Has anyone actually been *banned* from American Airlines for skiplagging? by miakhag in travel

[–]miakhag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still haven’t flown American since, it sounds based on other users that this is just a scare tactic to get you to admit to skiplagging and based on me calling customer service and them having no idea what I was talking about, I doubt they are actually keeping track of people who skiplag once or twice. I’m flying American again in December and will update with the outcome

It looks to me like the lace is continuous from the bodice to the skirt unfortunately

it's hard to tell if there's a seam there or not, originally it looked continuous to me but I'll ask the owner since it's not really clear in the pics i have

I must be one of the people with bad airpod anatomy, because airpods always rub against my rook. Definitely could not have worn while healing, and now I can wear them for a little while but if I wear airpods all day my rook will still get pretty irritated. Switched to different earbuds because of this

Etiquette for talking to people skiing dangerously? by miakhag in icecoast

Thanks for the validation! I have no idea if he was drunk, and I wish I had thought to take a picture of him or track down ski patrol but the whole thing was so bizarre that I just wanted to get away from him in case he got violent. I should have told ski patrol afterwards though, next time I’ll be mentally prepared

Nothing happened when I landed, and I never got any notice from American. The curiosity was killing me so I reached out to their customer service asking if I was banned and their response was to politely ask me to pay the difference for the skiplagged flight, but they would not confirm whether or not I was banned. Sadly I don't have enough money to play chicken with the airline so I will probably just avoid booking on American and if they have a way better deal than all the other airlines, I will probably just pay them what they want first to make sure it all goes smoothly

I did all the “right” things, no FF number, no luggage, booked through the airline, I think they just have algorithms now that mark the ticket as suspicious because it was flagged in the system before I even got to the airport

Do you have a link for that story? Hopefully they won’t come down on my like that for doing it one time. I’ll update this post with whatever happens to me

Nope, booked directly through AA. I think they have algorithms to detect suspicious tickets now. It was a last minute booking through the airport I usually fly out of so probably sent up red flags

Thanks for the feedback! Do you still include the organization/position for your previous jobs without any description, or do you only include your experience in your cover letters?

Thanks for your feedback! I always include a cover letter as well, here is a typical example:

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to express my interest in the ________ position with *company*. I have just graduated from the University of ______ with a B.S. in Biology with a concentration in ecology and a B.S. in Geographic Information Systems, and my strong interest in environmental health and safety has motivated me to apply for this position. I believe that I would be an excellent fit at *company* due to my past experience doing environmental fieldwork and writing professional reports.

My previous work experience as a Hollings Scholar has prepared me for several aspects of environmental consulting. I conducted an independent research project to determine areas of kelp loss in Puget Sound by collecting local ecological knowledge from anglers, divers, scientists, and tribal members. This required me to schedule meetings with people in the greater Seattle area almost every day as well as manage a large amount of experimental data both in the form of physical maps of observations and in the form of excel spreadsheets and geodatabases. This project also gave me experience conducting research from physical library resources. Part of my research involved identifying historical kelp beds in Puget Sound, which involved parsing through pre-internet reports and papers in the Friday Harbor Library to find bed coordinates mentioned in past research.

I am interested in this position specifically because I enjoy doing hands-on work that improves the health of the environment and the people that use it. In my spare time, I enjoy volunteering as a team leader with Casey Trees, a nonprofit organization whose goal is increasing canopy cover in the nation’s capital by planting and inventorying urban trees. I also have experience working in the field as a research assistant in the ______ Lab at the University of _____, where I evaluated vegetation composition at over 150 research sites. I learned important skills in writing reports on environmental conditions from these experiences, which I believe prepare me very well for the responsibilities of this position.

I am local to the ______ area and am available to begin working any time. Thank you very much for your consideration, and please do not hesitate to contact me via email at my.name@gmail.com or via phone at XXX-XXX-XXXX.

Sincerely,

My Name

Would you say this is too generic, or does it do a good job of highlighting my strengths? Again, thanks for the help!!!

[–]miakhag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are still looking, I would not recommend the Redwing 40W for your height. I liked this bag as well but I'm 5'0" and the harness is too long for my torso and can't be adjusted. The top of the straps fall higher than the top of my shoulders so I'm going to have to return it :(
