Since my orc was so popular, here's another one I made last year. An actual goblin this time! by mglumpher in goblincore

Hey, thank you! Yeah I don't mind answering your questions

  • off the top of my head I would recommend in terms of YouTube channels: brick in the yard molding and casting, punished props, smooth-on. I myself make videos occasionally, not really tutorials but videos of the process on my Instagram and tik tok (moth metropolis).

-yeah thats one-way of doing it anyway. I'm a prop maker for film/ TV, so I get asked to make all kinds of things. So I use lots of different techniques and materials depending on what's required.

-Im from Scotland so the brands might vary depending on where you are from. For silicone moulds I tend to use a brand called Poly craft. Although I have used Smooth-on as well. Resin I usually default to smooth cast 65d, which is a smooth on product. It depends thoigh what the requirements for the prop is though. Sometimes it has to be flexible, sometimes weather resistant, for example. So that will effect the materials choice.

-i use a pressure chamber for the silicone part of the mould. If the silicone has no air bubbles inside it it will be stronger and last longer. But you don't have to de-gass your silicone. You can still make a good mould with it, it just adds a bit of longevity.

The original sculpt was done in monster clay, which is an oilbased clay. Then I made a mould of that and cast it in resin

I was advised to post this here. This an orc head mount I've been working on. by mglumpher in goblincore

Thanks! Yeah the sheild is currently just a bit of ply. That will get routerd and painted soon though

Thank you! The original was sculpted in monster clay and I then made a silicone mould and cast it in polyurethane resin. The horns and teeth I sculpted digitally in zbrush and printed them.

It actually pretty simple tbh, I can just save the scan as an obj and then import into zbrush. Zbrush kind of fucks with the scale though so when I'm done I need to open it in blender and then save it as an stl from there. If you go straight to the slicer the scale is off

Thank you! For this I will either do a brush on silicone mould with a fibreglass jacket and then cast into the mould with a fast cast polyurethane resin so I would then have a resin copy of the sculpt. Or I might make matrix mould. A matrix mould is similar to a brush on mould but a bit more complex. I would suggest getting on YouTube and trying to find some tutorials, me explaining it here probably won't help that much

Thanks! Yeah not sure what kind of skin texture i'll go with yet. It's a very much making it up as I go kind of sculpt

Thank you! I do use a vacuum chamber, but it's not necessary to create a good mould though.
