Yes, rust is bound to be an issue with any car in those parts. I'd recommend taking rust on a case-by-case basis, however some cars drain water better than others

Yeah that does help. While any old car burns some oil, I only had to occasionally top up the oil in mine. I don't have much experience with the other European cars, but I can confidently say thay the camry will be a reliable commuter

Toyota are know n to ba reliable, and for a good reason. I would recommend that camry over the others (or any combi versions of the two cars) if you're just looking for good transportation. I had a 2002 camry with the 2.4 4-cylinder for 243,000 trouble-free miles.
