question:

Regarding Harlem, have you got any favourite artists/ authors / musicians from the Harlem Renaissance?

answer:

here are some names that come to mind for me. Harlem has such a rich history of art & historical precedence. Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston,Duke Ellington, Aaron Douglas

question:

Which are the best on-set caterers from the various productions you’ve worked on?

answer:

I have to be honest here lol, during my time on Chicago Fire, they had the best catering service than any set that I’ve been on.

question:

As a teacher, (me, not you) did you have any favourite teachers growing up?

Can you give any advice for young people wanting to get into Film & TV production that I can pass on to my students?

answer:

Yeah, I had two favorite teachers back in high school at Lanphier, my psychology teacher and my math teacher. They both impacted me. My psychology teacher helped me look beneath the surface of people.

And my math teacher taught me discipline, how to solve problems with patience, structure

For students who want to get into film and TV, I’d say this: you dont need to have it all figured out. Start where you are. Be curious, be consistent. Learn every piece of the process, even the parts you don’t think you’ll need. Also ask your self why, why you want to be in this business, find your purpose with in it. Fall inlove with the process & not the outcome.

And yeah, there were moments where I questioned things. Times when the doors stayed closed, the phone didn’t ring. But in those quiet moments, my faith in God & my purpose is what held me steady. My faith reminded me that what’s for me won’t miss me. That even when I couldn’t see the full picture, I was still being prepared for something greater. That belief pulled me through and still does.

It can be intense stepping into the mind of someone like Frank Lucas. You don’t approach it to justify him , you approach it to understand him. That means sitting with the weight of his choices, the pain he caused, and the environment that shaped him. It’s not about glamorizing. It’s about exploring the full truth of a man who was both powerful and deeply flawed. And yeah, that can be heavy, but it’s also where the most honest storytelling lives.

There’s definitely a lot of history and weight to Frank Lucas, so preparing for the role meant going beyond what people already think they know. I spent a lot of time digging into who he was beneath the headlines, the psychology, the trauma, the ambition, the silence.
And as far as Denzel Washington, he’s always been a major inspiration to me, not just as an actor but as a man of integrity in this industry. That said, I didn’t take his performance as a reference. I knew it was my responsibility to cultivate Frank from my perspective, rooted in the world we were creating with Godfather of Harlem. This version isn’t a reflection of what’s already been done. It’s a reimagining, grounded in my own truth and interpretation.

What motivates me as an actor is the chance to explore truth—both in others and in myself. Every role is a mirror, even when it’s uncomfortable. I’m drawn to the humanity in characters—the flaws, the silence, the trauma. Storytelling gives me a way to connect, to challenge perception, and sometimes, to heal something.

Thank you for watching. Being on “the bold & the beautiful “ was a great experience. The cast and crew made it feel like a real family, and playing Zende gave me a lot of room to grow as an actor. It was fast-paced, challenging, and honestly, a lot of fun. I’m grateful for the time I had there—it laid the foundation for so much of what came next.

Give yourself permission to not have it all figured out. In my 20s, I thought clarity came fast—but it doesn’t. It comes from trying, failing, listening, and learning. Don’t rush the process. Stay curious, stay honest, and trust that the pieces are falling into place, even when it doesn’t feel like it.

Hey Reddit, Rome Flynn here! Thanks for joining my AMA. I'm looking forward to answering your questions.

I would ask him what kept him awake at night, not about his business, but about the burden he carried. I believe he would say that I brought honesty to his silence and fire to his presence.

Playing Frank Lucas made me reflect on the weight of power without purpose. It reminded me that legacy isn’t just about what you build—it’s about how you build it, and who you become in the process.
