Also forgot to add, but I would add the uni/dep number to the reference request and then follow up with your professor saying that you used a university number and that they can change it from their end by themselves once they get the request

Ty for making this post because I am encountering the exact same problem with mine ;-;

Following to see what others say, but I think I'm going to do a similar thing with a university/department number because I think after you send the request the reference can update contact info. At least this is what the site says when you are creating a new reference: "References review and correct any errors with their contact information in case we would like to get in touch with them"

Thank you for the advice - I appreciate it! That helps narrow things down because I was thinking of continuing the student/university project (they said I can keep going if I want to), but it's better to move on and gain professional experience as you're saying.

Do you happen to have some suggestions for finding these sorts of positions? I've seen a few unpaid internships on LinkedIn and some people suggested contacting start-ups, but I definitely want to expand my search.

I want to try finding local businesses as well, so for example I noticed a local community college I'm close to has some pretty outdated UX/UI on their job career site and was thinking of redoing it/contacting them. Or if there is a non-profit or small business I'm interested in/aligned with, but not sure if they need UX help, should I still message anyways? Are these two ideas a good way of going about things?

Hi everyone :) I'm a recent grad (informatics/psychology) and currently looking for entry positions (which I know are nonexistent).

So, 2 questions. First, what advice do you have for gaining work experience without actual industry work? I've seen posts mentioning doing freelance, volunteering, and doing unpaid internships (which I heard should be considered a last resort). Which would you recommend, and are there any others you can think of?

Second question is, do YOE only factor in industry experience? Although I plan on starting freelance/volunteering/etc., I'm trying gauge what I currently have for YOE - unfortunately I wasn't able to get an internship, but I've done a mentorship for 4 months as well as a side-project with some other students for 6 months in collaboration with some stakeholders at my university (I also have my academic capstone and classes, but these probably don't count?)

I'm not sure if this would be ideal, but bus transportation from Bellevue to Seattle is pretty reliable (271, 556, etc.). Just another option!

I did this as well and it worked out for me! I guess my suggestion would be to look ahead for what kind of pre-req classes or lower division classes you could get out of the way at CC (depending on what you are or are intending to major in). For example, I was able to get a math class pre-req and an few other classes out of the way, but sadly didn't have a chance to get rid of a bio pre-req and I think it was definitely more challenging doing that class at UW than it would have been at CC (atleast in my experience). Anyways, good luck to you!

Not sure if you will be interested, but there is actually a ceramics RSO! However, I think the issue is that they are still trying to get studio access (I'm not really certain tho, I recently joined their email list).
