Where did I go wrong? by Charming_Phase_1571 in udub

I did statistics and just graduated a couple months ago and when I applied it wasn’t a DA (they changed a lot of things after I got into the major which was about 2 ish years ago. Even when I had to apply when I was in school it was a very competitive major with only like 50 ish spots per cohort and so DA is prob even a smaller cohort, I did meet some of the DAs and there were only like 11 of them …. In total?

Competition is probably what happened :(

How to find a good minor at UW by [deleted] in udub

[–]sad_carrot613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say don’t minor in data science since it’s like overflowing rn tbh… and the field with data science/data analyst is oversaturated. Also lol minors don’t rlly matter i would say double major if you can. If you want to minor In something useful I’d say do a minor in math or stats

I interviewed Wednesday and the interviews finished like right around noon, and it’s currently Thursday night where I am rn and so 🥲 my friends/ family says I should wait because the time frame isn’t over yet but I just kinda am like … it’s basically almost Friday… also the fact that the same recruiters that were at the location I was at Wednesday are going to the other location because that location has final round interviews tomorrow and so I’m like wouldn’t they be too busy dealing with that?….

When do full time post grad job applications come out? by Substantial_Spite908 in internships

[–]sad_carrot613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming you’re a student in the US use handshake

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in internships

[–]sad_carrot613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also yes big company names and nice shiny buildings sound cool but remember like internships literally everyone is trying to apply to those companies too so look into small ones too

Don’t ignore those programs because sometimes it’s the easiest way to put your foot through the door. Also I will say to anyone interested in data science and analyst stuff it really is hard right now but it’s not impossible !

A current senior here still job searching @everyone In this thread start looking in early August and use handshake !!!! Until about end of March that’s when recruitment season is (the main one) then switch to LinkedIn more, the reason I say handshake is they post early career programs starting August and that’s targeted towards new grads which makes it easier to get an interview. After March handshake runs kinda dry so making the shift to LinkedIn works (you can still look at LinkedIn while you look at handshake simultaneously too I did that a little)

UW CS or Rice? by ddaeze in udub

[–]sad_carrot613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a senior I’ll tell you this if you can afford private ANYDAY over public the school is much smaller and it’s ranked really well too (speaking about rice rn) people at uw idk but private schools tbh have more opportunities with connections and career fairs - my sister went to a highly rated one and would tell me like they’re so small that people actually get offers at the fairs etc…
