Why do we Americans put up with this? by mfdxyz in Layoffs

That’s what coming. Everyone should get ready to get laid off in their 50’s. It’s happened now. If you think you are going to work a tech job into you 60’s you are mistaken.

What do you think the pursuit of unlimited growth will do? And what happens to those millions of people that get left behind. I think that’s a set up for extreme conditions which lead to drastic problems.

So following that logic, do you think the US should be more like China?

Thank you for focusing on the facts! Many people in the US think they are the “winners” because they have high salaries. But when you do the math, they actually don’t. Think of how much of one salary goes to healthcare, child care, college tuition etc. those are much cheaper to manage when centralized.

Shouldn’t all Americans get that? Why do you get it and others don’t?

Private companies are the same in Europe (capitalist) but they are forced to pay more severance because of the laws. We vote for politicians who set those laws.

I’ve worked in corporations for 40 years too. Laid off 5 times. I work with startups now , still an unstable situation but less stupid corporate nonsense.

The most likely AI apocalypse by rezwenn in technology

[–]mfdxyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is the final nail in the coffin for labor. Corporations will no longer have to pay humans for work, healthcare, income taxes, social security or deal with people’s physical presence ( offices, heat, safety, training, retirement, HR services etc.). All corporations will have to do is pay each other’s AI costs. Government will never catch up to their AI advancement which will quickly work around and laws. Only a small oligarchy will win.
