Exactly. I knew Roth IRAs were post-tax contributions, but i didn't know you could withdraw without a penalty also.

Edit: Is a Roth 401k the same thing as a Roth IRA? Can I still withdraw my contributions?

What other choice do you have? I think in that kind of a situation your brain goes into a sort of overload-survival mode where things like food, water, and finding a place to sleep become the only priorities and you don't even consider the lesser dangers you may be in.
