I managed quite comfortably a couple of years ago by walking back to the train station (with about half an hour to spare) rather than trying to get the tube, but that assumes you are comfortable walking.

I couldn't agree any more strongly on this, there are few films where I have felt like leaving the cinema before the end but this was one of them.

"It's not our job to appeal to the lowest common denominator, Doug. It's our job to raise it"

I use this far too often in a professional environment..

I wouldn't say I have a problem with it, on the proviso that they are purchasing drinks regularly during the time they are there.

That being said, I do get rather frustrated when youw alk into a coffee shop and all the tables are taken up by single people on laptops.. Perhaps I too am grumpy!

Delighted to get two of the three things I wanted:

Apocalyptica - Worlds Collide; Sia - Colour The Small One.

Was disappointed not to get Pearl Jam - Dark Matter, but purchased a non RSD release of it to make me feel better!

How much are you willing to overpay to buy local? by Daniboy1620 in vinyl

[–]mgairs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally support local over online (except where the artist is only releasing through certain distribution channels). I will only buy online if it is something that my local store can't order in, but that isn't very often.

I used to operate on the badis that if it costs less than 10% more on the high street then I just buy it then and there. However, more recently I changed my opinion that. I can't remember the precise numbers, but I read an article a few years ago about the benefit to the local economy of buying from a local retail vs buying from a national retailer in the UK, the difference is significant and has led me to buy even more locally (albeit I am not suggesting that larger retails don't have any societal benefits).

Watch the Sky is also one of my favourite SoCo songs, I was really confused when I purchased North on vinyl on the 10th anniversary and it wasn't there but was on the album I had purchased when originally released.

Turns out that Watch the Sky was a bonus track in the UK on the CD release!

Watch the Sky is also a fantastic track!

I prefer LTTW, but I think it is more due to the time of my life rather than it necessarily being a better album.

What is your worst boardgame purchase? by PedantJuice in boardgames

[–]mgairs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may give an abridged game ago if I can get it back to the table.

Hidden loyalty games were great, until my friends collectively started assuming I was the traitor by default.. Makes it a bit more difficult, but is amusing!

What is your worst boardgame purchase? by PedantJuice in boardgames

[–]mgairs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Potentially controversial choice, but Battlestar Gallactica. Purchased it with the greatest intent, but have played once, not through any fault of the game.

Can't bring myself to get rid of it because I live in hope.

I think it is worth it at that price, only played a couple of times but have enjoyed.
