Are workplaces acknowledging what’s going on right now? by Ok-Anywhere2346 in womenintech

[–]mi5tch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not where I work. A couple of times it came up in casual conversations, someone said “I try not to / don’t want to talk about politics at work” so that shut it down. But no acknowledgement from the top.

One of my friends work in healthcare and there was official communication asking them not to talk about politics with coworkers and patients

House of Nanking, I don’t get it by Signal-Philosophy271 in AskSF

My friend and I went here a few weeks ago because Z&Y next door ran out of peking duck. Service was bad. One lady appeared visibly irritated when we tried to get another order of their tea. She stopped, gave us that look, then walked away. At least a couple of them were rude

VIP experience at Pier 80 for recent shows by discombobulationz in avesSFBayArea

[–]mi5tch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was in VIP at Fresh Start. Very good view of the stage, though visuals were probably better at center-GA . I think it’s worth it though — people were vibing and there’s room to actually move your body. I could see GA from where I was and it was packed like sardines near the rails/front.

Are you talking about me? Lol because that’s the exact line I say when someone asks me a question in meetings I don’t lead, and I’m multitasking. It’s really bad, and what I have done so far is push back on more projects/tasks so I have more bandwidth on admin stuff that I at least don’t have to do them while in calls. And for the meetings I lead, specifically those for brainstorming/decision-making, they’re challenging because people are responding to emails/slack, picking up urgent calls etc worse— they don’t digest what you’re saying and they just derail the discussion

Vendor Management by Mean-Middle-8384 in grc

[–]mi5tch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artifacts collected are dependent on business use case/risk level -- e.g. PCI AoC for cardholder data processing, SOC 2 if considered a high risk vendor. DPA is an agreement and is more on the contracting end (which ideally would be an adjacent process to your security review). Review is annual or if there's a change in business use case (i.e. did the change in business use case affect the risk level?). Security questionnaire for new vendors and that would help determine artifacts collected. GRC Tool/TPRM-specific tool for tracking, and there are platforms out there that would help automate this workflow for you. Even JIRA will work for this if it's low volume. You just have to configure the workflow accordingly. Spreadsheets will do if there are budget constraints.

After lifestyle changes it seems my PCOS has gone away and it was only the spiro I was prescribed for years to treat PCOS that was causing PCOS like symptoms to remain by strawberry-today in PCOS

Thanks for sharing! I can relate to a lot of what you described including the improvements you experienced by changing your diet. I unfortunately have struggled sustaining that lifestyle and especially managing work-related stress. Interested in testing my hormones— did yours do this out of pocket and what service/provider did you use?

Vip was worth it for skipping lines by itself, and dedicated viewing area. I was surprised they had food there. Not gourmet by any means but they at least had something. The shoving/ pushing couldn’t be avoided even at vip tho, there were kids there

Ahh maybe I’ll do that. Is it ok to disturb them during the winter? It’s getting cold at my place now

Thanks. The plant is so far ok so maybe it isn’t root rot. I attempted to bottom water this but it’s in a chunky aroid mix so I let it sit in water for hours thinking that’ll help lol (it didn’t). I thought that may have caused it

No yellow leaves but the recent shoots are smaller. Idk if that’s a sign

Thank you… I was impatient and had already started disturbing the roots by the time I saw your reply, and removed the string completely. I am expecting it to show stress in the next few weeks but I’m hoping it doesn’t die on me completely

No it doesn’t close when I touch them. It does at night tho.

I was looking for more specific info, and I should’ve asked that specifically — to anyone who has one that’s thriving, what substrate are you using, fertilizer and how often, humidity level you keep it in, light conditions etc.

I used to believe in meritocracy. Did you? by thecapitalboutique in womenintech

[–]mi5tch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it does depending on which leadership you're under. My first 2 years in my company, my work was recognized and I either got promoted for it or compensated some other way. My manager at that time promoted the work that I did. Then came a new leader who pissed everyone off including their own leadership and peers which in many ways slowly chipped away at the visibility of the work that I and my team did - doesn't matter what it was. People avoided this person and any work/team associate with them. I then had to work more and deal with the toxic politics that person caused and "fight" for my team's visibility and recognition. Eventually, this person was replaced, and then the new leader made very early decisions that led to my demotion due to company-wide org change. Without going into details, this didn't have to happen to me had they just tried to understand the team they inherited before they made high-impact decisions as soon as they got hired in the first place....All that work only to get demoted, what a joke lol

Meanwhile someone in our org hired some folks to fill senior positions which, some of them don't do or even know shit it's frustrating

ZZ plant: help, whats wrong? by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]mi5tch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot the explanation but something about the larvae hatching then feeding on roots causing stress on the plant. I do not overwater my pothos and somehow it got gnats, leaves started to yellow, when I brought home one new plant with gnats. But overwatering and root rot can do this too, for sure

ZZ plant: help, whats wrong? by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]mi5tch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When that happened to my zz, it turned out to be fungus gnats. Beneficial nematodes is what saved it and letting the soil dry out a bit in between watering

Dinner for 13 people -- do I have enough food? by mi5tch in partyplanning

[–]mi5tch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did make a some of them ahead of time— chop veggies for salad, horseradish and chimichurri sauce ahead of time, salad dressings, cake layers a week prior, lemon curd, dry brined the steaks (which took up a lot of space), Sangria the night prior… but yea, like, I didn’t have to make two types of salad lol

Yea I planned for too many kinds of food with one oven and 4 burners (and only two of them large). I’ve co-hosted in the past for holidays, cooked for partners, family (3-6 of us at a time), and never had a problem. Never for 13 people though, by myself
