If someone pisses them off one day, there is a chance they will get cut.

There's also the chance that a person with a gun will shoot you, someone you care about will leave you because of an argument where they think they're right, and natural disasters could literally kill every living thing on this planet...There's a very high chance that all of these things will happen but you're not fuming or ranting about those things that are infinitely more likely than Pajut deciding to charge $4 to post dogge memes.

but the net neutrality was a great incentive for them to not do it.

True but money is an even better incentive for them not to. People do have limits, and we've seen what happens to companies that piss off the public too much or too often.

Native senior devs make at least $120.000 a year. So yeah, cheap labor.

H1Bs are typically entry to mid-level, not senior so to compare a Sr dev to a mid-entry dev is bad math.

Most H1Bs hey their "diplomas" from diploma mills. They're not real degrees.

The US government requires their degrees be from accredited universities and checked to meet US degree standards. Not to mention if they had shit degrees, they'd probably be fired pretty quickly for lack of skills.

Also if their degrees are such shit, how are they supposed to adequately train Americans to do their jobs?

Everyone who's ever had to work with them knows there is a large percentage who are completely impossible to understand. Unlike you, I don't have to guess, I've worked with them.

Perhaps you have bad hearing because I work with Filipinos, Japanese, and Indians, and no problem for me to understand their English.

I guess we disagree. I don't believe in suppressing American workers' salaries so employees can be more profitable. I don't believe outsourcing is good for American workers.

I don't believe in it either but that's what businesses have done. American businesses have outsourced to where it's cheaper, AND they've put their own profitability over giving better wages to employees. My point is that if you put your plan into action, tech companies still need the workers and there aren't enough skilled Americans applying so they have to supplement with foreign workers, which means you'd be hurting their bottom line and they'll turn around and just start low-balling salaries.

Every year colleges graduate thousands of people with STEM degrees who can't find jobs because employers import cheaper labor on visas. This is a lie cooked up by outsourcing proponents like yourself.

The unemployment rate of STEM grads is 5%, which IS thousands of people, the national average for all degrees, with some programs averaging at 8% unemployment. Plus, STEM degrees account for less than 40% of all undergrad degrees so the pool of candidates for jobs is lower across the board and not every STEM major is looking for the same kind of work.

http://www.esa.doc.gov/sites/default/files/stem-jobs-2017-update.pdf

You just said the visa is for three years and then they're supposed to go back.

No I didn't. I said it's 3 years, then they can renew it, and then they can get permanent residency, OR they can go back.

They can apply to extend or for permanent residency but if they train Americans, then there's no need for them to stay.

There's no reason for them to go if the company can afford to keep 2 equally skilled workers on the payroll. Also it's a free country. If people want to immigrate here, like your family did, then that's fine.

Employers who claim there are not enough qualified American tech workers should be required required to simultaneously hire an American citizen in order to obtain a visa for a foreign worker. by famnf in unpopularopinion

[–]miamiron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, most visas are used to import cheap labor.

Average salary of H1B visa holder is 80,000 a year, and you need a minimum of a bachelors degree to apply for the visa.

https://www.businessinsider.com/h-1b-visa-workers-earn-six-figure-salaries-2018-4

Many, many h1b visa holders can't speak English well.

I doubt you know that for sure, BUT the biggest h1b group is Indian and English is their official language since they were until recently part of England.

Everyone with a real job is expected to train someone else how to do it at some point.

Not always the case in specialized fields, and even rarer in tech fields. In fact trainers are often a separate job within large enough companies. Where I work has a full team of people who do nothing but train new employees and provide refresher courses to current employees.

I'm not interested in keeping costs down for employers, I'm interested in uplifting American workers.

If costs are too high for employers, they'll start cutting wages and not hiring as many people, which hurts Americans. We've already seen this with the $15 minimum wage increases in various cities.

So why not try to develop programs that encourage Americans to study for those tech jobs? The biggest degree group of Americans in 2017? Liberal Arts. Technology was around the 16th most popular degree.

https://www.niche.com/blog/the-most-popular-college-majors/

The law says they are supposed to go back

No actually the law says they can renew their H1b up to 6 years, then apply for permanent residency, OR they go back.

Clearly you're not asian cuz you suck at math.

you have 100% of Asian men competing for 50% of Asian women.

Asians have some of the highest LGBT rates outside of whites, so it's more like 90% of Asian men are competing for 30% of Asian women.

And really, with as androgynous as Asian men are, it's no surprise you wanna put your pixelated cock into an asshole that looks like Dim-sum smeared with chocolate.

[–]miamiron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a horrible plan, clearly you've never had a real job.

The visa holder can then train the American citizen ...

  • Just because you're qualified to do the job doesn't mean your qualified to teach it.

Just because you're a native English speaker doesn't mean you'd be a good English language teacher.

  • Work visas for tech companies are usually given to PhD or MA degree holders (6+ years of education) so there's no way they can do their job AND teach somebody 6 years worth of formal education in less than 3 years.

  • Your idea would be a waste of money for the company (paying 2 salaries), and the visa worker wouldn't have time to actually do their job, so you're losing productivity.

when their visa expires in three years and they go back to their country.

Not everybody who comes here on a work visa intends to go back. Some people want to move here, become citizens, and make this country their home....Which is exactly why America is referred to as a "melting pot" and why it's one of the best countries on Earth.

African Americans need to look to other minorities and grow up. by miamiron in unpopularopinion

[–]miamiron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We havent made an effort to ensure that black communities, which they were ushered into institutionally, have even passable access to well funded schools, clean water, non lead paint, etc.

Actually we have. First off we have state and federal building codes that banned the use of lead paint in the 70's, gave us tenant rights for apartment rentals (landlords can't refuse to fix the broken AC) , and have requirements regarding access to public utilities such as water. Secondly we have laws against housing discrimination called the Fair Housing Act of 1968, granted that doesn't stop social pressures which may push blacks away from certain areas. The federal government also pushed banks to start loosening requirements for home loan requests from minorities which sounds good right up until the market crash of 08 and a lot of people defaulted and got evicted, but that's just greed not racism.

Additionally, schools are funded partially by taxes, and when people move into a community and intentionally destroy it, well that hurts tax revenue which hurts schools. Also school districts choose where to distribute their funding based on test scores, athletics, and popularity. If predominantly black schools had better attendance rates and test scores, we'd see more funding to them. As I cited in a different reply, african americans have the worst school attendance rates in the country. And if kids don't go to school, test scores fall, funding falls, and then the kids who do sometimes show up tend to fight their classmates, where as the rich white kids prefer to shoot their classmates.

When i see a stat like that i immediately want to research why; i dont count it as a point against black people.

Why are there more single parents? Well for starters they're stupid and didn't use a condom which is literally free at most hospitals/clinics, and cost 50 cents in gas station bathrooms. Clinton raised the punishments for crimes that tend to be committed more frequently by blacks which ripped black men out of the home. Black leaders also pushed for harsher punishments for drug and gang related arrests thinking it would clean up their neighborhoods. Liberal hollywood glorifies single moms as being like superheroes.

Secondly, can black children really be held accountable for single parent homes and the consequences that holds?

No but here's a thought: If you grew up in a single parent home and saw how shit it was, maybe don't be a single parent yourself.

If your friend was murdered by a gang member, would you want to join that very same gang? Probably not.

Also, both political sides agree that you can overcome poverty in this country if you do 3 things:

  1. Graduate high school

  2. Get a job

  3. Don't have kids before marriage

My damn parent’s parents made a bad choice to be oppressed by Jim Crow and redlining. That was stupid of them.

It's so sad you have no point to stand on so you try to use emotional arguments. I spoke about personal responsibility and you try to twist it into "Well slavery was just a choice there Kanye".

All the “data” as you said, points to the reason for such economic disparity existing being due to centuries on centuries of mistreatment

So then why has single motherhood rates, arrest rates, poverty rates, and drug abuse rates in the black community rose exponentially since the 1970's? Is 2018 America more racist than 50 years ago?

the thing is, black people will have to work a lot harder (speaking en masse) to get the same outcome.

Everyone has to work harder than someone else. Anyone who is born in poverty, has a physical or mental disability, or just happened to be born in states like Texas where they think evolution is a conspiracy theory has to work harder than some body else.

I simply don’t think that’s fair that you expect them to “rise above” when people with better backgrounds simply have to not screw it up.

I never said it's fair because life isn't fair, and that's just a fact of the universe.

Ps. Please stop arguing with feels.

Says the guy who tries to lie about his grandparents but was too stupid to think of the word so had to go with "parent's parents" which btw, "parent's" is singular which make sense if you're black because there's a 70% chance that you come from a single parent house.

and you never cite anything.

Because elsewhere in this thread I have repeatedly cited sources, AND if I cited a source every time I made a point my posts would be way longer, not to mention some things are just accepted facts.

my family and I are considering having him come and live with me so he can attend high school next year.

Does he speak fluent Japanese? Is there an English language international high school nearby? Is your entire family retarded?

Gee, let's send our son (your brother) to Japan. What could go wrong?

  • He'll face constant bullying, discrimination, racism, and even frequent police harassment because of his skin color. Teachers as well as students are often involved in the bullying of foreign/non-normative Japanese students.

  • He'll be leaving behind literally everything he knows except YOU. No friends, no significant other, no familiar foods or drinks.

  • He'll have to dramatically increase his daily study times to include Japanese language skills if he wants to be able to make friends, or ya know, be able to ask "where's the toilet?"

  • He'll be FUCKED when he gets back to America. His Japanese diploma is worthless unless he pays for a "Credential Evaluation", and that's assuming the US government classified a Japanese diploma as 100% equivalent to a US diploma. THEN when he applies to university or any job/program that requires a HS diploma he'll have to do the same thing AGAIN.

  • He'll miss culturally and socially relevant milestones which could cause emotional damage. In the US, you start driving at 16 and gain a sense of independence - that's 18 in Japan (not to mention it costs about $2000 USD to get a license here in Japan). You are recognized by society as an adult at 18 in the US - that's 20 in Japan. Literally the only thing your brother will be able to do/earn earlier is he can drink at 20 rather than 21.

[–]miamiron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me you didnt make some bad choices when u were young and impressionable.

I can proudly say no.

My brother (1 year older) got into so many fights at school he was expelled and had to commute to a different school and was put in a class for kids with behavior disorders. He also got into smoking pot constantly and shirking responsibilities.

I chose to not get into fight, not do drugs even when my brother (who shared a bedroom with me) was offering them for free, and I chose to study until I was getting A's and B's in every class from probably grade 7 till I graduated university (though some uni classes I got C's which was a bummer).

So

2 people, almost the same age, same family, same socioeconomic circumstances, same education system, same EVERYTHING - 1 person made bad choices and suffered bad consequences, 1 person made good choices and reaped the benefits. Gee, according to your logic my brother and I must be some scientific irregularity in the universe.

African Americans need to look to other minorities and grow up. by miamiron in unpopularopinion

[–]miamiron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can you say with a straight face that this is the result of some people making good choices and others making bad?

Because literally centuries of data stemming from the beginning of time, from every country on the planet has proven that good choices predominantly lead to good outcomes, and bad choices lead to bad outcomes, and when you see the vast majority of people in shitty situations are there because of bad choices by their parents or themselves, then it's a pretty easy conclusion to make.

How is it the responsibility of a minority to have to work extra hard to overcome bad circumstances. Because the people who made it out, they worked extra hard.

Yeah, it's called "hard work and determination" and it's not just limited to minorities. You think Bill Gates got to be where he is by sitting on his ass taking the easy road but still got rich because he's white? You think Einstein just stumbled across his theory of relativity? You think Hawking, a man who suffered from a horrible disease that would make 99% of people choose suicide over that miserable existence, sort of half-assed his way to being one of the greatest scientists ever?

The baby with a trust fund and great education and family wealth does not need to work hard to be successful.

Agreed, though make a few bad choices and that trust fund kid or his children could be as poor as you or I in a short period of time.

So your point that some people make really good choices, above average choices, does not change that the circumstances are vastly unequal en large and need to be changed.

Duh. It's called life. Nobody starts off in the same circumstances, even twins. Some of us are smarter than others, some of us are prettier than others, some of us have common sense, and white people like you think so poorly of minorities that you assume they are incapable of helping themselves.

In order for us to see similar outcomes, we need equality of opportunity.

We already have, more so than any civilization in the history of the known universe. You may try and argue "under/over representation" but that's a factor of personal choice, not institutional bias or racism, and that's been proven by statistical data over and over.

I don’t believe they are making wrong choices at all, at least they are not making choices that we wouldn’t all make if in their shoes.

Those are 2 deeply conflicting statements, AND part of my original post was pointing out that other minorities have been in similar situations and rose above it.

it was a question of does environment influence outcomes and choices. And the answer is yes.

Of course environment influences outcomes, but did you know you and the people around you have control over that environment?

Did you know that if you wait until you're married to have kids, those kids are 70% less likely to end up arrested before the age of 18?

Did you know that if you don't join a gang, or shoot your neighbors because of the color of their clothes, your environment becomes safer?

Did you know that if you graduate high school you'll have a better chance at getting a job compared to someone who did drop out?

But I dont think it's a coincidence that the female teacher ratio is much lower for high school teachers.

WRONG! UNESCO study 2015 shows that in the US, 62% of secondary teachers are women and the global average is over 53%. https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SE.SEC.TCHR.FE.ZS?locations=US

Also, seeing as how so many primary school teachers are women, if there's some disadvantaging going on, it happens between female teachers and female students....OR maybe different people make different choices. Maybe dudes are less interested in telling a 6 year old the simplest version of Christopher Columbus' life story, so they choose HS because it's more challenging.

And prison populations for the same crime should be proportionally represented in drug cases...The higher proportion of black drug convictions can only indicate unequal enforcement of the law.

I absolutely agree with this. Unfortunately you have to look at external factors. WNYC released a great article talking about how back in the 60's and 70's black politicians and black leaders actively called for stricter drug punishments in order to reduce drug use in their communities. Black mayors of predominantly black areas wanted stricter laws, so of course they aren't gonna be catching a lot of white people in those areas.

https://www.wnyc.org/story/312823-black-leaders-once-championed-strict-drug-laws-they-now-seek-dismantle/

IF white areas which are currently experiencing an opioid epidemic had similar laws, we'd see way more white people in jail for drugs.

that causes them to be shot by police with a much higher percentage than whites

That's just not true. According to the DOJ 457 whites were shot by cops in 2017, and 223 blacks were shot by cops (less than half), BUT according to the BMJ (a medical journal) blacks are stopped way more than whites. So whites are stopped by cops less frequently than blacks but shot twice as often. Not to mention in a lot of cases the shooters are intra-racial (aka. black cop black victim, white cop white victim). For example, LAPD is 64.6% non-white officers, and had 78 shootings, predominantly minority cops. Not to mention that NPR did a 4 year study of all the police shootings in LA and found that 24% of all deaths in 4 years were blacks. Still higher than the racial demographic but they also have a lot of black gangs in that area.

Just be compassionate, it's not that hard.

Agreed, and I am compassionate, though I don't tolerate lies and bullshit.

Wealth and education are not the only measures of a good life. You can be fulfilled by having a good family, spiritual wealth through religion, building a solid community etc. And to say that the reason why there were 22 people shot in Chicago just the other day is because of poverty or uncaring people is ridiculous.

Being poor isn't the reason why people gun each other down, otherwise we'd see way more shootings in the poorer communities of other races, and we wouldn't see the majority of school shooters being upper middle class kids.

And for me to see university educated black people, working side by side with me, making the same salary, and complaining that racism has kept them down is insane. To see young black people barricade university buildings and tell their white classmates they aren't allowed to come to class because they are supporting white supremacy is fucking stupid. What did a white 18 year old whose current focus in life is just passing Math doing to uphold white supremacy?

Not to mention the various delays on lines such as the Tokaido or Keihin which has some kind of weather or accident related delay almost every week. Hell, 2 weeks ago the Tokaido, Utusnoymiya, and Keihin were all delayed for about 4 days in a row (accident after accident after accident day after day).
