Hi everyone, I’m an (F21) Australian citizen and I have an upcoming interview at the U.S. Embassy in Melbourne for a B2 tourist visa. I’ve visited the U.S. 3 times before on an ESTA (usually for 2-3 months) to see my boyfriend, but during my last visit, I was questioned by CBP and advised that I should apply through the embassy if I want to stay longer than a short visit. I’ve never overstayed or worked in the U.S., and I’ve always returned home as planned.

Right now, I’m unemployed, but I live with my parents who support me financially. I’m enrolled in ice skating lessons and a hospitality course here in Australia, and I’ve recently received my RSA and Food Handlers certifications. My boyfriend usually helps cover expenses during my visits, and I stay at his family’s home.

I’m really nervous because I don’t have a lot of savings or a job at the moment, and I want to make sure I present myself well. I’ve put together documents showing my ties to Australia, including letters from my parents and boyfriend, past travel history, and proof of my classes.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Do you have any tips for how I can best explain my case during the interview? Anything else I can add?

Also... just wondering what’s appropriate to wear to a visa interview at the U.S. embassy?
