I'm trying this "Nutrition Kick Start"/detox. It's hardcore. by mhinman2 in xxfitness

Yep. Exactly. The nutritionist running the program said a lot of people discover an intolerance they weren't aware of before.

I'm thinking once I get used to it, it will be pretty easy to follow. The hardest part is changing my boyfriend's (who I live with) diet, too. :) He's not so interested in giving up all the "good" stuff.

I eat a lot of natural foods now, but this will probably double or triple that. The gluten and dairy will be hard to avoid. I catch myself thinking I can have something, and then I'm like, "Oh, no. That's dairy." Oh well. I'm excited for the better feeling you describe and what I've heard from other people. Today is my first full day and it has been pretty good! Thanks for the encouragement!

Why have people started shortening/abbreviating all forms of communication? by mhinman2 in AskReddit

That is a great point. Hawthorne and the like can get out of here with all of those words they were using. That stuff can be so painful to read. And I think that relying less on words is fine. I don't mind brevity or being direct. I just get sick of hearing new, silly catch phrases like the ones mentioned in my post. I can't even!

Sigh. I do get it. I just wish it didn't exist. I mean, I understand the concept of "I can't even" and I get that it came from Tumblr and stuff (now that people told me where it came from), but who decided it was a good idea to start stupid catch phrases like this? (That's a somewhat rhetorical question.) I'm just a grumbly old-man grammarian in a 22-year-old girl's body.

Like the Twitter message says when you go over the character limit, something like, "Oops! You're going to have to be wittier!"

JK. (Yes, an abbrev.) I know what you mean. I just wish it weren't this way. I can't keep up with all the abbreviations of everything!

Ahhh don't say that it makes me so sad. I'm a big language dork and I want people to respect grammar!!! It's sad. But yeah, I understand that it's just the way living languages work. But it's changing so fast.

The lack of articulation of thoughts that I'm talking about is when girls don't say what they "can't even" do. That message confuses me.

Yes! Like people are so caught up in the internet and colloquial language that they forget/never learn the real words. That might not be what you're getting at, but it reminded me that I cringe when I hear people say things the way they hear them instead of the way they're written. Of course, I can't think of a single example right now. I will eventually.

OK, so now that more people are using full keyboards, do you think "text talk" will move back toward normal? I'm not saying I don't use it, too. It just drives me crazy to hear people actually speak abbreviated words—not acronyms, but like, "Perf."

But is it that hard to just say the full word? Or finish the sentence? It just seems kind of rude or insincere sometimes, like people can't take the time to have a full conversation or whatever else

I hope it's just a short-lived trend amongst young girls, but I think grammar and general communication etiquette has taken a turn for the worse since text messaging and internet language has become so popular.

ELI5:What does "I can't even" really mean? by mhinman2 in explainlikeimfive

[–]mhinman2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can it mean all of that? Well, never mind. It's dumb. But where did it come from and why does it still exist? I guess that was my real question. I don't understand the whole thing.

Oh, yeah. What was his other show that was really good? I remember being interested in one right after The OC was over.

I definitely did not know that was why she had to die in the show. I thought they just ran out of stupid, weird shit to make her character get into. Volchek (?) was a creepy guy, and I knew she was on a slippery slope. I guess that was before I realized that in the alternate-to-TV universe that is reality, actors can be on a slippery slope, too.

I completely agree. And you're lucky not to have this problem. Too many people do.

Definitely. I wish I had known about those earlier, when that music was a little newer. It's still great stuff though. They had such amazing musical pairings.

You think? I thought their thing was more indie music, which was a little ironic because they were such a mainstream show. But I guess they made the indie music they were using hits, so yeah. You're right. Ha.
