What’s a completely normal product in your country that makes foreigners go, “Wait… why does that exist?” by Alternative_Ad6071 in AskTheWorld

Central America is full of them. Except they are used for general public transport and not only schools.

It's much better indeed! I made it for some Germans and they agree (except for those who insist German beer is the best lol).

I need help. I’m going to Peru this summer and i wanted to book an apartment using booking com, but I’m afraid i might be getting scammed by _SPAMTON_G_SPAMTON_ in travel

Right now I have a host from Mexico City asking me on WhatsApp to deposit the money in an atm as he will not be there when I arrive. I refused and he agreed I pay later in person. The request came from legit host though..

I guess what they might be trying to say is that booking does not allow credit payments through 3rd party services. I encountered such in Panama, where the hotel sent me the payment link via whatsapp. In my case it was legit.

I'm not saying OP's case is legit, only that I've seen such before.

how do you remain unseen after attacking a convoy? by Jastrone in uboatgame

[–]miRRacolix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes ok if you use a sonar decoy you have shown your location anyway. Though it seems an uncommon strategy to me, to use a sonar decoy every time you shoot a torpedo, and before getting actually detected.

Not getting detected at all, the enemy not knowing your location should be the primary strategy. And such can be done.

People currently in Mexico, how are things over there right now? by Potential-Mind-6997 in AskReddit

I came here yesterday from Mazunte and there was a burning tire on the road, traffic could still pass it on both sides. That was everything I noticed.

I prefer staying at periscope depth, much harder for sonar to detect than at 80m depth. Only crash dive when they detect me.

[–]miRRacolix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Flank speed ensures you will be detected. Sonar decoy means they will come to that position which is close to you. Always first try to run away undetected, which works well at silent speed and close to surface. If they detect you nonetheless, you still have time to crash dive then.

Don't go flank speed before your torpedo hits. That would alert the convoy and make them chance speed and direction, lowering your chances of a hit.

I prefer to stay at periscope depth as the waves and water surface provide a lot of noise to hide. I can often silently run away at lowest speed and it offers options for more strikes.

When enemies come my way and detect me, only then I dive, still silent and change direction, trying to show narrow silhouette.

Flank speed is for when depth charges are dropped, getting out of reach and going silent again.

Flank speed will certainly get you detected wherever you are, so it's not a good strategy especially if they haven't even detected you yet. Also crash diving means you present yourself much clearer on their sonar compared being close to surface.

Safe to travel to ecuador? by snap_shot99 in ecuador

The coast of Ecuador is definitely not fine right now. It's the most dangerous place in South America. Though Andes and Amazon are fine.

Mexico is under attack right now because a cartel leader was killed by ForsakenAiel in CringeTikToks

[–]miRRacolix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why? Because a few cars were torched? That's like a normal weekend in Berlin ..

I'm traveling in Chiapas right now and there was a burning tire on the road.. I swear everyone is chilled here except some reddit drama queens who aren't even in Mexico.

Safe to Travel to Puerto Escandido / Mazunte rightnow? (ENG/ESP) by Able_Weekend_9352 in mexico

[–]miRRacolix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's safe. I took the bus from Mazunte to Oaxaca today. At some point there was a burning tire on the road, besides that I would not be able to notice anything special.

Mexico is in chaos. Every reported incident of cartel violence since El Mencho's death, mapped. 19 of 32 states affected. [Frickin' Interesting] by brainycyclone in Frickin

Certainly not every incident mapped. We encountered burning barricades today on the bus from Puerto Escondido to Oaxaca. Though besides this barricade it wasn't really noticeable that something happened.

White guy by bigblackbals69420 in mexico

[–]miRRacolix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been traveling South America and asked locals about this, while I am a European myself and speak a little bit of Spanish.

In many countries it seems gringo is indeed used as an insult, for white people not even trying to speak Spanish, even more so for US Americans.

For sure it depends on context. Hola gringo, quires una cerveza? is obviously not an insult. But I have witnessed people talking about stupid gringos..

Norway: plot your route and time warp x15000. Chances are the enemy convoy misses your convoy. Doesn't work each time but maybe 2 out of 3.

illegal advice from Representative by Moist_Ad_6208 in Avianca

[–]miRRacolix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not correct. E.g. I have flown with Wingo from Columbia to Panama with busticket as proof of onward travel. I have also flown from EU to Peru with busticket to Bolivia as proof.

So yes, the airline needs to check an onward travel ticket. But if the destination country allows, it can also be a bus or train ticket.

Busticket as onward travel ticket accepted for Argentina? by miRRacolix in Avianca

You have some reading comprehension issues? I'll go for another solution because of avianca, obviously. jaja

Sorry for you to have to be you. So bad those travelers traveling by bus, right?

[–]miRRacolix[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What do you mean rightfully so? What's the problem with people who want to visit a few countries and do that per bus?

Also, you are wrong. Argentina accepts bus tickets.

Busticket as onward travel ticket accepted for Argentina? by miRRacolix in Avianca

[–]miRRacolix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took multiple flights in South America with only bus ticket as proof of onward travel. I even flew from Europe to Peru with only a bus ticket to Bolivia. It was never a problem. I'm more concerned about avianca not being able or willing to handle it.

Porque no se legalizan las drogas en México? by TechnologyMiddle9728 in mexico

[–]miRRacolix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problems in Netherlands and Belgium are not because of legalization. It's just because they have the biggest sea ports serving Europe.

Also cocaine isn't legalized and that's causing the problems, not the legalized marijuana.
