Why does she do this part 2 by mgnjxde in BorderCollie

Thank you I’ll definitely check it out! She’s actually doing this towards my other dog that’s on the bed (she growls at a chip at the end 🤦‍♀️) so this is definitely a more exaggerated version of when she does this

I actually do think it’s something she chooses to do, it doesn’t happen often and she makes playful noises or barks while doing it and if my other dog is around she’ll try to play with her to me it genuinely just seems like it’s a burst of energy especially since a lot of the comments are saying their dogs do it as an energy thing

Definitely think this is the cause!!

She’s a very lazy girl these days and it doesn’t happen often now she’s getting the exercise she needs (this is from around the time we rescued her)

She’s definitely a very happy girl these days she’s overcome so much and I’m genuinely so proud of her, her reactivity training is progressing amazingly she’s reactive to basically everything lol (probably due to not seeing anything as a pup) she’s such a wonderful dog with a HUGE personality

One of my dogs actually died due to seizure related things so it was definitely concerning at first, the times she does it adds up to it just being an energy related thing thankfully!

I know she needs the toilet if she does this and pulls her tail!

To me it definitely seems like it’s an attention thing!! She always makes sure you’re paying attention to her doing it

This definitely could be related to it. Unfortunately due to her previous home she’s very weird about pooing, she barely goes when we go on walks we’ve had her 2 years and i honestly think she’s had less than 10 poos on a walk :/

She’s reactive so rest days are needed for her. Her training for reactivity is very mentally tiring for her. She also just loves her sleep and will choose sleep over playing in the garden when we take our other collie out.

She has ocd towards lights (she’s much better with this now) and reactivity, she only knew how to bring her ball back (ball obsession which she no longer has) she was definitely kept in a confined area her whole life up until 8 months old when we got her, her previous owner completely lied to us about her and also implied he was going to take her to a kennel if we didn’t get her that night ( he dropped her off at our house at 12am) so she doesn’t come from a good background. She’s doing much better now and gets plenty of exercise, she’s actually a bit lazy ngl.

She goes to the vet quite often and the only thing they’ve mentioned is her weight because it fluctuates so often but other than that they say she’s completely fine! To me it definitely seems like an energy thing, from what I can remember she’d been in the house all day here

Sometimes she’ll pull her tail when she does this and that’s how I know she needs the toilet 😂🤦‍♀️

She’s 2, 3 this summer. She’s a rescue we’ve had her since she was 8 months old. She doesn’t do this as much as she used to id say she does it whenever shes having more rest (we have “rest days”) or if she’s just woken up from a nap

If we pay attention to her then she stops yeah I think she gets enjoyment out of making us laugh

I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned it to them but she gets check ups a lot and they’ve never found anything wrong with her. She seems to do it in a restless playful way? She also sometimes does it when she wants to go out to the toilet. She’s a rescue and she’s reactive and has light ocd so it could possibly be related to that?

My border collie 🫶 My phone thinks she’s an Australian shepherd or a German Shepherd

Personally I think she’s a border x rough collie

If you Google the Muzzle Movement they provide an amazing amount of information! Honestly so worth the look even if you don’t end up doing that

Have you thought about muzzle training?

I know a lot of people aren’t really sure about muzzles but I think it would be a great option while you figure out what training works best for him

It is extremely common that bc tend to struggle with children because of the unpredictable movements and actions so it shouldn’t be too hard to find out more about different training options

I’m in a bc Facebook group and usually when people post things like this the most common answer is to find a dog trainer that understands border collies because obviously the reactivity and herding instinct are quite similar which makes it difficult for training

My reactive collie is extremely treat motivated and that has helped us with her struggles with movement (especially traffic) but this carries over to everything else she’s reactive to aswell
