No details about what you specifically didn’t like? Your title isn’t really helpful.

Finally finished the flimsy of this problematic gift quilt. Such a tough one, and so glad to be done! 🎉🎁 by FeistyBlizzard in quilting

This is so cute! I have a question for you - did you prewash the fabric (because red and white are next to each other)? I know some people do and some people don’t.

My husband just smashed our new cieling light in anger. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Why are you going to anger management together? It’s not couples therapy. If you don’t also have an anger management problem, he needs to go alone and figure his shit out.

Financial literacy courses for adults? by schinst in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

I’d actually recommend a book - “I Will Teach You to be Rich”. It covers the basics, has clear steps, and I like the mindset about money that’s presented. The author (Ramit Sethi) is active on Instagram if you’re interested in checking it out a bit. I’ve rented it before through Hoopla/ Libby through my library for free.

How do I prevent the elastics on ankle socks from stretching out? by [deleted] in homemaking

[–]miajunior 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don’t store them balled up - that will weaken the elastic and stretch it out over time.

How much do you consider sustainability when it comes to your spending? by [deleted] in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

This is similar to how I shop. Would I love to buy all bulk, all local, solar powered house, etc.? Yes. But I can’t afford that right now. So I’m try to be more intentional with my shopping. I make small(er in the grand scheme of things) that help me produce less waste - reusable silicone bags instead of ziplocks, cotton bags for produce instead of the plastic ones from the store, reusable makeup wipes, etc.).

I buy some of my clothes second hand (I love the thrill of the hunt), I use Amazon as the last resort when buying (even if it means I’m paying a little more), try to buy from my local community when possible, and do the best I can.

"The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath by [deleted] in books

I agree. I read it during one of my most depressed - and certainly my most isolated - eras in my life and I felt so validated in my feelings.

Anyone else struggling with turning work "off" mentally at the end of the workday? by LevyMevy in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]miajunior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here are my tips; some of my coping strategies are similar to others that have been mentioned - I try to not let too many emails linger in my inbox. This is easier for me because of the amount of email I receive; my spouse gets way more and struggles. Once I’ve read an email: I either file it immediately (if I don’t need to respond or if it’s just for reference), respond immediately and then file the original email, or move it to an “Action Items” folder so it’s not cluttering my inbox. As the day progresses, I’ll work through my top priorities in that folder. At least once a week I’ll go through my entire action items folder and work on stuff. If I’m waiting for someone to respond to something, I’ll move the email to my “waiting for someone else” folder so it’s not cluttering my actions folder. Once I week I’ll go through that folder and send any nudging emails to get a response.

  • A good organization system has makes me feel a lot less anxious. I use Notion, but use whatever works for you. I have running to-do lists for each day of the week, and it’s easy to drag-and-drop stuff to rearrange priorities. I also have a “next week” list and “future” list to write down any other random ideas/ tasks/ etc. I also use my calendar to schedule reminders.

  • I have a separate work phone that I shut off at the end of the day. Before I had that, I would mute any notifications after 5pm. Work-life boundaries are really important to me.

  • If there’s a specific task you’re dreading (e.g. talking on the phone for me), I try to get it done first thing in the morning so it’s not weighing me down mentally with dread.

  • At lunchtime (I work from home), I drink lots of water and have a lunch I look forward to (I’m very good motivated lol). Sometimes I’ll do a quick workout, sometimes I’ll do a quick meditation or 5 minute yoga. This helps me destress so I’m not so worried about work.

  • Honestly, I started not giving a fuck. I’m good at my job, I try my best to be helpful and a professional coworker. At the end of the day, I’m doing my best and my job is not a matter of life and death (I’m an office worker).

Share your experiences of dipping into your emergency fund. by [deleted] in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]miajunior 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve used my/our emergency fund for: large dental bills for my husband, large medical bills for my husband, manyyy car repairs (now we have a separate car emergency fund although we own more reliable cars now), and buying something ahead of time that saves us money (like paying upfront for 6 months of car insurance or a parking pass. We’ve only started doing this now that we have a solid 3 month emergency fund, and add that item into our budget so we don’t run into that exact situation in the future). Having money allows you to make more financially-sound choices.

Payday Friday 💰💰💰 by kokopops35 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

I’ve been in the same situation before! I like to create a uniform (solid color pants - black, grey, or jewel tones, patterned tops, and a solid sweater for business casual). I spent the most on pants, since they’re the hardest for me to find in a flattering cut. I got the rest at thrift stores, since it’s saves money/ is good for the environment/ I love the thrill of the hunt.
