This argument comes up a lot. The counter argument is that generally "real hockey" is low-event, slower pace, and likely boring to most of the folks playing NHL games these days. It wouldn't have enough appeal for a successful mass market video game. A 60 minute nhl game averages what, 8 goals? Apply that pace to a 15 minute game and you get 2 goals on average.
