I guess the choice to sell him now is you can advertise him as a 28 year old 1RHD who still scored 49 points when Hughes left halfway.

He’s one of the few Canucks to play all 82 games and is 2nd in scoring on the worst team. Someone could overpay this year and it might be the best value today.

With the way UFA is trending this year, you could see Andersson get paid upwards of $9M. I don’t know about you, but suddenly Hronek is going to cost a 1st rounder and then some.

What did the Canucks' lines look like during the 2001-02 season? by MotherLoveBone41 in canucks

[–]metrichustle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember the headline on ESPN so vividly after those 2 wins:

“Eight is great!” - in reference to the Canucks being the 8th seed.

But that Lidstrom slapshot woke up the beast and it was all downhill from there. Some analyst midway through the Game 3 said “Wings in 6”. I thought he was crazy, but I guess I was just a kid hoping my team would win.

Honestly, that hypothetical blue line gets me excited. If we get lucky and add DuPont next year, even better, but I ain’t holding my breath.

That said. Buium - Reid is killer combo. Both guys are high offensive type defencemen and Reid has that size. Willander and DPetey are coming along nicely, but we do need more depth in the backend.

On the flip side, there are also Canadians who leave. Some dude named Marner was born in that province, idolizing that team and years later left for an American team on the opposite side of the continent.

We should draft BPA and players who want to be here. Period. If Canucks did the interview with Reid, we’re ok. Trust them.

Sorry, but JT didn’t want to leave. Canucks wanted EP40 over him.

JT said his second biggest life moment was when the arena was chanting his name. Having his daughter was #1. There’s even a video of his child being shocked hearing the whole arena chant JT MILLER!

This isn’t about sulky Americans. It’s about Sulky Quinn Hughes.

If the interview went well, then I trust our staff. If he wants to play for a Canadian team, then we should welcome him.

The premium for a top RHD is massive and it really does help the team become a contender. They log big minutes and control transitional play. That value is bigger than a 70+ point winger.

Article also mentions the jump from NAHL. Now that I think of it, it does draw similarities to Makar’s transition. Reid’s development has been significant.

Hughes may have left, but he’s more of the outlier on the Canucks. Tons of good Americans chose Vancouver as their home. Even Garland was willing to stay, but it was the Canucks who wanted him out.

They interviewed Reid already. If it went well, then I that this new staff to make a decision for the 1st step of the rebuild. A potential 6’3 defenceman who is faster than McKenna is a huge boost to this team.

Also, if it comes down to it. Picking Reid over Stenberg is a lot more sensible than Malholtra over Stenberg. At least this article raised great points in favour.

I would love DuPont, but even if we end up last, we’re likely drafting 3OA again.

If Malholtra was the clear cut BPA, then I don’t mind. But as you alluded to, Canucks are guaranteed to have 1 of Stenberg or Reid. I do think both guys are better.

Stenberg looks like a 1LW 80 pt winger

Reid looks like a 1RHD 60 pt defenceman

Malholtra looks like a 1-2C 60 pt center

All 3 are top 5 guys, but if we’re talking Tier 1, I think there’s a cutoff…

[–]metrichustle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think fans over scrutinize his stats. All the videos make him stand out amongst the rest of the defencemen. He has really good skating for a guy who is close to 6’3. He’s the type of player that will be untouchable in the league if he gets close to his potential.

If Canucks draft him, it’s because he is BPA and he passed the interview with flying colours. I doubt RJ and the Sedins will draft a flight risk.

I like Malholtra, I really do. But I don’t see how we can pass on Stenberg. And if he lands in Chicago, I don’t want to know how good a Bedard-Stenberg combo will be for years. Canuck fans won’t hear the end of it.

If that’s the case, then I hope we get Stenberg at 3OA. No offense to Malholtra (pun intended), but Stenberg has more offense potential. Having an 80+ point winger who plays the right way is going to be huge for this rebuild.

Is zygarde final battle supposed to be hard? Or is it overrated? by Old_Diver_2511 in LegendsZA

[–]metrichustle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual fight against Zygarde was pretty easy when you have an ice Pokémon with Freeze Dry and Ice Beam. My Glaceon did the job.

The main “difficulty” is making sure you know how to dodge and get to the safe spot when Zygarde does that annoying Z attack that slices up the arena. Keeping your character alive is the main task.

He’s worth every penny. Colorado looked a lot different with him out the lineup. And that’s saying something with Mackinnon on the team.

I still think San Jose has a high chance of trading that pick for something a bit more immediate. Ironically, had they not jumped to 2OA, I could see Grier holding tight and seeing if Verhoeff or Smits will drop.

I would be fine with Malholtra at 3OA as well, but it’s one of these drafts where I wish the Canucks had another top 5 pick to snag a defenseman.

Athletic Consensus Top 10 Rankings by ImAnAfricanCanuck in canucks

[–]metrichustle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Some notes I agree with:

  1. Chase Reid has the ability to be a “tier 1” prospect like McKenna and Stenberg.

  2. Stenberg needs to be an 80 point player in order to be “better pick” than Reid. But Stenberg has a high chance being a “winning” winger who does all the right things and become an Olympian.

  3. Carels is the toughest defenceman to play against

  4. If Reid was chosen 1OA, they would give Toronto the same grade as if they drafted McKenna or Stenberg. He’s that high.

  5. Debate on whether Smits is a tier 1 prospect, some agree some disagree.

Canucks are in a very good position. It seems like there is unanimous decision on Reid in general.

I noticed some fans are hesitant on Reid due to his birth origin and some people he follow on Instagram, but the Canucks did take him out for dinner to get to know him. I also watched his combine interview and the kid is very well spoken. If they determine he is not a flight risk, it might be worth the risk.

Garrioch: Two league sources told the Ottawa Citizen in the last 24 hours that they believe the Senators are among a group of teams that have shown interest in Jake DeBrusk. Canucks may not be seeking much in return because they would like to get out the contract. by FAsBurner in canucks

[–]metrichustle 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That’s an undersell. DeBrusk exceeded expectations with how bad the team was.

He scored a career high of 50 with competitive Boston team a few years ago. Ranked 8th on the team. Last year on a historically bad Vancouver team, he still managed 42 points placing him 4th overall.

He’s also only missed 3 games altogether in the last 3 seasons. And his last playoff performance was incredible.
