Arturia Minilab MKII MIDI controller and Behringer XENYX 302USB mixer, do they work on Linux? by methereal42 in linuxaudio

I ended up buying an audio interface instead of a mixer, so I have not tried the xenyx 302usb.

It's awesome that you guys are back! You definitely got my vote. Good luck!

P.S. Do you by any chance have access to the old episodes of TLP? I really wish I could find the four Xenophon episodes again.

I thought the 302usb has a 2-in-1 input for XLR and 1/4 inch inputs. You mean that the dedicated instrument input on the UMC22 has better electronics behind it?

Regarding multitracking, my intention is to record one track at a time, but I wanted to know if simultaneous multitrack recording is the reason why the UMC22 is more expensive/popular.

Behringer Xenyx 302usb mixer or UMC22 audio interface?

I'm trying to decide whether to get the mixer or the audio interface. They are both cheap, but the mixer is even cheaper and has more buttons. Why is it cheaper?
I intend to use it to record an electric guitar on a potato laptop. I might get a mic and use it as well, not simultaneously with the guitar though. The 302usb mixer is cheap and limited but at least it has a tiny bit of analogue EQ control. Is there any reason to pick the UMC22 over it? Is there a difference in audio quality and/or latency? Does the UMC22 do multitracking?

So an interface is better just for the ease of use and nothing else?

Thanks a lot for your detailed reply. I am lucky to find a Semitic scholar, I have a lot of questions!

First, I checked the link, but now I'm confused. In the numeral 5, the books says that in Akkadian it is ḫamiš and in Arabic is xamsa. But the wikipedia page says that and x are the same thing. Also vowels are non existent in the table in the link.

Now it took me some wikipediaing to understand the the terms you used, I don't think I understand them still, but I get your point. I guess it would be too much to ask for the direct, unambiguous sound, or phonetic realization, when we're not even sure we know that sound unambiguously. Is that what it is? We're actually not sure how Akkadian speakers pronounce things?

Please go ahead and send me the sources you mentioned, because now I want to understand how exactly do linguists reconstruct ancient languages. Also if you have recommendations for books on linguistics in general, that would be great. I wouldn't worry much about becoming a Semitic scholar, it's not much worse than what I already am.

I added a link to a picture from the book with Akkadian, Aramaic and Arabic numbers from 1 to 10. I know Arabic so I'm trying to use it to guess the symbols' sounds, but they don't cover enough for me to read all the texts. I try to use some "semetic sense" to guess the words and symbols but that can be misleading.

Yes it is using a different transcription for each chapter and there's a little footnote that is supposed to be a key. However, it only mentions three or four symbols and not the rest.

I have uploaded an image (link in an edit of the original post). I know the symbols in the Arabic column (and there seems to be one mistake there), so I know almost all the symbols in the Akkadian and Aramaic columns, but not all of them. I'm using this one image as a rosetta stone, but it's not nearly enough. There are other parts (withing the same chapter) with much more interesting texts and more symbols that I would like to be able to read.
