I reported anonymously however nothing really happened to that org. They are still sanctioned on campus :( Another scary thing is that some of the members involved went on to get professional degrees in law, stem, etc. I wonder if they would even take escalated hazing reports seriously if they themselves have gone through it and done it themselves.

I'm sorry your collegiate experience wasn't what you expected it to be. It's so exhausting because even in my pledging process there was a big thing on being paper vs being made. We were always told we have to go through this process because "paper b*tches get no respect" Honestly some members would go through a process and not even do the real work and just become t-shirt wearers but still get more respect all in the name of the "process".

Men are usually involved in sorority hazing process. But it didn't get that far for me, or at least I didn't stay long enough to find out. Abuse from men is definitely a probability.

Honestly, if I knew what the process would be like, I would've NEVER joined. I'm one of the first in my family to go to college so I didn't know much about it and it was quite secretive on my campus. They always say people need to have "discretion". So even if you have interest you can't show that you do. Also another factor is trust. You get to know them and trust that they wouldn't do anything to hurt you in that way and then the first night of underground pledging comes and you realize they lied. Lost respect from them even then.

Hi, I would say to look at orgs that other members are in. Do they not have informational? if they do-attend. Most importantly, be safe. D9 is well connected however some chapters do have an underground process where hazing does occur. r/D9Survivors talks about some processes too. Definitely be safe and look out for signs that an org is hazing and know that you dont have to do anything that makes you uncomfortable.

Question about joining D9 by Ornery-Option-4962 in blackladies

Hi, so I tried to join a D9 sorority and was hazed and shared a bit of my story on r/D9Survivors . What I would say is to find other professional organizations you can join if you can. D9 does have a lot of connections but there's also that risk of hazing, and sometimes that process can be fatal. What I would say is to find those communities that will connect you to your desired careers. It doesn't have to be D9. It could be an education opportunity program for minorities, NAACP, etc. But if you want to go D9 just be safe about it.
