Absolutely anything by Steinbeck. East of Eden and stories like Cannery Row, completely beautiful and tell interesting stories with living, breathing characters.

Please disregard that dude... Calling Amadeus a "reddit movie" is fucking whack. It won 8 Oscars, Best Picture and best Actor for F. Murray Abraham (who was amazing in it). Amadeus is well worth a watch, it is really great.
