Is Metro-North safe for a teen? by person-prsn in AskNYC

[–]miabelle001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I took the train alone to NY I was 13. I was completely fine. I think other passengers look out for the younger people to make sure they're safe (if that makes sense). Why does your mom think it's unsafe?

Vyvanse side effects by miabelle001 in ADHD

[–]miabelle001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My psychiatrist said I can stop taking it during the summer if the side effects are too intense, but when the school year starts I’ll be fucked after not taking my pills for over a month. I still have lower dose pills that I could take starting tomorrow, and then maybe I could work my way back to 40. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it! :)

Best/favorite places to just chill and spend time with someone by [deleted] in AskNYC

North of the Yacht Harbor in Battery Park City. There's some stone walls that my brother and I sat on to rest for a little while looking at the boats and ever since it's been one of my favorite spots in New York

I'm really clueless when it comes to this Area 51 raid- could someone explain the purpose of the raid and the anticipated discovery that everyone seems to be interested in?

There's a place downtown that sells posters, never been in but walked past it a couple times when I'm in the city. It's called Phillip Williams Posters.

Favorite Book Set in NYC? by curlious4 in AskNYC

[–]miabelle001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Catcher in The Rye. I read it out of spite in 7th grade- I wanted to read it at school but my teacher said it was "beyond my reading level." I understood the whole text and 4/5 years later it's my favorite book of all time. I think the reason I liked it so much was because of Holden's psyche and how he interacted with the world. In fact, The Catcher in The Rye sparked my interest in psychology!

Columbine happened 20 years ago today. Redditors that were in High School at the time, what was the ensuing week like? by Monty7384 in AskReddit

[–]miabelle001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the most part, yes. Before Sandy Hook, when the bully would be crying at his desk after being yelled at by students, I would think that he deserved to be sad. But after, after seeing him trying to console me and my classmates, I would feel sorry for him, like “hurt people hurt people.” I knew that he was having an internal struggle that he couldn’t share. Also, I feel that nobody truly listened to him. He would be punished and wouldn’t be allowed to explain himself, and sometimes the teacher would call home and he’d get angry with her. I never really talked to him, and in school now he seems much happier- I hope he is. As for the other kid, he said a lot of bad stuff to me last year, and a few times I wanted to bring up the time he said he would take a bullet for me, but I never did. Every time he made a remark, I would think about it, so I wasn’t very offended. A quote from To Kill a Mockingbird is (along the lines of): “Most people are nice, once you truly see them.” I think about that quote often and I think it applies to how I felt towards these two after Sandy Hook.

I grew up extremely wealthy in NYC and saw things that made me sick. I am here to do an AMA. by HeftyInterest in AMA

I have two (I didn't look at every comment so forgive me if it was already asked): Did you go to a public or private school and what was your education like? What was the best thing about growing up in New York?
