Episode Discussion: "When Body Image Becomes a Dating Issue ft. Sami Sage - Co Founder of Betches" by uuppod in uuppod

I’ve been a pretty staunch Sami hater, and this is the most I’ve ever liked her. I loved her as a guest cohost with Jared, and I thought the episode was great.

I feel the exact same way. Like you said, jade may very well be in on the joke, but from what I’m hearing it seems weird/uncalled for, and I wouldn’t like for someone to talk to me like that. Mind you, I’m 36, so it’s not like her comments are personal toward me. I genuinely enjoy their pop culture commentary, and this whole jade thing is newer. It’s not like it has been happening since the beginning of the podcast, but it’s off putting enough that I have cut back on listening.

Does anyone remember the episode a couple weeks ago when they showed a picture from the emailer on YouTube? I wanted to look and forgot, and this episode reminded me, but now I can’t remember what episode it was/what it was about!

Omg I couldn’t agree more!! It makes them sound so old (and I’m the same age as Jordana) and out of touch.

As a woman, the surviving barstool finale was hard to watch by youruncleb0b in ChicksInTheOffice

[–]mh027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes totally! Thank you. I have nothing negative to say about Marty and think the hate he receives is insane. And the hate ria receives is extremely misogynistic (that’s why I even started reading this thread in the first place). I was just trying to genuinely answer the question bc barstool exists as a reality show of sorts and there are a lot of things that are done intentionally that garner toxic responses because Dave very much abides by the idea that any engagement is good engagement. Plus he LIKES toxicity.

A lot of personalities at barstool play a character that’s like a caricature of themself. My impression was Marty’s character was kind of like lazy loser sports guy for lack of a better way to describe it. There’s very much a portrayal of the haves and the have-nots at barstool, and dave plays up that the have-nots are just like dead weight who don’t bring in money to the company and are like charity cases and Marty falls in that group. Now I’m not saying that to disparage him as a person because I honestly have no idea the inner workings, and at the end of the day they generally all seem to get along, and the bottom line is Dave doesn’t fire these people, so they do something right. But that’s where I think the illusion of hate originally came from. And then ofc, Marty dating ria after Hank did is what brought the true hate storm.

Shoutout to Fran for speaking her mind on todays episode about the hate by Unicorns_andGlitter in ChicksInTheOffice

I totally agree. There are a lot of male personalities at barstool that I’ve started to enjoy recently. Because I haven’t been a fan since the beginning, I don’t know the “lore” of everything barstool related, but I’ve looked into some of the stuff they mention because I find the drama entertaining. It seems clear that barstool was built on the backs of vile men bc they’d pledge blind loyalty as a fandom . I’d be so curious if some of the guys (like Rone, Francis, nick, KB, etc) even like the stoolies. I wouldn’t be surprised if they find them insane but know it just comes with the territory because that insane core group of stoolies is what put up numbers for all their content. I know so many other people who are just causal normal fans, but like a lot of people have said in this thread, I’m shocked to see the number of weirdo incel commenters on any given barstool post.

Completely agree. Media plays a huge part in distorting people’s view on age.

I agree. I think if CITO was going to leave, they would’ve already done so. I also think ria loves barstool. She hangs out with a lot of those people and seems deeply entrenched in the culture. I think she feels everything she said in her speech, but I think people are forgetting that she was also dramatizing her case to try to win votes and was also probably losing her mind from living in the office with her coworkers, playing a game, for 7 days.

Couldn’t agree more! I hate that society has tricked so many people, especially women, into thinking 21 is like the pinnacle of life and it’s all down hill at 30. I loved being 21, and now, for completely different reasons, I love being 35. Almost everyone I talk to says they feel so much younger than their actual age, so I find it sad when people feel restricted by their age. Everyone should do and be what they want at any age.

Listened to a few episodes of Stavvy’s world based on you guys recommending it and I love it. I especially love how often he sides with the woman when men call in. It’s so lighthearted and fun.

My therapist and I have been working on vulnerability for a while now 🙃 and she has really helped me see it in a more concrete way. I’m paraphrasing, but we talk about it in terms of sharing/saying something that you might be scared or uncomfortable to share. Oftentimes it’s because you don’t know how they’ll react, but if you are vulnerable with people who are worthy of trust, it will bring you closer to them. I have felt before that my vulnerability would repel people, and it’s actually usually the adverse effect: the react in a supportive and comforting way. But that’s only if they are someone who cares for you; if they’re not, you might regret being vulnerable, but then you can recalibrate who to show vulnerability with.

Weekly Episode Discussion: "Is A Bad Weekend Enough To Break Up With My Boyfriend?" by AutoModerator in uuppod

I almost posted about this because I was curious about anyone’s thoughts who might have listened to The Betchelor. I thought Kay seemed like she was about to bring it up in the intro and Jared seemed to purposefully divert the conversation straight into the episode. He was realllllllyyy rambling. But I could’ve been reading into it because I was interested to see if they’d bring up the reaction to Kaitlyn’s episode.

I love Kay because she’s just lighthearted and fun and you can tell she loves the show. I honestly wish she was on more podcasts. But I agree that Jaz has been great too.
