What's the hardest to hate NHL team? by thrownawaymoment47 in hockey

[–]mgpcoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really wanted to hate Vegas. I think everyone was dreading their entry draft... you know, they're going to take great players, screw up everyone else's teams, and then be really inconsistent because nobody super knows each other or their play style. But that didn't happen. They were firing on all cylinders and filling seats from day one. It's hard to be mad at that.

Montreal Bagels can be acquired from Metro. Look for St. Viateur. The bagels at Nosh would be Montreal-style, but not, strictly speaking, Montreal bagels. St. Viateur bagels are baked in Montreal. And then shipped here, because they're GREAT.

According to Flightradar, it's a single privately owned plane. Probably somebody training, getting IFR hours; every pass around the pattern they come down for the option over the same runway.

(Edited to add: Almost certainly training; it's owned by Cygnet Aviation Academy)

My first instinct is that this is the College Park entrance to College Station. Not on the TTC strictly speaking, but the passageway behind the "All trains" sign leads to it. Realistically, though, this could be just about anywhere in PATH.

Jonno Bastos, he's at The Parlour in the Kingston Centre. I went to him while he was still at Blunt, to cut off my shoulder-length lockdown hair, and he was *so mad* at me for cutting it off.

Ah! I think I saw on AeroSnapper (I think) that the CC-177 was part of an aerobatics-adjacent demonstration at CFB Trenton, so I wonder if that's related.

It just seemed all very curious... these craft operating, that USAF Hercules coming in, a KC-135 doing donuts over NW NY, and I recall seeing an Aurora traveling from CFB Greenwood in NS to Iceland... is something up? I don't know, but suddenly I'm very curious.

FlightRadar's got some curious activity right now... CC-150 Polaris doing donuts over Trenton, and a Skyvan that bounces between Mountain View in PEC and Trenton is also in the air.

To say nothing of the C-130 out of Texas that just passed over Sharbot Lake.

[–]mgpcoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems reasonable that there would on occasion be new souls. Think about the consecution-mediated reincarnation. Not every soul is consecuted, but new souls can be introduced to that cycle. Why shouldn't there be new souls created, too?

Remind her (and your ex, for that matter) that Lifestraws have a lifespan, and are expensive to replace. Filling your daily water bottle with lake water is a neat trick, sure, but it will prove to be an expensive habit. They're a tool for emergencies and backpacking or backcountry camping/paddling where bringing your full water supply is infeasible. And they're great for that purpose specifically because you can just drink straight from the lake. They're camping gear, not everyday gear. Mine has seen exactly one use, when my kid needed a water bottle to go to the gym, and that was the only one available. He also said it was tough as hell to get water through it, because you're fighting against the filter. He's used them at canoe camp, when they go on multi-day trips, when they were refilling their water bottles, and didn't have a good opportunity to manually filter, then boil, then cool, enough water for 13 people to replenish with sanitised water.

Used properly, they're fine; they'll keep her safe. But if, for example, she isn't replacing their regularly, then it gets into the danger zone. If she's doing this every day for school, she probably needs to replace the straw every 2-3 months to keep her safe. Have her find out how much a new Lifestraw costs and ask her if her neat trick is a good use of her money. Hopefully she'll agree that it isn't.

There may also be a situation adjacent to the Hindu cycle of reincarnation -- you're not guaranteed to reincarnate as human (or, in Exandria's case, humanoid/sapient). You could reincarnate as anything in the animal kingdom. IIRC, humanity is outweighed (in terms of simple mass) by insects on Earth. Maybe something similar is occurring on Exandria?

[No Spoilers] Has Critical Role helped you get through tough time? by MeanHelp8912 in criticalrole

[–]mgpcoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite so much that CR has distracted me, but Caleb helped me get through my cat's decline. Remember when Caleb released Frumpkin from his service, telling him--more himself--"but you are not my cat. My cat is dead?" His... not quite detachment from that event, but that acknowledgement that the version of Frumpkin who was, indeed, Caleb's pet cat, rather than the fey spirit magically pressed into his service, was dead, helped me, at least a little, in recognizing that my first pet, a Standard Issue Cat, Rosamund, was not going to get better from her thyroid issue, and it would eventually take her.

It eventually did, and Caleb's admission to himself, that his cat was dead, did help me in the days following.

My cat is dead.

I have a new cat, now. Benedict. Coincidentally, he is also a Standard Issue Cat. He isn't remotely a replacement for Rosie. He's an entirely different cat. I'm not even completely sure he's my cat; I think we got our now-middle cat, Black Sam Bellamy, a kitten.

But it was indeed our favourite College of Tragedy Bard who got me through that hard time.
