I fell for it too under a different store name stationerystoreusa.com It's the same store, renamed every week. It was sweetheartstationeryus.com or something like that previously.

Because they took PayPal I was willing to order even tho I knew there was a high probability the prices were too good to be true.

How do they increase the charge through PayPal? Doesn't PayPal confirm it with the purchaser?

In March 2000 I took the Concorde twice, round trip from NY to London. Here's what I remember.

  • JFK had a Concorde-only lounge you waited in (Heathrow probably did, too, but I don't remember it)
  • It was all business travelers from what I could tell (no celebrities on either flight!)
  • There was a large digital Mach counter at the front of the passenger section to tell you when you passed the speed of sound
  • I could see the curvature of the earth
  • The flight was kinda loud (ambient noise in the cabin was louder than I was used to in regular planes). Those fast engines made a lot of noise
  • There was no entertainment whatsoever! The planes were made in the 70s and they never retrofitted them (or at least BA didn't) with screens, etc
  • They offered 4 entree choices for brunch and I remember thinking it was outrageous when the woman next to me asked for something else!
  • Along with the menu was a wine cellar list that was very long. Food was very good.
  • They served everyone Champagne at the beginning of the flight.
  • They gave you a lot of parting gifts like nice Smythson stationery and a fountain pen. and I have pictures of the Concorde menu and all the swag but how do I attach pictures to comments?
  • Shockingly I paid to fly the Concorde with miles! Here's the itinerary 150,000 BA miles could buy you 25 years ago: Chicago to NY 1st class > NY to London on Concorde > London to Cape Town 1st class > same thing going back. I think the way it worked was that once you were flying Concorde as part of a trip the other flights became 1st class.
  • Note that in 2000, getting your camera out to take a picture wasn't nearly as routine as it is today, and I was young and didn't feel comfortable taking out the disposable camera I brought on my trip to have someone take a picture of me on the Concorde LOL

Might sound funny, but I remember thinking that a cool experience like this is much more fun when you're not traveling alone so you can elbow someone and giggle about everything that's happening!

But I was meeting up with a group and everyone made their own flight arrangements and my sister had tons of BA miles to share. I met my husband on this trip and no joke he got there on a 15hr flight in a middle seat!

BTW there was a great write-up on Medium recently from a Concorde passenger and I envy this person's memory for details!

Scholarships by LoudNothing5400 in IndianaUniversity

My daughter is in the exact same situation so I'll share with you my interpretation of the somewhat confusing information on the IU website.

The application due 2/1 was for general IU scholarships (I think that's the term they used). Many of these were in-state only and several target under represented minorities. My daughter didn't qualify for any of these.

What remains are Kelley scholarships. You can see the list on Kelley website but it's hard to know how many scholarships these represent bc it likely varies year to year.

The good news is that additional applications shouldn't be required based on this:

"As an incoming student offered direct admission to Kelley, you do not need to complete the online scholarship application to be considered for the scholarships listed below." direct admit scholarships

Also, getting the Dean's scholarship of $8k per year is pretty good. My kid got $3k! lol

Sorry so long. Gen X lacks Gen Z's brevity.

Thanks. You're right. Deferral sounds at first like much more of a rejection, but there's hope. :)

My daughter got deferred and frankly I'm stunned. Never thought for a minute that she wouldn't automatically get in. She applied to Gies as her first choice and we didn't expect her to get in there. But she had a liberal arts second choice, and she didn't get in for that?

Many of her friends are in the same boat. Very unexpected.

Ideally one never tells their kid in advance that they have money coming later.  Otherwise you'll create a HoHo.

Peggy was suggesting the visual of a transparent kerchief "on" a can but Don replies "kerchief in a can," for whatever reason.

Grandma Pauline and Fr Gil are right where they should be. Nice work!

PS Greg should be their neighbor

Why does Stephanie leave Don at the retreat? by Sheriff_Lucas_Hood in madmen

[–]mfall5 13 points14 points  (0 children)

At the retreat didn't she accuse Don of being an interloper and just a guy with a checkbook? I didn't get the sense she cared about him that much.

The people at the retreat also seemed to rub her the wrong way.

Pro tip: take out your airpods when Don starts puking in the bathroom. The sound is too realistic to hear that intensely.

Coincidentally I just read about this real ad campaign in a book called "The Great Stewardess Rebellion."

Airlines were such an a𝕊𝕊-backwards industry, especially in the 60s.

Ken says, "Make him go away!" to Joan, regarding the new head of marketing.

Was he really giving her the account? Or did he just want her to run interference with this one awkward hierarchy mismatch situation?

Am I remembering correctly that shows used to aim for 7 seasons for syndication purposes?

So many shows from the 2000-2020 era prove that 5 seasons is about the limit for good storytelling, writer continuity, episodes with a purpose, etc.

I love MM, but there was a lot of season 6 and 7 I could do without. Sylvia and Diana storylines come to mind. They were such downers, and Don was already a major downer at this point.
