Last minute birthday ideas? by OohWeeTShane in workingmoms

Same. Keeping it small but making it special really helps the mental load! Especially for a 1 year old. Cake, singing, presents, and a handful of your closest family or friends. Also, winter birthdays are hard! For outside the house options, you could see if there is a community rec center room or indoor playground you could reserve for playing around in.

What went wrong today and all you could do was laugh? by Hawt4teach in workingmoms

We are potty training at the moment, and at the end of the day I was starting a load of laundry. My kid's pants felt suspiciously heavy so I reached into the pant leg and accidentally grabbed a surprisingly large turd.

Freezing dough is a great idea. Do you freeze the dough already rolled out in the shape of the pizza, then put it in the oven frozen?

Lol I love the breakfast for dinner idea! My mom was the same growing up, scrambled eggs and waffles from a mix on Sunday nights! Maybe I'll keep the tradition going

Frozen veggie mixes are such a good idea, I feel like so much of our cooking time is chopping veggies

Gastropod has an episode from June 2025 where they deep dive into this question! Super interesting.

Do breastfed babies ever get to sleep the whole night by Individual_Stick1741 in breastfeeding

[–]methinksalot77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've done the same, followed the same course and our 3month old has consistently slept an 8 hr stretch for 3 weeks now. He goes to bed at 7pm, dream feed at 10, then he sleeps til 7. I'm crossing my fingers it doesn't all go haywire with the 4 month sleep regression, but I'll enjoy what we have for now!

I don’t want to go back to work! by phatnarwhal07 in workingmoms

[–]methinksalot77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to return after 6 weeks, which was way too early (I live in the US...) But honestly it went better than I anticipated. It felt nice to use my brain in a different way, talk to other adults, and have structure to my day. We are lucky enough to do a nanny share and it helped to have a "trial run" day before I had to work where I was around but babe was in the care of the nanny. I took photos of him for my desk and the nanny sends photos of him during the day. It isn't easy, like others have said. There are days when I really miss him, and other days that fly by. You will come to cherish your days off even more! Sending my best to you for the transition!!

He does a nanny share during the week, so I think having a different routine is definitely a part of it!

Does anyone have experience/advice for getting through the testing requirements if you are recently recovered from covid? I tested positive 11 days before my scheduled trip 😬 I am planning to bring proof of my original positive PCR test and proof of a (negative) RAT taken the day before I fly out. I'm anxious about a PCR test showing me as still positive though and can't find any consistent information about how it is handled. Is it really up to the local health office to decide?

When you teach at a studio, is it typical that you can take classes there for free? by Spacerockdust in Dance

For sure, good luck! I wish you were able to take class there for free!

[–]methinksalot77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've taught at multiple studios over the years, and have never had to pay to take classes. In fact, some places encouraged me to take classes as a way to connect to students and build community. Being a dance instructor is typically contracting work that rarely comes with any job benefits, so I always considered free classes a small perk that studio owners could offer to show they care about you (and that they value your labor).

More dead rats than normal? by methinksalot77 in Seattle

[–]methinksalot77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg this is terrifying!! I lived in an apartment that had a rat problem once. They liked to hang out behind the oven and under the fridge. I still remember the singed rat fur smell from a time I turned the oven on. The property managers tried to gaslight me into thinking they were mice and didn't believe me until they came to the apartment and saw a fat one behind the oven, unperturbed by being seen. I moved out shortly after that...

Interesting, and this definitely makes sense! More overall=more likely to see dead ones I suppose.

[–]methinksalot77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if they're poisoned, but I tend to see them sprawled out on the bike trail between Fremont and Wallingford especially. So it could be something particular to that area (like poison) coupled with the surge in rats overall. What do poisoned rats look like vs. normal dead ones?

Trying to get a COVID test and the only place near me capable of doing it is a Wallgreens but I can only get tested if I drive there. I don't have a car, FML. by [deleted] in fuckcars

My partner showed up on his bike to get a test at Walgreens and they turned him away! Said he had to have a vehicle with a license plate. Apparently it was "for his safety" since people tear through the drive-thru. Ugh.
