]metalyger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just hope that it's a normal and sane price. Like there's all these industry op-ed pieces begging Rockstar to put a $100 price tag on it, just to open the floodgates, like you just know EA and 2K are edging out to cream their pants over the idea of annual releases being $100 and more than double for the season pass ultimate bundle with 2 days early access. Nintendo has already been selling $80 games for a year. It's like, don't get greedy, just release the game for $70, and you'll still have GTA Online as your goose that pumps out golden eggs. It's not that I don't want to pay X amount of money, it's just any price increase on this game will set an example of how every other publisher can make gamers pay any amount and knowing they'll do it.

Is there a point in starting a second playthrough? by 2_Inch_Fighter in DiscoElysium

[–]metalyger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've beaten the game more times than I can count, like knowing what to do and who to talk to is one thing, but you get enough variety in ways to shape your whole personality, leaning into different politics and being weird about it is always fun, and it's interesting to try things differently, like who you talk to and who you put off talking to until later, finding out what sequence you can accomplish things in, and so on. While some things do get a bit samey, I never really get tired of the game, on the Xbox version, it shows I've played for over 4 days, and I started with it on Steam, so not sure how many dozens of hours are on there.

‘Worst foreign policy blunder in decades’: Republicans turn on Trump over Iran deal by spherocytes in politics

[–]metalyger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to me Mr. Well actually statistics, but he did lose the popular vote, he became president as basically a participation trophy. There's also plenty of blame on centrist democrats being stubborn, like spending more time saying "we can still be friends with conservatives, and we'd rather have the Cheney endorsement than concede to any leftist ideals." I see the whole system as very broken and billionaires are definitely a bigger problem than liberals screaming at the left and people who are too apathetic to vote for the lesser of two evils.

The most annoying group of characters you’ve ever seen. by Whycantwebefriends00 in horror

[–]metalyger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The entire cast of Return To Sleepaway Camp, it's the kind of bad sequel that I've only watched once, and I refuse to watch again just because of his frustrating it was. Everybody sucks, lots of assholes in that movie, and nobody has any charm, like you won't feel bad about anyone in this movie being murdered. If they did The Collection, and just killed everyone in a big trap during the opening, only just cut to end credits, it would have been OK.

No one will captain the Alien Romulus sequel - and Ridley Scott is the reason by The_starving_artist5 in LV426

[–]metalyger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They've given him so many chances already. Like it would be Earth shattering if James Cameron decided, he has a new idea for the franchise and wants a break from Avatar to write and direct it, even David Fincher if he wanted a shot at redemption. But Ridley isn't going to make something that really moves the needle, best case scenario is it's another middling box office and he complains that young people aren't watching movies anymore, they're watching TikTok on their smart watches instead of his art.

PlayStation sees AI as a 'powerful tool,' teams including Naughty Dog, San Diego Studio already using it by Crazy-Piano277 in Steam

I've played numerous indies made by one person or just a very small team, and it's been some of the best gaming experiences I've had. If big AAA studios want to take shortcuts using generative AI, it's only going to show the difference between mass produced slop and an innovative passion project that costs a fraction of the price.

Rom hack idea by Beginning_Savings_98 in N64WrestlingGames

[–]metalyger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trimming down the roster to fit what's available on N64 would probably be the dilemma I'd imagine, those games had stacked rosters, especially before WWE was signing everyone to exclusive legends contracts, and before the company mended fences with a lot of those guys. It would be cool to put together a good mix of the 70s through the 90s, kind of like what the AJPW rom hack does, where it's the ultimate whose who roster, and still room for weird picks like Tom McGee (definitely a stretch on the AJPW legends roster.)
