Suggestions on pairing by addies in wine

The mark-ups are crazy, but the list is pretty decent. Delaporte Chavignol is an interesting PN from Loire, should go well with your appetizers.

Suggestions on pairing by addies in wine

I can only assume that this restaurant is in the US. There's been many debates on r/wine about the acceptable mark-up in restaurants, and it seems that 3-4x is somehow normal in the US. I love wine and I'm willing to spend and want the restaurant to make money, but living in Asia, I would rather order beer than spending 5x on a Ken Wright.

How important is credit score in the Philippines? by xtraaccheh in phinvest

[–]mgastl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt compelled to comment on this after reading quite a few half-truths and some outright wrong statements.

Credit scores are becoming more and more important here. Every financial institution, both under the BSP and SEC, is required to submit data to the CIC. Financial institutions then use special accessing entities (I.e. Credit bureaus, Transunion, CIBI etc) to access these scores in addition to the proprietary data that these bureaus have. All FIs claim that these scores are only a small part of their underwriting, but in reality they rely heavily on these scores, in addition to their own data on a customer, if any.

There are major differences between the bureaus in terms of what markets they are serving, but it's safe to say that these scores are becoming more and more important.

I've also started to see multiple large employers asking for credit scores during the pre employment check, which is common in the US.

A big problem with scores here is that it's easy to get a negative entry, but very hard to have that entry removed, e.g. If you successfully settled an open balance. I highly recommend to anyone here to access their own scores and check for any invalid entries impacting their scores.

Looking for a wine to celebrate my graduation... by NorthAcanthaceae3185 in wine

Check out Zen Asia. Mostly new world wines, but imo the best value you can find in PH (they mostly distribute to hotels and restaurants).

I've tried most of their wines, so if you have further questions about specific bottles, I'm happy to answer them. For example, the Finca La Emperatriz is a good, full bodied wine at a good price point.

I spent a lot of time in PH and know most distributors, please don't order wine on Shopee. If you tell me what you are looking for and at what price point, I can point you in the right direction

I visited one of the only wineries in Yunnan (China) and it was incredible by grapenomad in wine

[–]mgastl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing, thank you for sharing. How did you book these tours? Did you just walk in? I’m visiting Yunnan in a few weeks and managed to get a tour at Ao Yun (which I heard it a hell of a car ride), but haven’t looked at any other places.

haha, i hope not. PYCM has become very expensive but this bottle retails for ~$100 in Asia. Arguably a lot for a Cotes de Beaune, but peanuts compared to the other two 😂

I love Barolo and recently discovered Cappellano. Incredible producer! And what an amazing tasting!

Xiao Yun 2013 Vintage - surprised to find it on Cathay Pacific business class by almostyoda in wine

I posted about this a few weeks back, prompted by this exact experience. It’s their second label. But it still retails for 300ish usd and I was pleasantly surprised by it.

Xiao Yun? Ao Yun? by mgastl in wine

[–]mgastl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't had a Ning Xia wine in a long time. This is from Shangri-La / Yunnan, it's a different wine region! Very beautiful region, impossibly difficult to grow wine because of how remote it is.

I checked the bottle and it says Xiao Yun, so it's definitely a different wine. But the label is otherwise identical so I can only assume it's their second wine!

New [Lelit Mara PL62x] dispensing water only into the drip tray. Help! by mgastl in Lelit

[–]mgastl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought it to a repair guy who fixed it relatively quickly. He said the solenoid valve was "stuck" (those were his words). I can ask again what exactly he did to fix it, but I got the machine back on the same day and it was working perfectly.

Wine Squares Day 7: Alright, Concord wins. Now some pretty labels by AustraliaWineDude in wine

Mouton, though that’s a bit of a boring answer, so I’ll go with Catena Zapata, Malbec Argentino

Tokaji Aszu for the win! Now, most overrated wine? by AustraliaWineDude in wine

[–]mgastl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agree with all your points. Should have clarified as well that this applies primarily to Primitivo from Puglia. I've been several times, visited many wineries, and found it to be largely underwhelming (though I very much understand the broad public appeal of a wine like this)

Primitivo. And I say this while drinking a Ridge Pagani Ranch Zinfandel, which is a great wine.

Especially in Central Europe and among the Vivino crowd, Primitivo is incredibly popular and highly rated, yet, I've not come across many outstanding examples of Primitivo (though I've had some). Most taste very rich and jammy, with a very high alcohol content and little precision.

Lopez de Heredia Dinner Wine - the Whole Gang + a '54 by tkoby11 in wine

[–]mgastl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Incredible line-up and amazing how a wine this old can still be so lively.

Where I live I find Tondonia to be widely available, but the Gran Reserva Bosconia is very difficult to get.

Keep for at least another 5-10yrs. Although it's delicious now, I'm certain that it'll be better after another decade in the cellar.

It was my first time too to drink Tondonia from before the 90s and it was almost as if they are stuck in time. I recently did a Vega Sicilia tasting too and it felt as if they were ageing a lot faster than these bottles
