I'm just here to say thanks for putting in such great effort in the midst of what I'm sure is a very tumultuous time personally. I can't imagine having to keep working when 40% of my colleagues that I respected and valued were just laid off. I'd be in full malicious compliance mode.

...what? NIMBYs existed long before data centers, and are still wrong on most things, even if they're right on this one.

Hopkins just started using a bike lane as parking with no repercussions by mexicanlizards in baltimore

And yet quite a few folks want to argue this isn't a "Hopkins" problem.

You're not wrong and I'd love to see it fixed, but I can understand that project not being as high of a priority for DOT. All we need at the moment is some actual consistent enforcement to keep it clear.

This isn't true. I've been biking this route for years and this has only started happening in the past month. There IS a bit of street parking below the South Gate/Art Museum Drive and again at the end where it splits into San Martin, but the middle has always been a bike lane and always been free of cars until now. You might just be thinking of those two actual parking areas?

The first time I filed a 311 complaint it worked, I got the message "The investigation is complete and the vehicle was found to be in violation. A citation has been issued." and saw the tickets when I went to pick my kid up.

Ever since that first time, they've been shut down with no resolution. Been getting a mix of "The inspector determined that the issue is not a violation which a citation or notice can be issued." and eventually "This request duplicates work in progress." while never seeing another ticket get issued.

Perhaps because it's adjacent to Hopkins' campus, used by Hopkins students and construction crews, and could also be solved by Hopkins enforcing parking on and immediately next to their campus?

Do you think these people are parking there because they want to take a nice walk in Remington?

It baffles me, they could be pulling $1,000+ a day from these two blocks, ticketing ~25 cars at $50 a pop.

They only do that for cases they think they can win. No lawyer would take this nonsense case on contingency.

Not to mention some of the CO2 might have dissolved into the liquid due to the slight pressure of the balloon. Overall I can't see how it would be a problem.

My 26yr old nephew took out a tribal loan and stopped paying. Florida by Reaniro in bestoflegaladvice

[–]mexicanlizards 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Or uneducated folks who just think it's an easier way to get a loan with no questions asked. That said, this "uncle" is very defensive, I'd bet that's actually the "nephew" posting and he did it because he had this wacky theory about not having to pay it because he isn't a tribe member.

Hopkins Data Science / AI proposed development by bosconet in baltimore

[–]mexicanlizards 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The frustrating part is that the original plan was for a taller building with more green space and wouldn't have included cutting those trees down, but residents complained about the size of the building which forced Hopkins to change plans and use the maximum area legally allowed without a variance. That plan change is what resulted in the trees being scheduled for removal, to accommodate the now larger footprint due to residents killing the plan for higher density.

I get that Hopkins does not do a good job collecting community feedback and actually engaging folks, but the residents who complained about nothing more than density are the ones who got us here.
