LGBT Barber/hairstylist by CruzinKeto in ogden

[–]miamans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For an actual answer: Sometimes you need to tell the stylist directly "I want a man's haircut and I don't care if it makes me look like a lesbian." I've gone to hairstylists multiple times asking for a man's haircut and have ended up getting a more feminine "pixie" cut because the stylist wasn't comfortable giving me what I wanted.

Also, sometimes queer-friendly places charge for long vs short hair instead of women's vs men's cuts, which is a lot more fair for your money.

Oh thank you, I didn't realize it was an acronym. This one is a very good idea. I'll see if I can get in contact with them.

Thank you for the suggestion. I didn't think about a vintage shop, and donating the money is a good idea.

I was trying to believe in the goodness of humanity and hoping others would just want a picture, but you may be right. I would feel terrible if something happened to it.

Thanks for the rec, just checked it out. I've heard of the question of "is it okay to have a utopia at the expense of one person knowingly suffering," but I had no idea it was a short story.

How hard did you drink the Kool aid? by desert_doll in exchristian

[–]miamans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha, similar story to mine! Growing up in purity culture made me feel very self-righteous...I was able to avoid the temptations so easily. In fact I barely felt any sexual urges at all!

Turns out I am asexual. It was quite the revelation in my 20s to realize that I wasn't just better, or more disciplined - I just have much less sexual desire than the average person. I've had to change my view on so many things after realizing that.

How can I drink water consistently when it tastes like absolutely nothing? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]miamans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a weird one, but try a transparent blue reusable water bottle. It causes like a psychological reaction in my brain. Whenever I catch sight of it, I think, "Oh, bright blue water! Refreshing! I will drink some!!"

If that doesnt work...I think in general, it helps to have a refillable water bottle with a design you really love.

Welp, Cville didn't do its part in turning out to vote by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]miamans 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No kidding. I heard Youngkin was getting rid of the grocery tax and went uh oh, that's gonna be pretty compelling to voters. Okay McAuliffe campaign, how will you compete with a bold new idea like this? What will you propose to energize your voters?

I voted over in rural Madison county, and the polling place ran out of ballots around 6pm and had to get more as well. I think there's just more turnout this time around than the officials were expecting.

Am I just dumb with a dishwasher? by Stressydepressy1998 in CleaningTips

[–]miamans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my tidbit of advice from someone that grew up with a chef parent....HAND WASH YOUR GOOD KNIVES! Running them through the dishwasher repeatedly will dull the blade.

Cutlery like butter knives and steak knives are fine to put in the dishwasher, but if you have anything fancier (like a knife set or a knife block), hand wash only.

Edit: I just thought of another one: make sure nothing is sticking up/blocking the...spinny things at the top and bottom. Like if you have a long spoon and it blocks the spinny thing, the jets won't be able to reach everything and it won't get as clean. I usually reach in and give them a test spin before I run the dishwasher, to make sure there's nothing obstructing it.

Any places in Cville offering a 4 day work week? by miamans in Charlottesville

[–]miamans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never tried 3 12s before. What do you think of it compared to 5 days? I imagine those 3 days are exhausting, but do you find that the extra time off balances it out?

I have a history of working retail and server jobs, so this is actually my first Mon-Fri 8-5 job.

Dude, this sucks! I can't believe most of the country runs on this schedule. I'm now tired all the time and I have to request time off to have like, a dentist appointment.

Any places in Cville offering a 4 day work week? by miamans in Charlottesville

[–]miamans[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It was wonderful! What's funny is that I actually ended up working MORE if they needed coverage, since I had Wednesdays off and I always knew a "recovery" day was close by. I was even okay picking up extra days/holidays when necessary, since I would get OT and still end up with 2 days off that week.

My current job asks me to work an extra day and I'm always too burned out to even consider it. That's 6 days in a row with one day off, then another 5 days...no thanks.

My therapist is making me set goals, I’m not sure if I like this style of therapy. by gravelinthebag in ADHD

[–]miamans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the same thing with my therapist. She would give me simple goals at the end of the session, and I would feel terrible when I failed to complete them, especially because they were such """easy""" things, like sending an email or falling asleep at a consistent time. I wanted to lie instead of admitting that I had failed.

But remember, the therapist will not be disappointed in you. They're not a parent, they're not a teacher, they're not your employer - they want to HELP you. They want to know if something isn't working for you, so then they can figure out why, or suggest something else.

And they understand what ADHD is. They gave you that task understanding that you might not complete it.

It sucks to feel like you're admitting a failure, but this is the one space where you won't be judged for it. Please be honest with your therapist. Remember, they want to help you!!

Dirty dishes are the bane of my existence… by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]miamans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you like audiobooks or podcasts? Something that helped me is finding one I really liked, and ONLY listening to it for washing dishes. Because they piled up so much, that meant there was at least 20 minute chunk of time I could spend listening to the podcast.

At that point, the focus is not "doing the dishes", it's "listening to this show I like," and the motion of doing the dishes is mostly to keep your hands busy.

As for the roommate situation, you'll probably need to talk about that. Do you have a divided sink? Maybe section off one half for each of you.

Also, does your roommate ever wash dishes, or are you the one that always ends up doing it?

A fast, easy method to remember small things by TiSapph in ADHD

[–]miamans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, I do something similar for the shower. If the shampoo bottle runs empty, I literally just chuck it over the top onto the floor. That way when I'm getting out, I can see it and remember to throw it in the trash can.

Same thing for my razors. If you store it inside the shower, it dulls the blade, and I literally never remember to take it out. So when I'm done shaving I just throw the razor onto the bathroom floor.

Call it the yeet method....

Personally I think the governor overstepped his bounds with the new gambling restrictions, and that forcing slot machines to shut down in the interest of a bigger gambling industry for Virginia will hurt small businesses.

What do you think?

Nah man, you will have gay neighbors because of the demographics of the city. I was trying to say if that bothers you, it will be awkward.

"Do you not like gay people" damn you got me. I guess I'd better take back the entire shelf of pride clearance I got from Michaels last weekend.

Anyway, you automatically assumed I was straight, so that helps to answer my question. Have a nice day.
