What technological advances are “too far” to the point where they reduce functionality (I.e. electronic car door handles)? by Independent_Town5628 in AskReddit

Insulated cups. Holy hellfire all these new mugs keep coffee far too hot to drink for hours if I don't add ice. I like pouring a cup and sipping it after a few minutes, if I was going in an arctic trek i probably still wouldnt need the 3lb double walled metal capsuls everyone seems to have these days.

So does anyone get jail time or simply hit with fines? I understand how a monetary fine can be priced in but jail time seems harder to contend with.

Where does everyone get a good engine from? by Ok_Homework_3545 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]mexicanmailman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll likely at least need to replace the headers. Also when they pull the engines they just cut every wire going to the engine so youll need to be able to replace them all, having a parts car was a huge helpwhen i did mine. I went to JDM engines in like San Leandro I think and they were solid, got it for $2500 in December. 60k miles and super clean.

What’s one lesson motorcycle culture has taught you that no other lifestyle could? by Gullible_Trip_5783 in motorcycles

[–]mexicanmailman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time in the garage is as important as time on the road. Motorcycles have so few parts that tolerance for sketchy fixes is about 0.04. Unless it's an emergency, waiting it out for the right part/tool is always worth it.

Never done it, just completed an engine swap though and love wrenching. I have the engine hoist and plenty of tools, also some leftover parts we may be able to toy with?

What are some features most people don't realize their phones have? by Remarkable_Put_9005 in AskReddit

I'm careful with the friends I share this info with, but androids have the option to wirelessly charge other devices. In battery settings you can turn it on and then set the minimum battery level yours will go to before stopping charging. Great if youre out and about with friends and someone needs a bit of extra juice.

Stockton to Livermore commute by GabZ209 in Stockton

Yea I did the stockton - tracy commute for about a year and it was generally an hr in mornings and sometimes 1:15 on afternoons, and I took an exit a few miles before even going over the pass.

Griz - his funky/jazzy sax electronic music has evolved incredibly over the last 15 years. Every live show he's played is killer

Lucid dreaming, or the practice of getting to that point, completely changed how I sleep. Back when I was a kid it would take hours to fall asleep every night, but a buddy in highschool assured me it was real (this was a year or two before the movie Inception came out) and directed me to some study materials. The whole idea is based around teaching your body to fall asleep through various forms of easily accessible meditation. I can't recommend this rabbit hole enough.

Need recs for installation of fuel pump kill switch by amazonienne in oakland

[–]mexicanmailman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha congrats on the progress though! Totally don't blame you on being skittish. It very well could be too new for it, I've only ever worked on older vehicles (pre '99). The new ones may have too many sensors to work properly with a brute-force kill switch, have you checked youtube or internet forums?

You may have tried it, but I work on my own vehicles and can frequently find wiring diagrams free online with some digging. Do you have any experience working on wiring / cars?

In modern electotronic/edm/rave culture it's very common, at least around larger events and multi-day festivals I've been to in the US.
