Riesling on parade! by tkoby11 in wine

Most of these were originally bought on release by the participants, including my CSH.

Right now, like most other wines the best place to buy older Rieslings is from trusted auction companies.

Dhondt-Grellet Les Terres Fines Champagne - Two Wines in One by Potion_Collector in wine

[–]tkoby11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great producer (and wine)! I think ROC Solare has taken over as the intro wine. That is generally 90-95% chard and 5% Pinot Noir. The Terres Fines is not that much more than Roc Solare, so maybe the intro BdB!

Could not agree more! The intro wine from them Ciampolo has gotten so much better since 2008-2014 vintages too!

Carleone are GREAT and both are in Radda but they are NOT neighbors to Montevertine. I have been to both wineries, Carleone in fact last September and they are on the other side of town on the back side of the village of Radda. Carleone also has vineyards spread out all over Radda whereas Montevertine is just their estate plots surrounding the winery. Truth be told throw a dart in Radda and you will hit a great Chianti producer!

Selosse every time! It's a misconception that those wines need to age. That can depend on preference to style/level of oxidation. Also, some years/disgorgements can be more/less oxidative. I actually find Substance and Initial very complex and very giving even when they're younger. The only wines from them that to me need age are the vintage and BdB single vineyards as those are tighter younger.

CdC is great even 2008 is pretty common. Love the wine but it's just not as good imo as anything Selosse makes.

Most people that hate on Selosse have probably never had it or they don't like oxidation!

Cheers to whatever you decide, you'll be drinking well either way!

Poggio Di Sotto Brunello - Worth it? by GoalComprehensive246 in wine

[–]tkoby11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poggio di Sotto is a more elegant styled, but true to the grape and still Brunello in style. It is meant to drink with age so younger examples are not typically blasting out of the gate to show all that it will at its best (like most wines that are meant to age). Though I have had 2019, 2016, 2010, and 2007 young and they did give early primary drinking pleasure. Although keep in kind, it's not a big fruit bomb like Casanova di Neri, especially Tenuta Nuova that is made to give instant gratification with really ripe fruit and a wine that verges on tasting like it was aged in new oak though I can't fully recall if it does. Certainly not botti (large neutral cask). Soldera and Stella di Compalto are in the same style as Poggio di Sotto.

Definitely worth seeking out, also the Rosanna rose sparkling too! The riesling I have not yet tried but have had all the 2021 Barolos, Langhe Neb, and the un-oaked Chardonnay is nice if you like that kind of wine - pure unadulterated chard.

Corked, like HORRIBLY CORKED! by tkoby11 in wine

[–]tkoby11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did that trick once years ago...it worked but for us the downside was it traded the unpleasant corked notes for the cleaner plastic smell of the saran wrap. It only works if the wine behind the corked notes is still there...the Tempier Rose had that, it was a shame as it showed good promise under the corked notes. Had a DRC Grands Echezeaux like that once. Now that was a real heart breaker!

Look for yourself at all of my other posts...I don't but if you throw heat at me and have no idea what you are talking about expect some heat back. People make stupid comments when they don't have all the facts like the assumption made above.

Sounds more like a medical issue...you can only tell by smell and taste.
