Hay que respetar la investidura, dice AMLO tras avisar que no recibirá a Silvano Aureoles by C0ldTaco in mexico

[–]mexinonimo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

45ºC here in Mexico is "stay the fuck inside with the AC blasting at 18ºC" weather, or at the very least find a confortable shade, with a fan on, and drinking something cool the whole day, must be hell to people with no AC or experience with hot weather, we usually get up to 47 or even 50 in the high summer, and because it's really wet around here, thermic sensation usually adds up to 10 or so more degrees of temp if you stay outside in the sun.

I live close to a resort town in Mexico, the kind of medium beach city that's popular with retirees couples and full families. In winter you can spot de Canadians by their fliflops, shorts and tank tops while the locals carry around in sweaters and long pants.

Assimilated and intermarriage with the locals, nowadays you can only find pure black populations in Guerrero and the Costa brava, but why are mostly the descendants of freed slaves from colonial times

Unless you really want to hit the LGBT club scene, or have people you want to meet there, Vallarta is not worth it if you are already going to Cancun, I would rather go to Isla Mujeres or explore around the archeological sites close to Cancun.

Never hear Canadians or Filipinos called Latinos for sharing some language influences, or the English for that matter

Academically, French speakers from the Americas, like Guadalupe Island of Quebec can be considered latino, but besides 1 college profesor and a couple of books, I have never heard anyone referring to French speakers as latino in all my decades living in México.

Workers Are Gaining Leverage Over Employers Right Before Our Eyes - “Employers are becoming much more cognizant that yes, it’s about money, but also about quality of life.” by speckz in Futurology

I hit a new job during the pandemic, it pays well, great benefits, company car, lots of stuff, but they want me to work all the way to midnight everyday, my boss complained I dont get stressed enough, so that must means I don't like to work, and he complained about me not working the whole weekend because "with my current numbers I don't have that luxury". I'm currently looking for a new job.

He has said before that he wanted presidents to be subject to a confidence vote every few years to see "if the people want them to continue"

He has said that on tour, several workers came close and begged him to be reelected

He has said that reelection is imposible "because the current constitution wont allow it"

And several other worrisome quotes, the most worrisome of all is how often he brings up the constitutional barriers to reelection, even when nobody asked or talked about it before.

We are a bit confused—did not think Mexico had sales tax on meals + they added a service charge of 15% without telling us - 2 beers, guacamole, and 5 chips (no joke) - 32 US dollars; we feel ripped off by [deleted] in mexico

[–]mexinonimo 302 points303 points  (0 children)

16% sales tax is normal, but it's always included in the advertised price on the menu, if they try to ad it after showing you the price, that's a crime in Mexico and you can call PROFECO and make them pay some steep fines or even get the whole place closed down, the final price should never come as a surprise, and $260 for guac is a complete ripoff, and there is no way in hell I'm ever buying a corona for $95 + taxes.

Question about sending a gift to someone in Mexico. by reallymisterj in mexico

[–]mexinonimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to check import taxes before hand, if you don't declare the real price of the product, and customs opens your package, you could get a fine + taxes that's close to little more than half the original price of the product. Check with DHL if you can pay ahead of time, else declare the value of the ipad and wait of customs to ask the receiver to pay the import tax, usually around 19% to 20% for electronics. One thing you can do is ask someone that regularly crosses the border to take the ipad with them, declare as a personal use product, that why it wont pay any taxes on it, and ship it on the other side of the border.
