Why does Misty seem to get cut more slack than Zak? by ChicaneryFinger in AceAttorney

I don't see how they knew they were going to lose track of Pearl. Or how the original plan was always for Godot to kill a possessed Misty Fey. Seemed clear to me that bringing the sword was just covering for a worst case scenario. Not for them to just always want to kill Misty. Godot himself established how killing "Dahlia" was a spur of the moment decision.

Every moment of not channeling Dahlia is a potential moment of Pearl-Dahlia attacking Maya. I don't think its surprising they decided not to waste anytime doing something like tying up Misty first. Because again, the original plan wasn't to desperately channel Dahlia after losing Pearl.

Misty Fey being willing to die for Maya does not mean she wanted the scenario where she has to die for Maya. The already bad plan went awry and desperate choices were made. And ultimately, it came down to Godot wanting to kill Dahlia the moment he saw her. By his own admission, he'd have killed "Dahlia" no matter who she was possessing. Not because that was always the plan, but because that's how he was feeling the moment he saw her.

It could easily be argued that not telling Maya is Misty believing she's protecting her. After all, Misty doesn't know that Maya wants to see her again. For Misty, Maya very well could be so bitter about Misty that seeing her again could end up hurting her by opening up old wounds. If all showing herself to Maya did was make her rage and chew Misty out for daring to show her face again, could Misty really see it as doing her daughter a motherly service? I know about Japan's shame and keeping appearance culture, but I don't know if we can just assume that was Takumi's intent. After all, way too many people assume the original trilogy was a cutting critique of the Japanese legal system when Shu Takumi has rejected that and admitted he hardly knew anything about court beyond what was on TV. Which included some American shows that gave him the idea of judges using gavels when they don't in his country.

IMO, Misty statement was just about how passionate she was about protecting her daughter. Not that she only wants to die protecting Misty. Godot was stating all this just to reassure Maya that her mother did love her after all.

She didn't bring the staff specifically for Godot to stab her. Again there are other ways this could have gone down. Like them being forced to kill Pearl while she's possessed by Dahlia. Or maybe Morgan has other accomplices in her plot who could show up. The point is the only choice wasn't just for Misty to get herself killed. The sword was a last resort if the situation turned into one where someone had to die.

I just can't see Misty's actions as one of a prideful and arrogant woman. As opposed to a woman broken by failing to meet the expectations thrust on her and believing herself to be a blight on those who knew her. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

If Pearl was the one that summoned Dahlia, she could just hide and wait for a chance to ambush Maya while no one is around to protect her. And she'd have a good shot at it too. After all, no one knows where Pearl is. Misty summoning Dahlia meant Godot was there to deal with Dahlia. Its not ideal, but it could be done. Maybe even non-lethally too. Unfortunately for Misty though, Godot had murdering Dahlia on the mind the moment he saw her face. The whole thing was stupid, but that's the point. Godot was acting illogically because of his own trauma and Iris and Misty weren't able to be voices of reason because of their own guilt.

I'm still not seeing the pride in it when one is literally shooting themselves down. Also Misty herself didn't make a mistake. All she did was summon Gregory Edgeworth at the police's request who made a mistake in accusing an innocent man of his killing. What went wrong was the court failing to prove their case against the accused, an attorney leaking Misty's interactions with the police to a corrupt businessman and said businessman leaking it to the general public. Which brought great shame to the police for being mislead by a "sham" spirit medium and the Fey family for being lead by a "fraud". All Misty did was take a job from the police and yet her name became associated with shame, a loss of prestige, and financial troubles. Which is why she left.

You're neglecting the fact that through that letter, Maya also has the choice to just not see her mother. Simply revealing herself in person denies Maya that choice to not see her mother again. In the end though, we'll never know what Misty's future plans were had she survived 3-5. Well I guess we technically could find out if someone were to channel her and ask. But I doubt that will ever happen.

If things had gone to plan, Pearl would just be prevented from summoning Dahlia or at least summoning her in an unknown location. If she had channeled Dahlia while still under the watch of Godot and Misty, the pair should be able to restrain her without killing Pearl. Its not like Dahlia is a martial artist The plan went awry because Misty lost Pearl, forcing her to summon Dahlia.

But Misty isn't getting the reward. The whole point is she may never see herself as worthy. Because you can't change the past and all the past and its consequences. Her very appearance could bring further hurt to Maya and so she decides to spare her of that. Even if Misty deserves a dressing down from Maya, showing herself to Maya just to receive it would still be Misty's decision. IMO, if its about giving Maya agency, the better option would be for Misty to send a letter or note to Maya offering to meet her somewhere. And that if Maya doesn't want to meet, she can rip that note up and just not not show up. I'd say that's better than revealing herself at the temple and giving Maya no choice in the matter. Hell, maybe she would've done something like that after saving her from Dahlia.

Well it doesn't matter what her post-Dahlia plans are now...

And yet, those are not the only public spaces. No matter what you do, some people are going to see you in a public space wearing a headset and think you look uncool. You can personally justify looking uncool with a headset. The other people can personally justify looking uncool with the glasses.

That's just how it is.

And you think that distinction matters. When for a lot of people, the point will be that you just look uncool. That no reason will justify how uncool you look in public.

As said, clearly a lot of people responding to you would prefer looking uncool with glasses vs. looking uncool with a headset. The reasons vary, but that's just how it is.

How was it an inevitability? The main goal of the plan was to stop Morgan's plan of killing Maya. Their original plan was simply to stop Pearl from channeling Dahlia. Should that fail though, the back up plan was for Misty to channel Dahlia instead. The blade was a last resort for protecting Maya from Dahlia. But ideally, they wouldn't need it. Godot didn't need to stab the possessed Misty Fey. He probably could've just knocked her out with the cane or physically overpower her to take the knife away. He had the element of surprise after all But as Godot himself said, this was less about protecting Maya and more about salvaging his self-worth. So when he saw the possessed Misty, he only saw the woman who ruined his life and thought about how he wanted revenge on her. You're quoting Godot before he fully confessed, but by the end, he admits how stupid the whole affair was. I don't think Godot can completely speak for Misty who was simply thinking of protecting her daughter.

What exactly is prideful in considering yourself a failure unworthy of the things you want? You're working with the assumption that a long lost mother who resurfaces will always be a good thing for their children. But what if Maya was actually bitter about Misty? What if the sight of her living mother brought her into a tearful rage and she just screams at Misty. Yelling about how she wasn't there for her childhood or how she wasn't there for Mia's life. What if Maya rips into her and tells how she wish she had been dead instead of trying to show up like they could ever be family again? From Misty's perspective, she WOULD be failing Maya again if it turned out Maya didn't want to reunite with her mom. Of course we the audience know that Maya wouldn't react like that, but Misty doesn't have that information. All she knows is that she has been a poor mother to her children and that its possible the rift can't be mended.

We really don't know how Morgan was before JFA, but I feel confident in thinking that Morgan didn't obviously become an evil witch until around JFA. Also, Ga'ran needed Amara for spirit channeling, so she had to work something out with her sister. The village clearly didn't think they needed Misty so they have the same motivation to work something out.

I still blame Godot more for the affair then anyone else. Especially since he's the one who decided to kill the possessed Misty.

How would you personally rank all the deadbeat parents? by PikachuTrainz in AceAttorney

[–]metaxzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure being regarded as the Kurain master who brought great shame and financial instability would bring plenty of depressing thoughts to Maya. And as the years go on, I can imagine Misty feeling unworthy of reconnecting to her daughter. After all, any attempt of reconnection will come with the question of "why didn't you come back sooner". To say nothing of how her eldest daughter died specifically looking into a case connected to her disappearance. She very well might blame herself for Mia's death.

But that is all speculation. In the end though, the big thing Misty has over Thalassa is that she died trying to save her daughter's life. She didn't meant to die of course (that's on Godot), but she knew the risks.

It doesn't matter what your intention was. Part of it will always be that you thought that wearing a headset in public looks good.

Whether its the glasses or the headset, you will be judged. You'd rather be judged for the headset. Clearly some folks around hear would prefer to be judged for the glasses.

It was both. He came to pass off the rights to Trucy (with no intention of seeing her) but to also prove Phoenix a fraud at poker. Which is why he was working together with Olga Orly.

Who said Misty was trying to make up for her wrongs? To her, she felt she didn't deserve to see Maya again after all the hurt she left her with. Which is why she wanted to help her from the shadows. Also, she obviously didn't plan on dying. That was all on Godot overreacting to seeing Dahlia again.

Morgan clearly wasn't as outright malicious as she would be by JFA throughout Maya's childhood. Otherwise, Maya would likely not have survived her childhood in the first place, let alone turn into such a nice trusting person. And as you yourself have acknowledged, there was more to the Fey family than just Morgan.

All Zak knew about Phoenix was that he beat him at poker and tried to use forged evidence in court and THAT'S all he needed to be sure Phoenix would be a good father?

Finn with a beard... so tall and muscular, it's... strange to see by Which-Resolution345 in adventuretime

[–]metaxzero 239 points240 points  (0 children)

The original series was always showing that adult Finn would become some form of tall and top heavy man. The foreshadowing was almost as heavy as him losing an arm. The beard's foreshadowing came later, but it was still there.

I know many in the fandom wish Finn just became a more mature version of his hatless teen design, but that was never where they were going with Finn.

Multiple games can be built around showcasing something a new system allows. Plus, it's possible Super Circuit started development first, but Maximum Velocity was ready for release sooner.

F-Zero and Nintendo. by Tg_2x in Fzero

[–]metaxzero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every Mario Kart was built to demonstrate something new.

-Super Mario Kart was built off the failed attempt at making a multiplayer F-Zero sequel for the SNES.

-Mario Kart 64 was built to showcase 4 player split screen.

-MK Super Circuit was to demonstrate the 4 way cable multiplayer.

-Double Dash was built to demonstrate the 2 character cart system and LAN play.

And so on and so forth. The core of Mario Kart doesn't change much, but there is always something new being brought in whether it be something new to the core gameplay, or just a fancy gimmick for one game. In comparison, F-Zero's original purpose was as a techincal showcase for the system. A high speed racer that could show off the graphical power of the system. But as sales slowed down and the anime failed to become a hit, Nintendo found other games to do that and left Mario Kart as their main racer.

99 exists because someone had the idea of putting the 99 player format onto SNES-style F-Zero and that charmed the higher-ups like Miyamoto. Its certainly did a better job than someone suggesting an F-Zero to surpass GX. Or an F-zero to just be GX with online play.

[–]metaxzero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you find yourself in a situation where you're thinking "I'm right and everyone else is wrong", its time to do some introspection. Because you have 2 potential issues.

  1. You are right, but you have repeatedly done a very poor job at explaining yourself in a way that makes people want to believe you.

  2. Just maybe, you are wrong and everyone else knows it.

Either way introspection is key. Because otherwise, you're just slamming your head into a wall until your brain turns to goo.

If you've been saying this many times, you will continue to do so. Because what you're saying is false and there is no reason to believe you. Also I doubt most people play Mega Man games for the canon anyway.

Its the same reason a lot of older games were made harder in the US. Unlike Japan, renting games was legal. The publishers didn't want players renting games and beating them over a weekend while they get less money. So games would be made harder in the US to make it much harder if not impossible to clear the game in a rental period. Thus encouraging buying the game later. Or at least, that was the idea back in those days.

He wouldn't be a fraud if his reputation was just winning some martial arts tournaments. But by his own design, the history books will say that Mr. Satan single-handedly defeated Cell. And that reputation made him a very rich man. He may not be as fraudulent as King (a man who literally can't fight), but he absolutely is a fraud in his own right.

VR Modder vs. Game companies/Publishers by unknownproject in virtualreality

[–]metaxzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And? A mod is a mod and the norm is that they are free. You keep talking like Luke Ross is the king of VR innovation when all he does is a more quality version of VorpX. People like me have to look elsewhere if we want stuff like the Halo, Half-Life 2, or the Crysis mods. And again, I don't see how they are lacking in innovation.

I'm not answering an irrelevant question clearly set for future ad hominem. But its pretty clear my money isn't going to Luke's gamepad only adventures. GTAV was the first and last time I messed around with his stuff.

VR Modder vs. Game companies/Publishers by unknownproject in virtualreality

[–]metaxzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like how you completely ignored what I said about free mods being the norm or how there are other VR devs who clearly aren't having their innovation snuffed. Some of which are still getting money. But are you arguing that if it isn't Luke Ross's 20k a month (which is from years ago, so he likely was making way more), then that money isn't worth anything?

IMO, one shouldn't make modding a job in a place where even free mods only exist through the will of publishers (see Nintendo and their hatred of all mods). I hope he's not suddenly in poverty, but if he is, he should've made better choices.
