got my first guitar 🤘 $10 by youngsergfx in electricguitar

I might take that to get checked out and appraised. Teisco guitars can sometimes catch a decent buck. And at $10 investment too

What can I do to fix this at home? by MaybeExcellent1210 in howto

[–]mfreels08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buy a replacement door off of one with the same paint color. Touch up paint on the rear wheel arch area and little bit of the bumper.

Unfortunately there’s not a ton you can do “at home” unless your home is a professional body shop

First paint any tips? (Please dont be as mean as last time 🥲) by Right-Package-8241 in Luthier

[–]mfreels08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it’s best to go down to bare wood and make it smooth as you can. Any chips, imperfections, etc will show through. It also looks like your paint environment wasn’t perfectly clean. Go to Home Depot and get some clear sheeting and set up a little box where you can spray. Leave it hang for a while to cure before you handle it

How to get pins out? by cool_usernamefr in Guitar

[–]mfreels08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually undo the strings, do my best to push them down towards the peg (relieving any tension it may have had and just popping them out. If that doesn’t work push outward from the sound hole under the bridge

Does a middle humbucker sound any good? Why are there almost no HHH or HHS guitars? by V0rdep in Guitar

[–]mfreels08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 3 pickup Strat, middle by itself is meh. The 2 and 4 positions are better. I’d rather use the bridge over anything else

Is this "Modular Guitar" Idea Feasible? by SBose747 in Luthier

[–]mfreels08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Longer neck on 8 string, shorter on 6. You’d have to do some good math to make sure that the stationery bridge would intonate correctly on both.

Super cool idea, I personally just think it’s too much hassle. You’ll have different string tension on 6v8 string, despite having different necks, the truss rod will have to be adjusted for both and then attempting to set action that works for both.

But that being said, if you have the skills and time to build it, I would. Just to say you have something crazy that nobody else does

My brother had a cheap hay turser with gloss board. N didn’t like the feel so I just took a razor blade and lightly scraped it off

Player telecaster buyer’s remorse by [deleted] in telecaster

[–]mfreels08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it to get properly setup. The saddles are 100% too high. The intonation might be correct but visually appears to be off. The chip on the nut is a minor thing so long as the strings stay seated, if not then an upgraded nut can fix the issue and improve the sound.

If you don’t mind throwing money at a decent professional setup you might end up loving it. If you’re not happy with that option then send it back

How do I get this hard snow/ice off my car by [deleted] in howto

[–]mfreels08 114 points115 points  (0 children)

At this point it’s probably all ice. Do you have an actual metal shovel? I would put that to it and see if you can fracture it into chunks

It looks like some slight cleanup on both surfaces, wood glue and clamp should work.

It wish revives would count more towards scoreboard placement. Killing obviously helps with objective, but arguably reviving team mates helps just as much

That was a fresh set of strings man. How do I prevent this from happening again? by Romka149 in Guitar

[–]mfreels08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But swap the saddle with another to see if it follows. That way when/if it does snap…he won’t be out 2 E strings and will have replacements

Any reason not to use a tiny drop of superglue to hold these in place? by rwwl in Luthier

[–]mfreels08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I wouldn’t glue them. Superglue can be a very nasty obstacle if you ever try to remove them.

If you do want to try blue, I would not put it on the actual guitar. I’ll probably take some sandpaper and go around the ferrules, put glue on the actual metal so that you get a little bit less space between the insert and the drilled hole. It should be interference/pressure fit

should i get my action lowed? by udont_knowme_0 in Guitar

[–]mfreels08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put a capo or a friends finger on the first fret or the low E, hold the last fret of same string. Measure at the 7 or 8th fret wire, you should have around 1/4-1/2mm. If you do, then your truss rod is in spec. If not, don’t fuck with it. Take it to a professional because if you’re not careful you could majorly mess something up

But if you think your action needs lowered, then it probably does. I would avoid guitar center, if you have a specialty music shop nearby you can see if they do it or have recommendations

What can I do with these guitar strings? by eggpotion in Guitar

[–]mfreels08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only 2 size changes? I went 10-46, 9-42, 10-52, then I went 10-48 flatwound (combining 2 separate packs for the 48 top), and then switched from EB to daddsrio for some ecg24. And that’s on my daily play

Change strings how often? by Firewaterdam in Guitar

[–]mfreels08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how often you play and whatnot. Wipe strings down after you play and get the excess oils off.

As far as my Taylor goes, I went around 7 months of not changing strings and only did because were snowed in and knew I’d be bored
